- Discovered by chance in 1919 by famed Broadway actress Marjorie Rambeau who came to the Wilkes Theater in Salt Lake City with a touring company of "The Eyes of Youth." It seems she replaced a young actor with the inexperienced Stanton when she discovered he could cry on cue. He joined the Wilkes Theater stock company as a result.
- The family relocated from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles on Stanton's natural acting talent and the promise of a film career. Sister Esther Williams, the youngest of five, was born in Inglewood, a suburb of L.A.
