“Surreal.” That’s the best way Margaret Qualley can sum up her experience at the Cannes Film Festival this year, as one of the only actors to star in not one, but two films premiering in competition — Yorgos Lanthimos’ bizarre black comedy “Kinds of Kindness” and Coralie Fargeat’s feminist body horror thriller “The Substance.”
This is Qualley’s third time at Cannes. For her first, in 2012, she walked the red carpet with her mother, Andie MacDowell; the second was in 2022, where she starred opposite Joe Alwyn in Claire Denis’ “Stars at Noon,” making her Cannes debut as an actor.
“I’m the luckiest person,” Qualley told Variety about her various experiences at the festival. “First time was a baby. I was deer in the headlights. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with myself or my life or how to do it.”

Penelope Cruz says she loved every look when Chanel’s Spring 2024 haute couture collection debuted in Paris on Jan. 23, but one dress leaped out as her favorite: a cigaline style dancing dress in a candy-hued pink, featuring a hand-beaded flounced neckline worn off the shoulders, sequined bodice and ankle-length full skirt. The design was undeniably among the highlights of the ballet-inspired collection by Chanel artistic director Virginie Viard.
Cruz forwarded the image to Chanel’s team, requesting to wear the dress at an upcoming event, and it was quickly agreed that the design would be perfect for the Feb. 24 SAG Awards — where she would be a best supporting actress nominee for Ferrari — and that crafting it in a different color also elevated the look to one-of-a-kind status for the actress.

Camila Morrone’s emergence as a red carpet star experienced an interruption in 2023 with the SAG-AFTRA strike, but her evolution is back in full force with the 2024 awards season, as evidenced by the ethereal look the Daisy Jones & The Six co-star wore to the 29th Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, Jan 14.
“I had my eye on this look forever [and] was waiting for the perfect moment to wear it,” Morrone explains of her chosen red carpet ensemble. “I always opt for something timeless and classic and feminine, but also youthful. The beading and silhouette bring the right amount of detail and dimension. It feels delicate and sophisticated.”
Working with star stylist Sandra Amador to walk the 2024 Critics Choice Awards red carpet, Morrone wore a design from creative director Virginie Viard’s Chanel Spring 2022 haute-couture collection: a white silk-chiffon top and long skirt. Both are pleated and are embroidered within the...

Chanel took over Paramount Pictures Studios Tuesday night — bringing their signature tweed to Tinseltown for the French fashion house’s highly anticipated Cruise 2023/2024 show in Los Angeles.
The night attracted stars Kristen Stewart, Marion Cotillard, and Margot Robbie, who are Chanel ambassadors, in addition to Issa Rae, Tracee Ellis Ross, Rashida Jones, Paris Hilton, Camila Morrone, Kris Jenner, Rose Byrne, Lil Nas X, and a slew of others. With Hollywood in the midst of a writer’s strike, there’d been some confusion over protocol as to what constitutes crossing a picket line. However, the location — which was booked many months ago — was ultimately deemed neutral territory since Paramount wasn’t a sponsor or involved in any way with the event’s production.

Exclusive: As Hollywood moves into a second week of the writers strike, texts are flying all over town confused about an A-lister event Tuesday night on a studio lot, the blowback that could come from attending it, and crossing potential picket lines.
“Would I be crossing a WGA picket (line) if I went?” one big-screen star asked an agent late last night. For many, in the heat of the strike, the answer is … I don’t know.
In what has become one of the first test cases for what is permissible during a strike, the short answer is no strike rules are being bent or broken by attending tonight’s soiree. The longer answer explains why.

Held at a usual Chanel spot — the Grand Palais Éphémère — the French House’s spring-summer 2023 Haute Couture collection is a continuation of creative director Virginie Viard’s spring-summer 2022 collection, unveiled exactly a year ago. In the words of the House “this new opus represents the third part of a triptych.”

"It is with deep sadness that the House of Chanel announces the passing of Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director for the Chanel Fashion House since 1983," Chanel said in a statement.
