Politicians, commentators and celebrities alike are reacting with shock and outrage over President Trump‘s sudden firing of FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday evening.
“This is an investigator investigating the White House who was just fired by the White House. This doesn’t happen in the United States”— except in Richard Nixon’s White House during Watergate, said a visibly exasperated CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin.
Former Clinton campaign press secretary Brian Fallon called into CNN to join the chorus of analysts reminding Americans that Comey was in the middle of investigating Trump for collusion with Russia.

With Election Day looming just eight days away, the FBI is facing intense pressure to resolve its renewed probe into Hillary Clinton‘s emails before Americans vote for their next president.
It remains unclear whether federal agents will be able to meet that deadline, but a federal law enforcement official told The New York Times “the process has begun.”
Federal agents have obtained a warrant to begin reviewing the reported 650,000 emails that were discovered on a laptop used by top Clinton aide Huma Abedin and belonging to her estranged husband, ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner.

It's an extremely tough time for Serena Williams: the tennis player's dog of 16 years, Jackie Baila Pete Williams, passed away on Tuesday. Serena took to Instagram to share the sad news, along with a series of cute photos of Jackie. Her touching message is as follows: Today really is hard for me. My special friend in which I got at 17 (2 weeks before I won my very first Grand Slam) left me today. She was 16 years young and up until a few days ago was still sprinting. Her poor body gave out this morning and she had a way of telling me it was time for me to be brave and let her go. With my dad by my side we were able to say a loving goodbye. She was with me from 1999 until today and I miss her so much. I got out of the shower this afternoon and...

Serena Williams Mourns the Death of Her Dog Jackie: "Thank You For the Kindness and Joy You Brought"
Serena Williams is pals with plenty of famous athletes and celebrities, but her closest friend of all, perhaps, has been the one with four legs who achieved a different kind of success: Her beloved dog, Jackie. Sadly, the pampered pooch passed away Tuesday at the age of 16. Serena, 34, posted a heartfelt Instagram tribute to "My special friend"—the one she she got at age 17 ("2 weeks before I won my first Grand Slam") who stayed by her side up until the very end. Jackie, whose full name was Jackie Baila Pete Williams, "was still sprinting" up until "a few days ago," Serena wrote. But the adorable pup's "poor body gave out this morning," she noted, and Jackie "had...

Peter Williams: Common & Proper Nouns: The N-Word Novella Gallery, NYC Through April 5, 2015
And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? It is hard for thee to kick against the pricks." - Acts 26:14 (King James Version)
"We have art in order not to die from the truth." - Nietzsche
The paintings of Peter Williams have, for a long time, addressed the nature of the body -- specifically addressing how one might inhabit such a fragile space in such an arbitrary world. Naturalistic figures inhabited landscapes populated with cartoon imagery, combinations rendered plausible through Williams’s skilled, and constantly striving, paint handling. With this background in mind, the paintings, all untitled, and all from 2015, come as something of a jolt -- or, to paraphrase Bruce Nauman, a baseball bat to the back of the head.

After satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo's Paris office was stormed by three gunmen who killed 12 people and escaped in what is being called a terrorist attack, the rush to disseminate information about the manhunt has led to some inaccuracies and false reporting on the part of NBC's Pete Williams. After first reporting that one of the three suspects was dead, Williams was forced to walk that story back after his counterterrorism sources walked back their original claims.

NBC News reported that one of the Charlie Hebdo terror suspects was killed and two others arrested on Wednesday evening, citing two senior U.S. counterterrorism officials. However, French news outlets were not confiming this report and NBC appeared to backtrack shortly thereafter.

When it came to informing the public about developments in the Boston Marathon bombing investigation, yesterday wasn't a great day for cable news (save for MSNBC, which had a more cautious Pete Williams reporting on the story). CNN in particular has seen the brunt of the criticism (that Obamacare verdict didn't help), with Jon Stewart deeming the network the "human centipede of news." One might think that after the truly egregious errors made in coverage of the Newtown tragedy in December, major news outlets would reevaluate their policies about being first vs. being accurate. But here we are with another tragedy, and another flub by a major network.
On Wednesday, CNN reported that an arrest had been made in the Boston bombing case, and that a "dark-skinned male" seen walking away from the scene in video footage from a Lord & Taylor store was the suspect. According to the network, a "source" in federal law enforcement source told CNN's Fran Townsend that someone was arrested.
It wasn't just CNN. Fox News "confirmed" that an arrest had been made. The Associated Press said that a "subject was in custody."
NBC's Pete Williams insisted that no arrest had been made, but there were individuals of interest identified by the FBI. Later, as more news outlets reported...

Peter Williams Foxy Production Through March 23, 2013 "Art should not have to be a certain way." -- Willem de Kooning
For Peter Williams's first solo exhibition at Foxy Production, he is showing work from two distinct but interconnected bodies of work:large figurative paintings depict fanciful, fractured narratives that mix cultural and personal histories with fields of pattern and color; and a set of smaller paintings that distil and intensify visual moments from the larger works, magnifying and expanding them. Williams's paintings tell entropic tales, with figures caught in moments that show their fragility -- scenes of everyday life, both seen and imagined.
Williams’s painting process begins with drawing. He focuses first on shape and then color to create depth and volume in seemingly flat spaces. Contrasting with the fields of the background, the figures he paints engage in surreal, humorous, and disturbing relationships. His open-ended visual stories combine a...

It appears that numerous television and online news outlets have identified the wrong man as the shooter in the Newtown, Ct Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that took place Friday morning.
Though Fox News, ABC News, Piers Morgan, Pete Williams, and other outlets initially named 24-year-old Ryan Lanza as the shooter, the Associated Press is now confirming that the actual shooter, who is deceased inside the school, is 20-year-old Adam Lanza. Some sources claim that Adam was carrying his brother's ID at the time of his death.
A Facebook photo uploaded by a Ryan Lanza from Newtown, Ct, with his current home listed as Hoboken, NJ, had over 14,000 shares and comments after Slate and other outlets posted links to the profile. Angry commenters called him a "monster," a "sociopath," and worse.

Ogilvy Sydney has launched a campaign for Gio to promote its platinum car insurance.
The campaign marks the first work for the insurance brand by Ogilvy, which won the business after a competitive pitch. Leo Burnett Sydney handled the Suncorp brand’s most recent advertising.
The ad was directed by Paul Goldman.
“The brief was simply to raise awareness of Gio’s unique Platinum Car Insurance product that offers better protection for new cars,” said Leigh Bignell, executive business director, Ogilvy & Mather Sydney.
“The creative idea evolved from Gio’s knowledge that Australians have a deep love for their cars. Cars are quite honestly considered to be a part of the family, and if damaged owners experience a great sense of loss.
“Ogilvy turned that emotional connection into a compelling message across all executions including TV, press, outdoor, radio and digital,” he said.

Another shooting has the Blacksburg, Va., Virginia Tech campus on lockdown. A police officer was shot on Thursday (Dec. 8) morning, reports MSNBC, and authorities warned students and residents to seek shelter while the armed suspect is still at large.
A possible second victim was also found dead in a campus parking lot, reports local news station Wdbj.
"This was a traffic stop on campus," reported MSNBC's Pete Williams. "It was not someone walking around firing shots."
"We don't know if the suspect fled or the extent of the injuries to the suspect or to the officer," he added.
A campus alert described the shooter as a white male wearing gray sweat pants, a gray hat with a neon green brim and a maroon hoodie. He was also carrying a backpack. He was last seen approaching the university's main gym facility.

One of the problematic legacies of Modernism was its emphasis on originality, youth, and the myth of the artist who sprang sui generis into a recognizable, signature style. There were rare exceptions, such as Picasso and Matisse, who remained in the canon and were allowed to mature and develop their works past their youthful experiments and achieve a late body of work. Admittedly, the fact that they lived to be ninety sort of bludgeoned the historians and critics into pretty much accepting whatever they did just because they refused to die. On the other hand, de Kooning lived just as long, and his constant morphing of styles proved to be equally as protean but not as accepted, and his later painting was more or less dismissed until well after his death. What gets overlooked in...

John Barrowman is currently kicking up dirt on "Desperate Housewives" as Patrick Logan, the man Angie (Drea de Matteo) has been running from for close to two decades.
You probably best know him, though, as Captain Jack Harkness from "Doctor Who" and the "Torchwood" series on BBC America. We haven't checked our stats, but we think he's the most popular American export we have (next to denim). Ok, so he's Scottish, but he pretty much grew up in the U.S.!
Of course, there's the rumors that he'll assume the lead in the American version of "Torchwood" Fox is planning. And, he has made it pretty clear he'd like to be on another Fox series, "Glee."
But while we wait for those must-see gems to come to fruition, we decided to put together some others to hold us over. Judging from the dozens of videos we've watched, if Barrowman were Twitter,...

In recent weeks, "Desperate Housewives" has made some headline grabbing guest castings, including Heidi Klum, Paulina Porizkova, and Julie Benz. For us, though, the most exciting casting news was the show's announcement that they nabbed John Barrowman.
As Jack Harkness, BBC America viewers are well-acquainted with the man behind the sci-fi shows "Doctor Who" and "Torchwood." We're surprised (and delighted) that our readers also remembered him as the ruthless villain Peter Williams on the short-lived NBC show, "Titans." In our opinion, Barrowman is a force of nature.
So, when Zap2it spoke to executive producer Bob Daily, we couldn't help but ask about the impending Angie/Gaby showdown and the damage Barrowman will create when he hits The Lane.
Warning: Spoilers!
Angie has a hard time keeping it together. In the last episode Gabrielle and Carlos overheard the Bolens arguing and now they know something is going on. Where is that going to lead?...

Q: One of my friends has recently turned me on to country music (I am not sure whether to thank him yet or not). Are there any who are out, or who are known to have a positive relationship with the Lgbt community? -- Megan, Canton, Ohio
A: No out mainstream acts, but some country acts have been open, vocal supporters of us – most notably, Dolly Parton, The Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill and her husband Tim McGraw, and even Marie Osmond (who, as we all know, is both “a little bit country” and the mother of a lesbian). And, of course, most of the cool alt-country acts that I personally adore are on record as supporting us: Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Roseanne Cash, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Emmylou Harris, etc.
But can I just say?...
