Comic Bricks, a series of comic book covers recreated in Lego, was on display at Designer Con in Los Angeles this past weekend. Part of the GeekTyrant team was there at Designer Con, and say that the series was a definite highlight of the convention. Some high quality photos of the Lego art pieces have made their way online, and they are all really impressive. I’m especially blown away by the interpretations that relied less on Minifigures and veered closer to the flat, 2D backgrounds and elements of those classic original covers. Some of them went the extra mile by adding titles, price tags, issue numbers, and other fun details. Taking something inherently three-dimensional to recreate intricate two-dimensional art is quite a tall task, and the artists didn’t disappoint.

Lucky McKee, who previously gave us May and The Woman, is back with All Cheerleaders Die, a film that will see him reunite with The Woman's production outfit Moderncine. The title alone sounds up McKee's alley.
Ah, but there's more. McKee is going to direct with Chris Sivertson, the man behind The Lost, which makes this film even more interesting.
The film is produced by Andrew van den Houten, Robert Tonino and stars Caitlin Stasey, Sianoa Smit-McPhee, and introduces Tom Williamson.

When I was a kid, I would make Star Trek phasers out of 5-6 blocks of Lego max. And I wasn't creative enough to make a communicator out of the blocks so I would just flip open my wallet as a communicator (I still do sometimes). When my brother bought an actual Star Trek Phaser toy, my minimalist phasers became obsolete. That wouldn't have been the case if I could stack the Lego bricks like Tommy Williamson, who has beautifully built Lego versions of the Phaser Type-ii, Communicator, and Tricorder from the original Star Trek series. The Tricorder even opens up and has working lights. Check out the vid for proof.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail is one of the first comedies I remember watching on VHS. The use of coconuts instead of horses cracks me up every time. Here are some awesome Lego characters from the film created by Tom Williamson for Pythonscape at BrickCon 2011.
