He grew up in the working class suburb of Darndale in Dublin and some
attribute his tough upbringing to his cutting edge style of acting.
Barry was originally earmarked for a major part in the War of the Buttons (1994) but
unfortunately his voice broke close to the start of filming and they
had to recast him in a less central role which didn't include many
lines.
In his youth he was a staunch follower of European dance music and
'Gabber' but his musical taste has mellowed somewhat over the years
with punk rock his new favourite kind.
