Guillermo del Toro is a world class film director, but apparently what he really wants to do is act...in intriciately designed monster make-up. The latest droplet of news dripping out of the seemingly forever-in-the-making world of The Hobbit (tentatively scheduled for a December 2011 release) is that del Toro has cast himself as an extra. But not just any extra-as a scary anonymous monster lurking in the background with other scary anonymous monsters. This, according to a recent interview on German TV. He elaborated in a recent post over at TheOneRing.net: "I had a hand on the design of »

Yes, you read that right, so stop rubbing your eyes and tell me - wouldn't you do the same thing if you were him? Despite a pretty solid ring of secrecy around the production, we know that Del Toro and team are deep into the development of their Hobbit movies. So far they've seemingly finished one screenplay and several creature designs, have hired Guillermo Navarro to shoot the film and have apparently come a long way in scheduling the production. On the showbizzier side of things, there's been some casting information escape from their closed, but not a great deal, and aside from the as-expected return of Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving and Andy Serkiss, the only juice we've had so announced far is a vague promise of something for Doug Jones in the movie. Nothing on the new roles at all, much less Bilbo himself. After the break, the details »

And The Wolfman's long road to the big screen takes yet another unforeseen twist. This time it's a situation around the film's score that needs some extra Tlc.
Cinemusic reports today that due to "scheduling conflicts" Danny Elfman has had to abandon his duties on the upcoming remake, and in his place will be Paul Haslinger, whose work you may be familiar with from Underworld, Death Race, Vacancy, and Crank.
Haslinger is set to begin recording in January for the film's February 13th, 2010, release date. Talk about cutting it close. We'll keep our ears to the ground for any further developments.

What to do about The Wolfman? Originally, this was a fantastic idea. Universal was going all the way back to its vaults and reintroducing the monster movies of the 1930s, most of which have stood the test of time. You had Rick Baker doing make-up effects (the created the Oscar in that category for his work on An American Werewolf in London, still unsurpassed), and Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) lined up to direct Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, and Hugo Weaving.
Romanek left and was replaced by Joe Johnston (Jurrasic Park III) and then there were grumblings that the visual effects were so bad a fair percentage of them had to be redone. The movie went from April to November to the following February, and that's where we are now: A re-tooled bit of classic monster madness opening on Valentine's Day, already carrying more than its share of dashed expectations. »

Universal has debuted two posters for The Wolfman featuring stars Benicio Del Toro and Emily Blunt. They look excellent are part of a solid marketing campaign that has deftly redirected the public’s perception after rumors of unrest during the production.
The first with Blunt came out earlier today from Cinematical with promises of a second soon after. I was hoping the second would fit into the same forest scene, but show the Wolfman stalking his prey. However, the second from AICN is just a close up of the lead who could use a razor.
Not pictured, obviously, are Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving, but it’s possible we might see a poster for each of them as well. Also, if you’re wondering why I used Benicio Del Toro’s first name in the headline, it’s because we’re on a first name basis. We’d almost have to be, »

Cinematical has an exclusive on the latest The Wolfman poster, which you can see below. The poster is more suggestive of terror than anything, featuring Emily Blunt hiding in an ancient, decrepit forest from Benicio del Toro’s wolfman. It has a stylistic black and white, overlit, grainy quality that blends well with the feel of the film. The Wolfman also stars Hugo Weaving and Anthony Hopkins and will be released in theaters on February 12th, 2010. »

Rather than keeping with the extreme close-ups of Del Toro as the title creature, the latest one-sheet for The Wolfman remake takes a far more subtle approach by focusing on one of the film's other characters.
Our friends over at Cinematical scored the first look at the new artwork, which features star Emily Blunt hiding for all she's worth. I'm guessing we're gonna be seeing more of these character driven posters soon. They usually release things like this in sets.
Look for the film in theatres (Finally) on February 12th, 2010. Hit up the above link for the whole enchilada and a high-rez version of the new poster.

Much like the new Green Zone poster released yesterday, Universal Studios have decided to use an image from the movie itself for this new poster for The Wolfman. I absolutely love it. It’s taken from part of the trailer where Emily Blunt is on the run from the Wolfman (played by Benicio Del Toro) and really captures the essence of the movie making it look like it was done in the 50s with that grainy black and white look.
The new poster has been released on Cinematical where you can see a super high resolution version of it or click the image above to view standard size. The Wolfman stars Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving, is directed by Joe Johnston and is released 12th February 2010. According to Cinematical, Aint it Cool News »

Cinematical has just received this exclusive new poster for The Wolfman, due in theaters February 12, 2010. As you can tell from above, this latest bit of marketing for the Joe Johnston directed resurrection of Universal's classic shows off the gentler side of the moon-fearing creature feature. It's a simple image of Emily Blunt, who plays Benicio del Toro's romantic interest in the film, hiding with baited breath behind a tree in the mist-filled forest from del Toro's titular man cursed with an ancient affliction.
What works so great about the poster, other than the fact that Emily Blunt is always easy on the eyes (and even easier on the eyes when in a corset), is how it denies us a glimpse of the actual lycanthrope at the center of the movie. I find it a testament to how fantastic the character of the »

The official poster for director Joe Johnston's The Wolfman hit the web today. It's a nice moody splash of high contrast black and white featuring Emily Blunt, which seems to be designed to suggest the presence of the wolfman, rather than show him outright. Check it out directly below.
Based on the 1941 classic of the same name, The Wolfman tells of Lawrence Talbot (Benicio Del Toro), an actor who returns to the home of his estranged father (Anthony Hopkins) after the death of his brother. Familiar awkwardness becomes the least of his problems when he is attacked and bitten by a wolf and quickly takes on hairy, toothy qualities whenever the moon rises.
Also starring Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving, The Wolfman is set to arrive in theaters on February 12, 2010.

Do you remember, remember, the fifth of November? Aside from being the day after the New York Yankees won the 2009 World Series, it's also widely known as Guy Fawkes Day—a day that has some significance not just for our revolutionary-minded readers, but also for comic book fans in general thanks to Alan Moore's "V For Vendetta."
Guy Fawkes, a 17th century revolutionary, attempted to blow up England's Parliament building on November 5, 1605, in what is now commonly referred to as as the Gunpowder Plot. After getting caught, tortured and subsequently executed by British authorities, Fawkes' efforts and likeness became immortalized through parables, rhymes and other such stories—including comic books.
Moore's "V For Vendetta"—the graphic novel that inspired James McTeigue's 2005 film starring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman—focuses on a vigilante named V that's taken more than a few cues from the long-deceased Fawkes, including the constant »
