Kraven the Hunter is seeking new hunting grounds, with the Aaron Taylor-Johnson starrer taking a release date just vacated by The Karate Kid.
On Friday evening, Sony moved the villain-centric Kraven the Hunter to the prime winter spot of Dec. 13, 2024 (back from Aug. 30, 2024). Kraven steps into a date that was occupied by fellow Sony pic The Karate Kid, a crossover event movie starring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan. Karate Kid now moves to May 30, 2025.
The move comes after the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai, the Netflix spinoff starring Machio as his original Karate Kid movie character Daniel Larusso, was delayed due to last year’s actors strike. Sony pushed the new Karate Kid to allow it to follow Cobra Kai‘s final season, with the summer date also seen as friendly for the all-ages audience its intended for. Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster Twilight franchise is heading to the small screen, and here are the details.
There was a time in the early 2010s when Twilight was just about the biggest film franchise around.
It comprises five films – 2008’s Twilight, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, 2009’s New Moon, directed by Chris Weitz, 2010’s Eclipse, directed by David Slade, and the two part finale Breaking Dawn, directed by Bill Condon and released in 2011 and 2012. Their success was such that two parody films were also released in quick succession, the much maligned Vampire’s Suck and Breaking Wind.
The films followed Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan as she becomes romantically involved with vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, and werewolf Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner. Which all leads to a battle with vampire coven The Volturi.
Adapted by future Jessica Jones creator Melissa Rosenberg, the large ensemble cast also included Billy Burke,...

Scroll below for all the details!
Mr & Mrs Smith was a 2005 American action comedy directed by Doug Liman. It starred Brangelina as a bored upper-middle-class couple who eventually learn that they’re assassins of competing agencies and have been assigned to kill each other. "I've never given much thought to how I would die, but dying in the place of someone I love seems like a good way to go." Now that's how you start a franchise!
Since 2008, the "Twilight" films have been a cultural mainstay for better and for worse. A film so beloved that cosmetics companies are selling out of "Twilight"-inspired collections in under 10 minutes 15 years later, and so hated that it inspired the $20 million studio-produced parody film "Vampires Suck." Few multi-billion dollar franchises are quite this polarizing, and even fewer have had as powerful of a cultural reclamation years later. Love them or hate them, the "Twilight" films are one of the most important products of the late 2000s and 2010s, and no amount of whining about vampires sparkling or commenting "still a better love story than 'Twilight'" is going to change that.

Director Gareth Edwards (Rogue One, Godzilla) returned to theaters back in September with The Creator, and the sci-fi action thriller is now headed home to Hulu this month.
The Creator will be streaming exclusively on Hulu beginning December 20. If you’d rather not wait, the film is currently available for VOD rental beginning at just $5.99.
At the worldwide box office, The Creator ended its run with $104 million, which would’ve been a win for an original genre movie if not for the $80 million price tag. An $80 million production budget for a movie on this scale is relatively cheap, it’s important to note, but the film needed to make quite a bit more money in theaters to be considered a box office success.
The film stars John David Washington (Tenet), Gemma Chan (Eternals), Ken Watanabe (Inception), Sturgill Simpson (Dog), newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles and Academy Award® winner Allison Janney (I,...

There’s a scene in 20th Century Studios’ The Creator during which AIs wreak havoc on Los Angeles as a TV journalist warns that they are after jobs. But that’s not what director Gareth Edwards, who co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Weitz, actually believes. “I don’t think AI wants our jobs at all,” Edwards says in a new episode of The Hollywood Reporter‘s Behind the Screen podcast.
Edwards recalls that Weitz may have written that line around 2019, long before AI became a pivotal topic in Hollywood and a central issue in the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. “ChatGPT seems to not want anything,” the director says of artificial intelligence today. “But it is an amazing tool. A director uniquely skilled at capturing scale and creating lived-in worlds, Gareth Edwards has infused new visual energy into such iconic franchises as Godzilla and Star Wars. With The Creator, he tops himself in terms of world-building and generating a sense of awe.
The sci-fi epic begins in 2065, shortly after a prologue explains that artificial intelligence has advanced to the point that it’s been integrated into nearly every facet of human existence. This has largely been a boon to humanity, as they take over the jobs no one wants to do, with a competence that exceeds human intellect. It proves to have its problems, however, when the AI denotes a nuclear bomb in Los Angeles, prompting a war between the United States, which is seeking to wipe out all AI, and the country of New Asia, which protects and harbors them.

John David Washington is Joshua, an elite soldier who has dropped out of a war against Artificial Intelligence, which in 2065 has progressed to a sentient state that had launched a nuclear bomb onto Los Angeles. In retaliation, the U.S. has built a super weapon named Nomad that seeks to destroy all AI. Joshua meanwhile has fallen in love with Maya (Gemma Chan), but he is recruited to rejoin the fight through Col. Howell (Allison Janney) when an unexpected tragedy occurs. And when Joshua eventually infiltrates the NImrata, or AI Creator, he encounters a six year old girl (Madeleine Yuna Voyles) who could be the key to ending the war.

In the sci-fi action extravaganza The Creator, a mash-up of hero-quest movies from Star Wars to Blade Runner, the hero played by John David Washington battles a host of daunting foes and powerful weapons to save a little girl. Only she isn’t a little girl – but a human-like AI android that was built with a massive power, to neutralize any weapon humans might possess in a AI-versus-human war. Which means the human hero in this big, splashy special effects movie is helping an AI robot that looks like a child defeat humankind. Yet audiences cheer at the end of this sci-fi action adventure, seemingly unconscious of what they are cheering. What?

It’s his first feature film since 2016’s “Rogue One” and his fourth sci-fi film in a row, following 2010’s “Monsters,” and 2014’s “Godzilla.”
While he previously described “Godzilla” as “a disaster movie meets science fiction” and “Rogue One” as a “war movie meets science fiction,” Edwards tells TheWrap that “The Creator” is really a “father-child love story.”
Edwards also served as a writer along with Chris Weitz for the original film. Here’s how to watch “The Creator.”

“The Creator” had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on Sept. 26.

"Whose side are you on, huh?" Let's get right into it – time to dig into this one... For the record, I've been a huge fan of Gareth Edwards ever since his first feature Monsters, writing a glowing review out of Cannes 2010 after catching a small screening. Now 13 years later he's back with another original sci-fi movie titled The Creator, a big budget studio picture that is entirely his idea. The script is credited to Gareth Edwards and Chris Weitz, but Edwards gets the sole "Story by" credit on this movie. First things first, The Creator is visually astonishing and deserves to be seen on the big screen for the visuals alone. However, the rest of the movie feels rather empty, without much of a story besides another Lone Wolf and Cub rehash built into a bigger A.I. vs humans / America vs Asia world. Despite the movie being set in...

The Creator begins with a title card and the textbook definition of a “Nirmati.” Nirmati is a Nepalese word, as well as the film’s own jargon-y term, for “creator.” As in the architect of artificial intelligence. This is a nifty bit of world-building for the movie. From the jump, we are immediately keyed into a crucial bit of minutiae while also having our toes dipped into the sci-fi movie’s pool of immersion. Yet when that pool turns out to be an ocean, and every nook, cranny, and robotic exoskeleton invites the audience to sink or swim in this vast vision of tomorrow, one wonders if the film might’ve been better served by starting with a glossary. It certainly could have helped what is an otherwise detached, and curiously shallow, story.

Director Gareth Edwards draws together the many strands of our current AI debate with tremendous boldness, conjuring up an intriguing and stimulating spectacle
This colossal sci-fi thriller from Gareth Edwards features John David Washington and Gemma Chan in vast mysterious panoramas and vertiginous vistas which deserve to be shown at Imax-plus scale; it also shows that Christopher Nolan isn’t the only British director in Hollywood thinking (and acting) big. After a stint making franchise movies such as Godzilla and the enjoyable and underrated Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Edwards has now crafted this ambitious original picture, co-written with Chris Weitz, which is closer in spirit to his ingenious 2010 debut Monsters.
The Creator is an old-fashioned sci-fi actioner with some ideas to match to state-of-the-art digital effects, in the tradition of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner or Neill Blomkamp’s District 9, with a creeping colonialist’s fear of the...

Gareth Edwards entered the film scene with "Monsters," a fantastic sci-fi movie that used its limited budget to tell a thrilling, suspenseful story. After that, however, Edwards went the route of many an indie director in the 2010s and was tapped to direct two huge blockbuster franchises, "Godzilla" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." While both had their merits ("Rogue One" even has some of the best moments in all of "Star Wars"), there is definitely something refreshing and exciting about Edwards finally overcoming his blockbuster fatigue and going back to his roots with "The Creator," a visually stunning piece of science fiction with big ideas and big performances.

Spoiler Alert: The following review contains mild spoilers.
The creator of “The Creator,” Gareth Edwards, started his filmmaking career teaching himself VFX at home. He’s an innovator on that front, devising ways to generate creepy CG monsters for “Monsters” more than a dozen years ago, then overseeing deceptively massive blockbusters, like “Godzilla,” ever since (deceptive because much of that stunning scale comes from virtual detail added in post). Edwards’ problem all along has been with the human side of his stories — “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” being the lone exception — as the characters often feel like an afterthought and the acting ruptures the reality he’s trying to establish.
“The Creator” introduces an elaborate sci-fi future in which the U.S. Army wages a second war in Vietnam, this time against the perceived threat of artificial intelligence — a timely premise, given the panic over AI getting so much press attention these days.

A big, brawny original sci-fi movie is a rare thing in the age of franchise branding, which makes you root for Gareth Edwards’ The Creator, an admirably ambitious endeavor, stuffed with imposing visuals, impressive design work and nifty tech hardware. But this future-world action thriller about a war between humankind and artificial intelligence feels like a lot of movies scrunched together, most of them familiar. A dull lead, a wishy-washy vein of ersatz spirituality, racial optics by turns uneasy and pandering and the usual chaotic plotting don’t help. Even the charm of an enigmatic robo-kid only goes so far.
Co-scripting with Chris Weitz, one of the writers on the director’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Edwards repurposes ideas from that movie with an assortment of elements and iconography pieced together from several others, among them Blade Runner, Aliens, District 9, Akira, War of the Worlds and Apocalypse Now.

It’s hard to imagine in our era of insatiable appetites for the familiar, but once upon a time a title as IP-driven as “Star Wars” was an original movie without countless sequels, prequels and sovereign derivatives to its name. There used to be an era when “Jurassic Park” hadn’t yet evolved into an elephantine universe, and standalone movies not based on existing films, characters and toys were in regular and prominent rotation in theaters.
On those terms alone, it feels like a miracle that “The Creator” exists today, helmed by none other than Gareth Edwards who directed one of those aforementioned “Star Wars” offshoots in 2016 with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and a fresh take on the legendary kaiju with his brawny “Godzilla” (2014).

The premise of Gareth Edwards’s The Creator—the United States declares war on A.I. after the programs it incorporated into commercial and military processes launch a nuclear warhead on L.A.—is right out of the dystopian playbook. The unique aspect to this telling is that while the West rejects robotics, the developing world doesn’t, leading to a massive conflict between the U.S. and “New Asia.” With much of the film set in Vietnam and Thailand, and Americans operating outside legal boundaries of war to conduct special-ops strikes on A.I. researchers and manufacturers, a heavily coded political element is added to the usual existential worries about the threat that A.I. poses to humanity.

Gareth Edwards’ “The Creator” isn’t an especially good movie, and yet I hope and believe that it has the potential to change the movies forever in some very good ways. The story it tells — about an embittered ex-special forces agent who shepherds the world’s first human/A.I. hybrid child (newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles) through a dangerous future, only to rediscover his own humanity in the process — is such an ultra-familiar mishmash of well-worn sci-fi tropes that Edwards’ and Chris Weitz’s script would hardly register as one of the year’s precious few “original” studio projects if not for how it was shot. But good lord is that a big If.
Once audiences see how “The Creator” was shot, they’ll be begging Hollywood to close the book on blockbuster cinema’s ugliest and least transportive era. And once executives see how much (or how little) “The Creator” was shot for,...

Director, Producer, and Co-Writer (with Chris Weitz) Gareth Edwards has been working on his idea for an original science fiction tale involving human interaction with advanced AI child for many years. Now that The Creator is finally reaching the screen I would say it is more like science fact, or at least a plausible facsimile. With recent warnings from Silcon Valley leaders about imminent dangers with the alarming speed of AI progress, and all the talk (especially with the guild strikes) about the threat of AI technology invading and possibly even shifting out of our control in frightening ways, Edwards has cooked up a hell of a story in which AI just might be the good guys – or robots as it were – in a world where humans could be losing the upper hand.

Gareth Edwards’ hotly anticipated sci-fi epic The Creator has finally been unveiled for its first audience, with a press screening taking place Monday evening in Hollywood.
With full reviews of The Creator still to come, the first, albeit brief, reactions on social media have been pouring in following the screening and well ahead of the film’s Sept. 29 wide release. The consensus appears to be that The Creator could be a classic.
Judging by the early social media reaction from film journalists and critics, there is almost universal praise for the way The Creator looks and the stunning work of cinematographers Oren Soffer and Greig Fraser. Many of those who saw the film on Monday described it as one of 2023’s best films.

The new trailer for Gareth Edwards’ sci-fi epic, The Creator, has landed, courtesy of 20th Century Studios. In this final look at the film before its opening later this month, the young AI child curiously inquires Joshua, played by John David Washington, what heaven is. This poignant moment happens to almost any young person who is curious about faith and humanity and soul, but here, it kicks off the philosophical ambiguity of Edwards’ film.
The official synopsis for The Creator reads,

“The Creator,” the new sci-fi film from New Regency and Disney’s 20th Century Studios directed by “Rogue One” filmmaker Gareth Edwards, blurs the line between reality and fantasy by including footage from the 2020 Beirut explosion in its tale of A.I. waging war on humanity.

Like most big-budget effects movies, “The Creator” employed several vendors to bring its otherworldly landscape to life including Folks VFX, Industrial Light & Magic, Marz, Misc Studios, Fin Design + Effects, Supreme Studio, Outpost VFX, Crafty Apes, Jellyfish Pictures, VFX Los Angeles, Frontier VFX,...
