Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom’s longest-reigning monarch, has died. She was 96.
Prior to the news of Her Majesty’s death, Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday morning, “Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.”
The queen’s family, including her four children, Prince Charles of Wales, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, grandchildren Prince William and Prince Harry, and several other members of the royal family, all traveled to Balmoral Castle in Scotland amid the news of her declining health.
Crowds also congregated outside of Buckingham Palace, awaiting further updates on the longest-reigning sovereign’s condition. Those gathered outside the gates witnessed a double rainbow appearing opposite the Palace, popping up after a morning of dark clouds and rainfall gave way to bursts of sunshine.

Yesterday (January 21) was apparently Squirrel Appreciation Day. You may choose to mark the occasion by feeding some in the park or reading some Squirrel Nutkin books.
Instead, one bloke was spotted brandishing a sadly deceased grey squirrel, live on ITV News.
Reporter Romilly Weeks was presenting outside Parliament to discuss the Chilcot inquiry, but the nation was no doubt distracted by a rather bizarre sight behind her.
It is not currently known who the man was, where he found the squirrel and where he was taking it, but we're hoping it was all above board.
Weeks later tweeted about the incident, saying: "Oh dear upstaged on the lunchtime news by a dead squirrel."
Rip our little squirrelly friend. Here's a happier picture with Norman Reedus to make you feel better:
Squirrel appreciation day done right. #TheWalkingDead pic.twitter.com/mSvSMNjeUz

Stars of the small screen reveal their TV secrets
The entertainers: Ant and Dec
This feels like real life," says Declan Donnelly, settling back into the sofa next to Anthony McPartlin. "We've done this before." You would have thought that after all those hours on telly performing – often live – for millions, Ant and Dec would want to do anything but watch it when they got home. "It's my number-one way to relax," says Dec. "We watch everything and anything and we constantly text each other to check what we're watching." Dec's last text to Ant was about the best ham sandwich in the world, as featured on Countrywise Kitchen. Ant's alerted Dec to the Hairy Bikers' pork terrine. Both food related, "but we text through sport, documentaries and dramas, too," says Dec. As hosts of Britain's Got Talent, the pair have been baffled by the competition revved...
