There has been cautious optimism about the upcoming Terminator trilogy since it was announced that Christian Bale would play John Connor.
The cast has filled out rather nicely since then - funny how that works - although I still question whether McG is the right director. Then again, I said the same thing about Jonathon Mostow for T3, and that turned out better than I expected.
And now there's news that a new, more-than-reputable actor will join the ensemble that already includes Anton Yelchin, Sam Worthington, Moon Bloodgood, Common, and Bryce Dallas Howard. WENN is reporting that Helena Bonham Carter "has been offered a small but pivotal role" in the film.
Last year, Bonham Carter received a Golden Globe nomination for Sweeney Todd, and she already has an Oscar nomination for The Wings of the Dove back in 1997. She also has a good gauge for blockbusters and culturally relevant films,

It was announced today that principal photography has officially begun in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Warner Bros. Pictures' "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins", which is being directed by McG. In the press release we learned of some new casting, alongside Christian Bale as John Connor. The film also stars Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes, and Jadagrace as Star. Although there's nothing there just yet, the official website has been launched. In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row.

While some websites are claiming that production has shut down, new casting breaks still have been hitting the web (I guess we know which story is true). Moon Bloodgood (pictured inside) is in final negotiations for the female lead in McG's Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, which principal photography is set to begin May 5. She will play a no-nonsense and battle-hardened member of the resistance. Bloodgood will star alongside Christian Bale, Sam Worthington and Anton Yelchin in the fourth installment of the sci-fi series, which Warner Bros. will release May 22, 2009.
