"Weird: The Al Yankovic Story" is, for the nerds keeping track, the third partially accurate satirical biopic of the life of "Weird Al" Yankovic. The first came in 1985 with the release of the VHS special "The Compleat Al," which was released to coincide with his third studio album "Dare to be Stupid." In the early 1980s, Yankovic had become a massive comedy star on the then-nascent MTV, and several of the Al TV segments were included in that biopic alongside real-life home movie footage of Yankovic as a child. Nick and Mary Yankovic, Al's actual parents, appear throughout. The re-enactments of, say, Al auditioning his band or testing out Al merchandise, are comedically false.
The second satirical biopic was a famous 2010 Funny or Die short film in the form of a fake movie trailer, which presented the life of Yankovic as if it were a more conventional Hollywood rock star biopic.

The official trailer for The Roku Channel’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story finds Weird Al (played with total commitment by Daniel Radcliffe) attempting to follow his dream of taking existing songs and changing their words. We’re also treated to Evan Rachel Wood channeling Madonna and suggesting Weird Al parody her “Like a Virgin” – which she admits she’s definitely not.
The cast also includes Abbott Elementary creator/star Quinta Brunson as Oprah Winfrey. Rainn Wilson (The Office) plays Dr. Demento, Julianne Nicholson (Mare of Easttown) is Mary Yankovic, Toby Huss (Dickinson) is Nick Yankovic, and Spencer Treat Clark (Animal Kingdom) is Steve Jay.
Weird Al co-wrote the film with Eric Appel, and Appel is directing. Weird is produced by Funny Or Die and Tango.

The Roku Channel released a first look image of Evan Rachel Wood (“Westworld”) as Madonna in “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.”
The upcoming biopic will dive into all aspects of the legendary comedian and recording artist’s life and career — including his rise to fame with early hits like “Eat It” and “Like a Surgeon,” which he famously parodied from Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” (with permission from the Queen of Pop).
In addition to the first look of Wood as Madonna, Roku also announced multiple additions to the “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” cast on Wednesday. Rainn Wilson (“The Office”) portrays radio broadcaster Dr. Demento, Julianne Nicholson (“Mare of Easttown”) plays Weird Al’s mother Mary Yankovic and Toby Huss (“Halt and Catch Fire”) is Weird Al’s father Nick Yankovic.
The Roku Original Film, which began production in Los Angeles last month, stars Daniel Radcliffe as Weird Al.

Music funnyman Weird Al Yankovic has pledged to continue touring after the tragic death of his parents, because he's hoping his wacky tunes will help him recover from the double loss. Nick Yankovic and Mary Yankovic, who were both in their 80s, were discovered dead of carbon monoxide poisoning in their San Diego, California, home on Friday. Paramedics found a wood fire had been burning in the fireplace, the house was full of smoke and the flue was closed. But devastated Yankovic is eager to resume his Poodle Hat tour, because he deems it the perfect way to overcome the tragedy. He says, "I briefly considered canceling some shows, but I ultimately decided that it would be better for me personally to continue working. Plus, I've heard from so many people over the years that my music has cheered them up in times of tragedy... well, I thought maybe my music would help me too. So far, it has."...
