In less than one year, the King of the Monsters will return to the big screen in the sequel to 2014's Godzilla, and EW recently shared the first images and new plot details from the anticipated follow-up film that further expands Legendary's MonsterVerse.
Speaking with EW, Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty discussed the mindset of the world after the events of the 2014 film:
"The world is reacting to Godzilla in the same way we would react to any other terrifying incident, in that we are overreacting... there’s paranoia and endless speculation about whether he is the only one out there or whether we’re threatened by others like his kind.”
EW also mentions that humans haven't seen Godzilla since the end of the first movie, although that will likely change once other colossal creatures make themselves known to the world, including the flying Rodan, whom Dougherty...

Following the global success of 2014’s “Godzilla” and this year’s “Kong: Skull Island,” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse: an epic action adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history.
The film, which began principal photography on June 19, is being directed by Michael Dougherty (“Krampus”), and stars Oscar nominees Vera Farmiga (“Up in the Air,” “The Conjuring” films), and Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai”) and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), both reprising their “Godzilla” roles; Kyle Chandler (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Manchester by the Sea”); Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”) in her feature film debut; Bradley Whitford (“Get Out”); Thomas Middleditch (HBO’s “Silicon Valley”); Charles Dance (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”); O’Shea Jackson Jr. (“Straight Outta Compton”); Aisha Hinds (“Star Trek Into Darkness”); and Golden Globe nominee Zhang Ziyi (“Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”).
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
Dougherty directs from a script he wrote with Zach Shields. The film is being produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Brian Rogers and Thomas Tull, with Barry H. Waldman, Zach Shields, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira serving as executive producers and Alexandra Mendes co-producing for Legendary.
Behind the scenes, Dougherty’s creative team includes director of photography Lawrence Sher, whose past credits include “War Dogs” and “Godzilla,” for which he handled additional photography; production designer Scott Chambliss (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” “Star Trek Into Darkness”); editor Roger Barton (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” the “Transformers” films); costume designer Louise Migenbach (the “X-Men” and “Hangover” films); and Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Guillaume Rocheron (“Godzilla,” “Ghost in the Shell,” and part of the Oscar-winning team behind “Life of Pi ”).
Filming is taking place mainly in Atlanta, Georgia. A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, the film is currently scheduled for release in March 2019, and will be distributed in 3D and 2D and in select IMAX theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd.
Meanwhile, Tag! You’re It!
Production begins this week on location in Atlanta for the new comedy “Tag,” directed by Jeff Tomsic (Comedy Central’s “Broad City”) for New Line Cinema. The film’s starring ensemble cast is led by Ed Helms (The “Hangover” movies, “We’re the Millers”), Jake Johnson (TV’s “New Girl”), and Hannibal Buress (“Neighbors”), with Jon Hamm (“Baby Driver,” TV’s “Mad Men”) and Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner (“The Hurt Locker, “The Town”).
For one month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running in a no-holds-barred game of tag they’ve been playing since the first grade—risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take each other down with the battle cry “You’re It!” This year, the game coincides with the wedding of their only undefeated player, which should finally make him an easy target. But he knows they’re coming…and he’s ready. Based on a true story, “Tag” shows how far some guys will go to be the last man standing.
The film also stars Annabelle Wallis (“The Mummy”), Rashida Jones (TV’s “Parks and Recreation”), Isla Fisher (“Now You See Me”) and Leslie Bibb (“Iron Man 2”).
Tomsic directs from a screenplay written by Mark Steilen (TV’s “Mozart in the Jungle”) and Rob McKittrick (“Waiting”), based on the Wall Street Journal article entitled “It Takes Planning, Caution to Avoid Being It.” The film is produced by Todd Garner, Mark Steilen and Sean Robins, with Hans Ritter serving as executive producer. The creative filmmaking team includes director of photography Larry Blanford, editor Josh Crockett, production designer David Sandefur, and costume designer Denise Wingate.
“Tag” is set for a June 29, 2018, release.

Shailene Woodley and Theo James are back to work today, as Lionsgate/Summit has announced that cameras have officially started rolling on the third film in the Divergent Series, the first half of Allegiant's adaptation for the big screen.
If you couldn't tell by my riveting opening paragraph there, I'm not all that excited about the fact that The Divergent Series: Allegiant - Part 1 (a ridiculously long and unnecessary title by the way), has started filming. However, I know the series has it's fans, despite being mediocre books and mostly boring movies, so I'm dishing out the information as given:

The sequel to Divergent, called Insurgent, is currently filming right now, and that means the studios are talking about who will be playing roles in the upcoming film. Today has come word that Rosa Salazar and Keiynan Lonsdale have joined the cast of the film along with the returning cast members. Come inside to see who they'll be portraying in the film.
I hate being a Debbie Downer about things in the film world, but I'm having a hard time mustering up much excitement for Insurgent. I'm not a fan of ther books (starting with Divergent), and while I felt the first movie was a decent adaptation, the material it's working with doesn't offer up much. Even so, fans are an eager lot, and with my Star Wars obsession, I'm not one to judge. Thus, I present today's casting news. From the Press Release:

If you were a fan of this year's movie adaptation of Veronic Roth's Divergent book featuring teens in a dystopic future (because that's the way it is folks in the Young Adult realm), then you'll be excited to hear that the cast is back together for the official start of filming on the sequel, Insurgent!
I know I sound kind of mean when I talk about these young adult book adaptations, and it's a little unfair. There are plenty of amazing books featuring teenagers as the leads out there in the world, and a few of them have been turned into great films...I just didn't think much of the Divergent book. It wasn't that great, and featured mostly themes that other books had done (only better) without contributing much of it's own. Either way, it's captured an audience, and if you're among them, then be excited for the announcement...

So we already know that a sequel to Divergent, titled Insurgent, has been given the green light. We also know that director Neil Burger won’t be returning to helm it. What we didn’t know, however, was who would replace him. Today though, the answer to that question has arrived in the form of director Robert Schwentke.
Summit announced that Schwentke will be helming Insurgent, which is the second book in Veronica Roth’s novel series and is currently being adapted for the screen by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman. Much of the cast from Divergent is expected to return and the film has a release date set for March 20th, 2015.
While I can’t say for sure how Divergent will turn out, things certainly seem promising for the Ya adaptation. Strong source material, an impressive cast, a talented director, it’s all adding up to what I think...
