Michael Mann has all-but-disowned The Keep. But why? And how has the fanbase kept it going?
Every auteur has a black sheep in their filmography. Something which doesn’t gel with their established style, and was rejected by critics and fans upon release. On this front Spielberg has 1941, Oliver Stone has The Hand, Brian De Palma has Wiseguys and so on.

Michael Mann has the crown jewel of them all. He's a director best known for his precise, beautifully shot thrillers like Heat, Manhunter or The Insider. So how a director famed for his commitment to realism and methodical research ended up crafting a gothic horror movie set during World War II is anyone’s guess.

Cheers, one of the greatest sitcoms of all time – if not the greatest – ended its 10-plus-year-run on May 20, 1993.
"It was on the air for 11 seasons and 270 episodes, and it was good for nearly all of that run," Todd VanDerWerff writes at The Av Club. In honor of that run, we'd like to spend just over two minutes of your day re-living the last time Sam "Mayday" Malone closed the bar.
The show's final episode, "One for the Road," is the second-highest-rated series finale of all time, after M*A*S*H – a 30-second ad spot during the finale reportedly cost $650,000.

Cross-overs have been a staple of the comic book business since before Superman met Bugs Bunny. For the publishers, the crossover is an easy way to sell books. For fans, it’s either a dream come true or an over hyped nightmare of biblical proportions. When a crossover works, it benefits the consumer to no end. Idw has had their fair share of success with their recent crossover series. From the over-top throwback Transformers Vs. GI Joe to the recently announced X-Files and Millennium, Idw is giving just what the fans want. This week, the company mashes together two of their more celebrated, and culturally loved properties, with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters #1.

One of the biggest and most talked about events that took place at San Diego Comic-Con is when Zack Snyder showed off the first footage from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The crowd went wild. The movie definitely looks cool, but who knows how the story is going to turn out though?
While we wait to see more stuff from the film, artist Charles Paul Wilson III created this amusing fan art that reimagines Batman and Superman in his plush artistic style.
Thanks to XombieDirge for the tip!

It's not clear yet what form the Oscars' tribute to the James Bond franchise will take. On Friday, the Academy announced it had booked Shirley Bassey for her first-ever Oscar show appearance, so at the very least, we're likely get to hear her belt out one or more of the three Bond movie theme songs she recorded ("Moonraker," "Diamonds Are Forever" and of course, "Goldfinger"). We also know Adele will be on hand to sing her currently nominated theme to "Skyfall." Beyond that, Oscar host Seth MacFarlane has made a promo clip where he plays a bartender who makes fun of James Bond (Pierce Brosnan, in an archival clip) for the distinctive way he orders his martini. Otherwise, there are few clues as to what shape the tribute will take, though there is a rumor that all six men who've played 007 -- Daniel Craig, Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore, George Lazenby...

Many people will be surprised when they realise that Snow Patrol have been around since 1994 (although they were known previously as Shrug and Polar Bear, and changed their name to Snow Patrol in 1997) and have released six studio recordings. Some people don’t see past their breakthrough album, Final Straw (2003), and might think that the band has had it easy. But they couldn’t be further away from the truth.
The band was formed at the University of Dundee by the ever-present Gary Lightbody and previous members, Michael Morrison and Mark McClelland. They were then known as the Shrug, and released an Ep titled the ‘Yoghurt vs Yoghurt Debate’ after playing gigs at the university and surrounding pubs. The Ep was a stirring success and the band (who were now called Snow Patrol after a quick name-change from Polar Bear) signed to independent label Jeepster Records in 1997. It was on...

The actor may have landed the role of Whale Wars star Captain Paul Wilson, who wages dangerous ocean battles against illegal whaling vessels. The film has been in development for quite some time at Warner Bros. Ocean Warrior, an action-thriller, is being scripted by Keith Ross Leckie and Julie Allan. It is based on Capt. Paul Wilson, who started out with Greenpeace and then formed the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society which aggressively fights illegal fishing activities. In the Planet Ocean Alliance forum Wilson talks about the casting history as to who would play him. At this point, McGregor has not been officially announced for the role and, and upon contacting Warner Bros for confirmation, the studio offered no comment on the supposed casting. Since the film has languished for...

In 1983 director Michael Mann, best known for directing films such as Last of the Mohicans, Heat, The Insider, and Public Enemies, made a supernatural World War II film called The Keep. The movie involved Nazis battling it out with a ancient Romanian wizard. The movie starred Sir Ian McKellen and Gabriel Byrne, but the film was so bad that it never got a DVD release.
The Keep is based on a novel by F.Paul Wilson, and it follows a group of Nazis who roll into the Carpathian Mountains in World War II. They discover a strange temple in a small village. The Germans unwittingly unleash a centuries-old sorcerer, who begins blowing up Nazis à la the last scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark. The evil Major Kaempffer (Byrne) brings in Jewish medievalist Dr. Theodore Cuza (McKellen) to discover the monster's weakness, a plan that is flawed from the get-go.

A Gathering Of Crows by Brian Keene
Brinkley Springs is a quiet little town. Some say the town is dying. They don’t know how right they are. Five mysterious figures are about to pay a little visit to Brinkley Springs. They have existed for centuries, emerging from the shadows only to destroy, to kill. To feed. They bring with them terror and carnage, and leave death and blood in their wake. As the night wears on, Brinkley Springs will be quiet no longer. Screams will break the silence. But when the sun rises again, will there be anyone left to hear?
Brian continues his long list of novels published by Dorchester Publishing with his latest book A Gathering Of Crows. And Brian Keene fans you will not be disappointed.
