LONDON -- Belgium-based production, financing and distribution company Corsan on Thursday said it is launching its own sales division, Corsan World Sales, to debut next week at the Marche du Film in Cannes.
Corsan CEO Paul Breuls said the startup division will be headquartered in Belgium and headed by Catherine Vandeleene, who reports directly to Breuls.
Cori Cascante, formerly vp, marketing and publicity at August Entertainment and the Kushner Locke company, takes charge of marketing for the new sales arm, Breuls added.
In addition to selling its own movies, Corsan will seek to acquire other indie film rights to rep.
"This is a natural growth initiative for us," Breuls said in a statement. "The company's focus is on offering distributors quality material and first-rate films such as 'The Hessen Affair, ' 'The Box Collector' and 'Waiting for Dublin.' The timing and climate are ideal for the launch of this sales division and we look forward to heading into Cannes with a robust slate."
For her part, Vandeleene said the company is "looking to expand on our production efforts to take advantage of the growing appeal for films with an international flavor."
She added: "Having a sales and distribution arm allows us to capitalize on what we believe are first-rate films that should do substantial business worldwide."
Corsan currently produces two to three films a year budgeted at $7 million-$33 million per movie.
