Harrison Ford has adventured around the world as Indiana Jones, but the film star has only explored uncharted territory — episodic television — last year, with the premiere of “Yellowstone” prequel “1923” on Paramount+ in December. But Ford already has a new TV series, “Shrinking,” coming out a month later, and a little over a week before the premiere of the series, the full trailer has been released by Apple TV+ out of its Television Critics Association winter press tour conference.
“Shrinking” stars Jason Segel as Jimmy, a therapist working at a cognitive behavioral center reeling from the death of his beloved wife and struggling to be there for his patients. When he snaps at a patient (played by “SNL” cast member Heidi Gardner) that she needs to leave her emotionally abusive husband, to positive results, Jimmy decides that the best way he can help others is by telling them exactly what he thinks.

"So how does that make you feel?" This question has been uttered by just about every incarnation of a therapist on screen, and the new series "Shrinking" is no different. Jason Segel stars as Jimmy Laird, a grieving therapist who realizes he's running on auto-pilot with his patients and trying to numb himself after the loss of his wife instead of actually dealing with his problems. Realizing he needs to make a massive change, Jimmy decides to throw the ethical rulebook out the window and tell his clients exactly what he thinks, much to the chagrin of fellow psychiatrist, Dr. Paul Rhodes (Harrison Ford). Rather than wait to hear how a patient "feels" about a situation, he's dishing out advice that will shake up their lives ... and his own.

It took a long time for Harrison Ford to make his way to a major TV role, and in a preview for the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Shrinking,” he doesn’t look too happy about it. In the minute-long clip, featuring the upcoming comedy’s cast, a trampoline, and no dialogue, Ford shoots a disappointed scowl at his co-star Jason Segel before walking off.
It’s a perfectly nonplussed reaction from the Star Wars and Indiana Jones legend, setting up an intriguing new series from the creators of “Ted Lasso.” In addition to the trampoline clip and a few first look images (all below), the streamer also unveiled a release date of January 27. The preview shows Segel and the series’ supporting cast bouncing on a trampoline in between the tag line: “Sometimes you have to break down to have a breakthrough.”

Apple TV+ is offering a first look at Shrinking, the new 10-episode comedy starring Harrison Ford and Jason Segel.
Shrinking follows a grieving therapist (Segel) who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives … including his own. It’s from Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence, Ted Lasso star and writer Brett Goldstein and Segel.
Shrinking will premiere globally with the first two episodes on Friday, January 27, on Apple TV+, followed by one new episode every Friday. In addition to Segel and Ford, Shrinking stars Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie, and Lukita Maxwell.
The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, where Lawrence is under an overall deal, and Lawrence’s Doozer Productions. Lawrence, Segel, Goldstein, Neil Goldman, James Ponsoldt, Randall Winston, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer serve as executive producers.

First, NBC canceled Scrubs after seven seasons, then ABC picked it up before scrapping it again after season 9. By the time the ax finally fell on the hospital sitcom in 2010, creator Bill Lawrence had to agree that the show had come to a fair end. “We filmed so many episodes that I feel like it had played its full course,” says Lawrence, who tells EW that he currently has no plans to pursue a movie continuation of the series, despite the wishes of some fans. “You could argue Veronica Mars got cut short in its lifespan, but for us, I...

Cougar Town Season 4, Episode 13 ‘The Criminal Kind’
Directed by Randall Winston
Written by Sean Lavery
Airs Tuesday nights at 10pm Et on TBS
In theory, The Breakfast Club would be a wonderful homage on a television show, especially a comedy, where the idea of family is imprinted in the genre’s DNA. At its heart, The Breakfast Club is about disgruntled teenage stereotypes uniting to rebel against said stereotypes, providing them with important moments of realization and self-recognition. But in practice (at least in the way Cougar Town employed it), it just feels empty, relying on the easy ‘wink, wink’ homage moments and joke-filled voice overs that are neither revealing nor humorous in any way.
‘The Criminal Kind’ just didn’t have compelling material for its main characters, and the Breakfast Club homages feel more like a necessary distraction than an creative use of meta-fiction. Of course, the show goes...

Congressman Thomas Bell (William Katt, "Top of the Hill," CBS, 1989): Taking over his ill father's seat in Washington, D.C., Bell was an idealist who often ran up against those much more skilled at the political game.
Representative Jack Tanner (Michael Murphy, "Tanner '88," HBO, 1988): The Michigan politician pursued the Democratic presidential nomination.
Pics: Actors who played politicians
Senator William Powers (John Forsythe, "The Powers That Be," NBC, 1992-93): He wasn't a paragon of personal ethics, but professionally, Powers did his best for constituents.
Mayor Randall Winston (Barry Bostwick, "Spin City," ABC, 1996-2002): He came across as a fop at times, but New York's mayor always had his city's best interests at heart.
President Josiah Bartlet (Martin Sheen, "The West Wing," NBC, 1999-2006): Originally designed to stay in the background of the series, Bartlet was the ideal of what many want a president to be.

The season finale of "Cougar Town" would work pretty well as a series finale -- but fortunately for fans of the show, it's not.
Tuesday's (May 29) one-hour finale is the last we'll see of the series on ABC, but with a move to TBS next year, it's not the end for Jules (Courteney Cox), Grayson (Josh Hopkins) and the rest of the cul-de-sac crew. The two episodes, "My Life" and "Your World," air at 8 p.m. Et, but while you get your wine to the proper temperature, here are a few things to watch for:
It's "Groundhog Day." Now that Jules and Grayson have moved in, he's a little put out by the fact that their house is always full of people (but, honestly, did he expect something different?). "My life is 'Groundhog Day,'" he laments after seeing Ellie (Christa Miller) and Laurie (Busy Philipps) in the kitchen for the millionth time.

Pasadena -- It's 9 p.m., and Bill Lawrence turns to me and asks, "Should we keep the tab running another half hour?" I look around at a hotel bar full of reporters, "Cougar Town" actors and "Cougar Town" writers," all of them having a good time and talking about how the show they love is in limbo, and I say, "Sure." Lawrence nods to his longtime producing partner Randall Winston, the man who has kept the trains running ontime on all his shows going back to "Spin City," and tells him to keep the tab going. Lots more to talk about,...

(S01E15) If you want to see evidence of how much a show can change in its first season, look no further than this week's guest star, Barry Bostwick.
He's been among the Bill Lawrence Players for almost fifteen years now, since he was cast as Mayor Randall Winston on 'Spin City.' As Lawrence has said, that show so completely changed focus during its first season, from a romantic comedy to a workplace/government comedy, that the part of one of its stars, Carla Gugino, was cut halfway through that year.
Last night's episode really brought home the fact that in quick order 'Cougar Town' has become much more than what the show was supposed to be about when it debuted. The world surrounding Jules Cobb has now expanded to the point where we see where Andy works, we know Laurie's last name (Keller? Hope she's not related.

Barry Bostwick is Laurie's boyfriend's dad.
Yes, that's right, Laurie (Busy Philipps) has got a boyfriend, people.
And no, it's not Grayson (Josh Hopkins).
Sure, they hooked up this week. But there will be no mad rush into a committed, romantic relationship for those two.
In fact, I'm told there will be much energy spent trying to hide the hook up from Jules (Courteney Cox). Also, we haven't seen the last of Smith (Ryan Devlin).
Smith is the "bf" I speak of and he will be back from law school for Valentine's Day, along with Barry Bostwick whom, sources say, has been cast as his pops.
Bostwick worked with "Cougar Town" creator Bill Lawrence on "Spin City," playing Mayor Randall Winston from 1996 to 2002.
In 2003, he did a guest spot on Lawrence's "Scrubs" as well.
Update: ABC confirms that Bostwick will play Smith's father in "Cougar Town"'s Feb. 10 episode.

Michael J. Fox and Producer/Writer Gary David Goldberg of Family Ties fame, struck comedy gold once again in 1996 when ABC aired the first season of Spin City. The show, one of the last great three-camera sitcoms, centers on Fox’s Deputy Mayor Mike Flaherty, basically an all-grown-up version of Alex Keaton, as he plays puppeteer in the office of New York City’s Mayor Randall Winston. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Fox in anything, but he’s relentless when it comes to physical comedy and perfect timing, nailing every scene he’s in and carrying the show.

Christine Baranski and Barry Bostwick have been tapped to co-star in Fox's midseason comedy pilot Spellbound. Spellbound, from Warner Bros. TV, centers on a modern-day male witch (Dave Annable) who falls in love with a mortal woman (Maggie Lawson). Baranski and Bostwick will play the male witch's parents, also witches. Baranski, an Emmy winner for her role on CBS' sitcom Cybill, most recently starred on NBC's comedy Happy Family. She is repped by UTA and Viking Entertainment's Lisa Loosemore. Bostwick is best known for his role as the gaffe-prone Mayor Randall Winston on ABC's long-running comedy Spin City. He is repped by Paradigm and Vanguard Management's David Guc.
