The Primetime Emmys are not necessarily known for honoring projects featuring casts that are primarily minority/people of color. The TV academy has never, for instance, given the Best Drama Series trophy to such a show. The statuette for Best Comedy Series has been won by a series featuring a largely minority cast precisely once: “The Cosby Show” in 1985. But the category of top limited/anthology/miniseries has paid golden tribute to programs with mostly minority casts a handful of times before, helping give Netflix’s “Beef” with its predominantly Asian American lineup a genuine shot to take home the biggest prize.
“Beef” tied with “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” for the most nominations among all non-regular series programs with 13. It’s presently in the lead among Gold Derby voters in the limited series race with 16/5 combined odds. Its star Ali Wong is also in first place among limited lead actresses,...

Washington — The legal blitz by voting-machine companies who have been the target of right-wing conspiracies just took another big step forward. On Thursday, the company Smartmatic sued Fox News and some of its biggest names alleging defamation and asking for a staggering $2.7 billion in damages.
The 285-page complaint names Fox Corporation, Fox News Network, as well as Fox hosts Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo, and Jeanine Pirro, along with the pro-Trump lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell who have both made frequent appearances on Fox. The complaint filed by Smartmatic alleges...

We've been telling you about Bulletface, Albert Pyun's latest neo-noir thriller, for a while now, and finally he's provided us with a trailer so you can check it out for yourselves.
Synopsis:
The story is set along the Mexico/California Border, principally in Imperial Beach, CA. It concerns a female DEA agent, Dara Maren, who, in protecting her petty criminal younger brother, gets herself arrested and imprisoned in a nightmarish penal colony outside Tijuana. You can guess how bad it gets in there -- prison officials even harvest organs from the inmates. While she's in prison, Dara's brother is murdered by a drug lord who's creating a new DNA-altering drug made from human spinal fluid tapped from the living.
Hundreds of dead bodies are turning up along the Border, and the drug addicts become something not quite human. The drug is so addicting that even law enforcement and government officials are on the stuff.

Over the holidays we heard from director Albert Pyun, who informed us that instead of his next release being Tales of an Ancient Empire, his long gestating follow-up to The Sword and the Sorcerer, it will be the gory and disturbing Bulletface written by Randall Fontana.
Pyun and Fontana first worked together on Hong Kong 97 back in 1994. Here's how Albert describes Bulletface, which he also promises is more sexually explicit than his other films and not for the faint of heart: [It] is a departure for me because of how gritty and hardboiled it is. We've just learned that Tales of an Ancient Empire will not be the next film released from director Albert Pyun. Rather Bulletface, Pyun's revenge fueled, scifi pot-boiler is expected to hit in late January while Tales heads into a final round of post.
Pyun is also telling us to expect something very different from the project: "Bulletface is a departure for me because of how gritty and hardboiled it is. Its a very taut horror/sci-fi film with a plot that twists and turns and it's more sexually explicit than my other films and is not for the feint of heart."
Victoria Maurette, who was in Pyun's Left for Dead plays Dara, a female DEA agent who, in protecting her petty criminal younger brother, gets arrested and imprisoned in a nightmarish penal colony outside Tijuana that's so brutal, prison officials even harvest organs from the inmates. Getting the The A-Team movie off the ground has been as challenging as getting Mr. T's character, B.A. Baracus, on a plane. Now, with the release date set and a new director and scriptwriter in place, the project's finally coming together.
The A-Team, a hit TV show for NBC that ran from 1983 to 1986, stars George Peppard as Col. John "Hannibal" Smith; Dirk Benedict as Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck; Dwight Schultz as Capt. H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock, and Mr. T as Sgt. Bosco "B.A." (Bad Attitude) Baracus. The group of ex-Vietnam vets are constantly on the run for a "crime they didn't commit" while trying to help those in need.
Rounding out the cast in varying seasons are Melinda Culea, Marla Heasley, Eddie Velez, William Lucking, Lance LeGault, Carl Franklin, Jack Ging, and Charles Napier, with series narration by John Ashley.
Plans for the A-Team film version...
