Exclusive: Lifetime has given a green light to How To Murder Your Husband, one of the network’s new Ripped from the Headlines movies announced today, starring Cybill Shepherd (The Client List) and Steve Guttenberg. It’s slated for premiere on Saturday, January 14 at 8 pm/7c.
The project marks Shepherd’s return to Lifetime following her previous starring role in The Client List and a guest-starring role on Drop Dead Diva.
Based on a true story, the movie revolves around Nancy Crampton-Brophy, played by Shepherd, who seemed to have a knack for writing about murder. The Portland-based romance-thriller novelist authored books about relationships that were tumultuous, while using seductive men on the covers to lure in her readers. Often, her books featured women protagonists who fantasized about killing their own husbands or fleeing their husbands and faking their own deaths. And then, in 2022 in a shocking turn of events,...

Two years ago, Chloe Sevigny was cast as infamous alleged murderess Lizzie Borden for a HBO mini-series, but we're still waiting for that to come to fruition. In the meantime, Lifetime is doing its own version of the story, and they've cast Christina Ricci in the title role. Lizzie was accused (and eventually acquitted) of killing her parents with an axe while they were sleeping one night in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1892.
After the highly-publicized trial, Lizzie went on to have a relationship with actress Nance O’ Neill, and she is often referred to as a lesbian. Love letters she'd written to a female friend were found after her death, and she also was known to have "women's gatherings" at her home. Plus historians like to point out she did not "enjoy the company of men." All signs point to lez.

Female killers are all over the news lately, and adding that to the public's insatiable curiosity about whether Lizzie Borden really took an axe and gave her father 40 whacks, it's no surprise a new biopic is on its way about the notorious Fall River, Ma, resident.
Per the Wrap, Lifetime has signed Christina Ricci to star in its upcoming film about Borden, who was ultimately acquitted of killing her father and stepmother in the late 1800s. No writer has been selected yet, but Nick Gomez (Drowning Mona, "Burn Notice") is directing with Sony Pictures Television producing. Judith Verno will executive produce.
A few years back HBO had a miniseries in the works about the Borden case starring Chloe Sevigny, but we haven't heard much about it lately. We'll keep our ears open for more on both of these projects and let you know which one will be hitting the airwaves first.

"American Psycho" director may have seemed like an odd fit for a Lifetime Movie when the network's first announced it'd be working with her in October, but Mary Harron did chronicle the life of a famous pin-up in "The Notorious Bettie Page" -- Anna Nicole Smith may not be quite as iconic, but she's also not completely foreign territory for the filmmaker. Now Lifetime has set a date for "Anna Nicole," which Harron directed and which stars Agnes Bruckner ("Blue Car") as the model and actress. The film will premiere on Saturday, June 29, at 8:00pm, and co-stars Martin Landau as Smith's 89-year-old oil tycoon husband J. Howard Marshall, Virginia Madsen as Smith's mother Virgie Arthur, Adam Goldberg as Smith's attorney and lover Howard K. Stern, and Cary Elwes as E. Pierce Marshall, who fought Smith's claim to half of his father and her husband's estate after he passed away.

A movie project about Pompeii that Roman Polanski was set to direct two years ago is being re-imagined as a miniseries by a partnership that includes Sony Pictures TV, Scott Free and German producer Tandem.
As with the aborted Polanski pic, the event mini is based on the bestseller "Pompeii" by Robert Harris and will be unveiled Monday in Cannes during the Miptv program sales market. (Polanski went on to collaborate with Harris on another pic, "The Ghost Writer," but has no involvement in this epic for the smallscreen.)
Details are still sketchy as to which party will retain which distribution rights on "Pompeii," but Tandem, the company behind another mini based on Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth," will likely handle key European territories while Sony retains rights elsewhere.
