Spoiler Alert! This story contains plot points about the season one finale of Extended Family on NBC.
Extended Family — the sitcom from Mike O’Malley that originated as an off-cycle pilot — ended its first season Tuesday after 13 episodes. The series follows Jim (Jon Cryer) and Julia (Abigail Spencer), who, after an amicable divorce, continue to raise their kids at the family home while taking turns on who gets to stay with them. Navigating the waters of divorce and child-sharing gets more complicated for Jim when the owner of his favorite sports teams (Donald Faison) enters the picture and wins Julia’s heart.
Here, O’Malley talks about why he made the decision to not end the season on a cliffhanger, how he feels about the chances of a pickup, and what he thinks about the contraction going on in Hollywood. O’Malley serves as showrunner and executive producer. Tom Werner, Jon Cryer,...

Netflix is going back to the banana stand.
“Arrested Development” is actually staying on Netflix, the streamer announced on Friday. Back in February, Netflix said that all seasons of the show would leave on March 15. But, surprise! “Arrested Development” won’t be leaving after all.
Netflix revealed the news on Twitter, writing: “The Bluths aren’t going anywhere! ‘Arrested Development is staying on Netflix!'”

All episodes of “Arrested Development” are set to be removed from Netflix on March 15 — including Seasons 4 and 5, which Netflix produced itself.
After initially running on Fox for three seasons, “Arrested Development” was canceled in 2006. In 2012, when Netflix was still relatively new to producing its own projects, the streamer elected to revive the series. Co-produced with 20th Television and Imagine Entertainment, Season 4 premiered in 2013 and the fifth and final seasons premiered in two installments between 2018 and 2019.
While the “Arrested Development” landing page on Netflix is already alerting viewers that March 14 is the last day to watch the series, that still seems to be subject to change. Norwegian crime drama “Lilyhammer,” which was billed as the first-ever Netflix original, was announced to be leaving the service last year, but a licensing renewal at the last hour allowed the series to continue streaming. But if the removal of “Arrested Development does go through,...

It’s officially time to fire up the stair-car, as Netflix and Imagine Entertainment finally concede that to leave the Bluth family on the shelf for much longer would be a huge mistake. The award-winning Arrested Development – which cultivated a devoted audience during its original run from 2004 to 2006 – was resurrected by Netflix back in 2013 as part of the earliest days of the streaming channel’s push into original programming. Now, the company is honouring a continued commitment to the show because, as Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) always says, the most important thing is family.
Arrested Development was always ahead of its time – featuring, back in 2003, the patriarch of a prominent and renowned building-empire family being prosecuted for fraud and some “light treason.” The 2013 fourth season saw that patriarch – played by Golden Globe winner Jeffrey Tambor – propose the building of a wall between Mexico and the United States, and the rest...

12 Years A Slave and Gravity have tied at this year’s PGA. With American Hustle taking the SAG ensemble on Saturday night, we have a bonafide Best Picture race on our hands folks! This is the first tie for the top film in Producers Guild Award history.
The PGA split keeps the Oscar race wide open in one of the tightest three-way battles in years, with “American Hustle” still in the game following a week of big showings at the Golden Globes, Oscar nominations and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Tonight the Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced this year’s winning motion picture and television productions at the 25th Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

Plenty of groups give out awards for excellence in film and television at the end of every year, but no set of nominations is watched more carefully by Oscar predictors than the picks from the Producers Guild. That’s because year after year their choices end up being a fairly good indicator of which films will also be granted Best Picture nominations when the Academy makes their selections.
The Guild has announced their 2014 nominations today and there aren’t really any major surprises here. All the expected films are present, including 12 Years A Slave, American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Gravity, Her and The Wolf Of Wall Street. Animated films that nabbed nominations are The Croods, Despicable Me 2, Epic, Frozen and Monsters University. Included in the documentary nominations are A Place at the Table, Far Out Isn’t Far Enough: The Tomi Ungerer Story, Life According to Sam, We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks...

The Producers Guild of America has accurately forecast the last six Best Picture Oscar winners, so it was good news for 10 films that were nominated today for the PGA’s Darryl F. Zanuck Award. While Gravity, 12 Years a Slave, and American Hustle were among the films that made the cut, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Butler, and Fruitvale Station did not. As my Televerse cohost Simon Howell and I discussed in our Top 10 TV Series of 2013 (So Far), this has been a spectacular year for television, with many shows delivering remarkably consistent seasons (or half-seasons) of memorable, moving television. A number of series were in contention for our Top 10 but didn’t quite make the cut, often because they lacked the week-in, week-out consistency of our final picks. Here is our list of the Best of the Rest, the standout episodes of 2013 from shows that didn’t make our Top 10. With so many choices, and because we’ve seen and are drawing from different series, Simon and I are offering more personalized picks here. As with our Top 10, the list is alphabetical. –Kate Kulzick

Theirs was a forbidden relationship. They were cousins, and dangerous ones at that. Their time together was fun and sexy, yes, but also complicated and confusing. They were the youngest members of the Bluth family: the sincere, perpetually flustered George Michael Bluth (Michael Cera) and rebellious, attention-seeking Maeby Fünke (Alia Shawkat). And now fates — and fan demand — have thrown these two kissing cousins together again: Arrested Development returns on May 26 after a seven-year absence with 15 new episodes on Netflix. How did this highly regarded but low-rated twisted family comedy wind up back on the screen? That story is here. But maybe,...

This evening London’s Leicester Square played host to the premiere of a TV show that has been off-air for 7 years but one that we and many others have wanted to see return. That show is of course Arrested Development.
Many of the shows favourites including Alia Shawkat, Michael Cera, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor and Tony Hale were present and we got to chat with them all about what it was like returning to their characters that they have been absent from for so long. You could see from all the interviews conducted by Joe Cunningham (with Colin Hart on camera duties) that the cast were hugely grateful to the public for wanting the series to return and also grateful to Netflix who have Season 4 exclusively.

Nearly every Bluth family member has his or her own version of the Chicken Dance on Arrested Development. (Jessica Walter told us she wanted Lucille’s to look tipsy.) But none is more iconic than Gob’s, the Patient Zero of Chicken Dances. It was first unleashed in season one’s “Staff Infection,” to taunt Buster into going on strike with the construction crew. “I remember reading that script and going, Uh, what is that?” Will Arnett told Vulture. “It just said, ‘Gob does his chicken dance.’” And then it was time to create a move that would rival Michael Jackson’s moonwalk in choreographic historical importance. To decide what Gob’s bad impression of a chicken might be, Arnett consulted on set in 2003 with series executive producers Mitch Hurwitz and James Vallely. They all tried out different versions for each other. “Jimmy started doing a little bit, then Mitch got up and did some,...

Jessica Walter has a diverse acting career for more than 50 years, ranging from film to television and every single genre in between. She’s appeared on a multitude of television series from The Alfred Hitchcock Hour to Columbo. In the 90′s, she could be heard on the prehistoric sitcom, Dinosaurs, as the pained upon wife, Fran Sinclair. As of late, she can be seen (and heard) everywhere on the TV Land sitcom, Retired at 35, and as the voice of Malory Archer, on the hit FX series, Archer. She’s also returning to her massively loved role as cold-hearted, and perky Lucille Bluth on the new season of Arrested Development on Netflix in May. She’s also got a long film career as well with roles ranging from Play Misty for Me, to roles in my favorite films growing up, Tapeheads and Pcu. She’s just as whip-funny and warm as she comes off,...

Just as Mitch Hurwitz, Jim Vallely, and Dean Lorey begin writing the new 10-episode season of the once-cancelled-and-recently-internet-greenlit Fox television show Arrested Development (scheduled to air on Netflix sometime in 2013), Crackle greenlights another entrant into the Long-Form-Content-of-Television-Quality-but-Distributed-Online fray. Andrew Wallenstein at Variety reports the digital network, studio, and destination for television programs, movies, and a healthy amount of original web series just ordered six episodes of a half-hour anthology series dubbed The Unkown. Sons of Anarchy producer Chris Collins and the Co-Head of Fox Writers Studio Steve Tzirlin are on board to executive produce. The Unkown will be in the vein of The X-Files, Creepshow, and/or Twilight Zone and is scheduled scheduled to go into production in March for a 2012 release. That’s almost a full year after Eric Berger, Executive Vice President of Digital Networks at Sony Pictures Television, announced Crackle would make a pivot into long-form, but still male-leaning programming.

The revival of the Emmy-winning sitcom Arrested Development has taken another big step: According to series writer and co-exec producer Dean Lorey, the entire original cast is returning. Lorey via his blog also wrote that he, Mitch Hurwitz and Jim Vallely are penning a new season to premiere next year, and that shooting begins in 2012, with “offices and parking spaces” already set up. The cast — Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Michael Cera, Tony Hale, Jeffrey Tambor, David Cross, Alia Shawkat and Jessica Walter – all expressed interest in reprising their roles and supported the idea during a panel back in October. But two months after Netflix picked up rights to the series, there are still no formal deals between castmembers and series producer 20th Century Fox TV. Lorey on his blog apologized that “even the schedule is being kept under wraps,” so he didn’t dish any more information on the series.

Chicago – Ever since the final moments of the last episode of ‘Arrested Development’ (back in 2006), there have been rumors about a feature film being created for the TV series. Cast members and writers would be asked, “when is this movie coming out?” and responses would usually be “we are working on it” or “it’s coming.” Now, after six years, those responses may actually be true.
After news came out last October that a deal was being made with Netflix for a new season of ‘Arrested Development’ and a movie to follow the revival season, writer Dean Lorey has confirmed on his blog that Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Jeffrey Tambor, David Cross, Michael Cera, Portia De Rossi, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat, and Jessica Walter are all confirmed for the new revival season, as well as Lorey’s fellow writers Mitch Hurwitz and Jim Vallely.

The entire original cast of "Arrested Development" -- Jason Bateman, Will Arnett Jeffrey Tabor, David Cross, Michael Cera, Portia De Rossi, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat and Jessica Walter -- will be back for the new season on Netflix, according to writer Dean Lorey.
Lorey took to his blog to share the news.
"We're really doing this thing," he wrote. "Mitch Hurwitz, Jim Vallely and I are off writing the new season of 'Arrested' to premiere on Netflix in 2013."
To all the skeptics out there, Lorey confirmed that production is underway, even though the schedule is under wraps. "There are offices and parking spaces," he wrote. The new season is slated to debut on Netflix in 2013, with a film to follow.

The Bluths are making a comeback at last.
Five years since the end of acclaimed quirky comedy "Arrested Development", the cast reunited at a New Yorker Festival event yesterday where creator Mitchell Hurwitz revealed some ambitious plans.
According to The L.A. Times, Hurwitz said that not only is a film adaptation of the series still in the works, they're also planning a set of 9-10 television episodes, each focused on a certain character.
The plan is that this mini-fourth season of sorts will serve as a kind of prequel to the movie - basically bridging the gap of what happened to the key characters between the end of the last series and the start of the film.
Hurwitz said he's halfway done with a screenplay with his co-writers Jim Vallely and Dean Lorey. No details however on who is backing the project, or any kind of production or release dates.

Update: Deadline.com's Nellie Andreeva brings some information that makes this all sound a little more likely with the following news: I have learned that 20th Century Fox TV, which co-produced Arrested Development with Imagine TV, has had talks with Netflix, which has been on the hunt for original programming, and Showtime, whose new entertainment president David Nevins shepherded Arrested Development when he ran Imagine TV. My previous post follows:
So the word around the online campfire right now is that series co-creator Mitch Hurwitz is hoping Fox will bring back their cancelled television series "Arrested Development" for a 10 episode fourth season before they shuffle off and have Universal release a film adaptation. There have been rumors of a movie ever since the show went off the air back in 2006 and this is as close to the film becoming a reality we've seen yet.

As viewers keep running away from the Mitch Hurwitz--Jim Vallely creation, Fox has announced that it's benching 'Running Wilde' for two weeks during November sweeps.
Although the show has only just returned to screens after being preempted for the last few weeks, deadline.com reports that the next new episode won't air until Nov. 30. Instead, Fox will air new episodes of fellow newbie sitcom, 'Raising Hope,' in the 9:30Pm Tuesday slot.
Yesterday we heard that network execs are looking at new Christian Slater comedy, 'Breaking In,' as a possible replacement for 'Running Wilde' at midseason.

"Our goal is eventually to have every person on 'Arrested Development' come on the show," quipped Arnett. "That's actually our secret goal that we've laughed about for a long time."

The last time actor Will Arnett, writer/creator Mitch Hurwitz and writer James Vallely all got together on Fox, they created one of the biggest winning-losing formulas on television – Arrested Development. Despite being recognized by critics and fans as one of the greatest comedies to ever air, it was infamously canceled after three short seasons by Fox, and seemingly doomed to unfulfilled rumors of a movie in the years since. So is Running Wilde, the latest from the trio, back on Fox, able to live up to its Arrested's pedigree and somehow beat its fate? Not really. Though the pilot of Running Wilde was good for a few laughs, in part due to the early appearance of another Arrested Development alum, David Cross, it struggled with getting the story rolling, and worst of all, in making us care about its characters. But we’ll get to all of that in a moment.

Tonight Fox debuts Running Wilde, one of the most anticipated new comedies of the fall season. Running Wilde is the brainchild of: Will Arnett, Mitch Hurowitz and Jim Vallely, all of Arrested Development fame. A comedy with that pedigree seems like a sure fire hit, right? Unfortunately, Running Wilde leaves a lot to be desired. So what went wrong?
As much as it pains me to say this (because I've always liked the guy and keep in mind I have only seen the pilot), Will Arnett may not be a leading man. A little Arnett goes a long way, and so far it has worked out wonderfully for him. He seems to be an in demand guest star for any buzzed about comedy that is looking for some cred. Running Wilde is Arnett's first attempt at leading man status (in a TV show), and so far the results are mixed.

There's something courageous to the idea of reviewing Fox's "Running Wilde" without mentioning the words "arrested" or "development." There's something adventurous to determining that you're going to review 'Running Wilde' as the not-especially-funny show that it is and not as the successor to the extremely funny show that it isn't. But I can't. Fox can't either. Without the associated names of Mitchell Hurwitz, Jim Vallely and Will Arnett, there's no way that "Running Wilde" makes it onto the air at all. For Fox, picking this show up was an act of good faith for a group of talented...

Arrested Development alum Will Arnett reunites with his former exec producers, Mitch Hurwitz and Jim Vallely, and his former costar, David Cross, for Fox’s new romantic sitcom Running Wilde — and Felicity’s Keri Russell is faced with the daunting task of crashing that absurdist party. How does it all work out? Get a preview of their comedic chemistry in our behind-the-scenes video of their photo shoot for EW’s Fall TV Preview as they tell us all about their new show — and, um, Will makes out with a snake. Rarely have I seen a show that seemed to have so much potential on paper, while at the same time managing to convince me that so little of that potential will ultimately be realized. The outline of Running Wilde may not exactly jump out at me – the wacky love-interest angle between the rich, spoiled son of an oil tycoon, and the (let’s face it) laughably liberal girl who got away when the two were kids – but the people involved in the show offer up bags of potential television goodness, and moreover bring to mind just the sort of potential that is ripe for the market right now.
Will Arnett is a fairly safe bet at the moment, as more and more people come into the Arrested Development fold. It’s a rare testament to everything about Ad that the number of fans never seems to stop growing. Thus, when...

If you wondered how long it took before first Arrested Development-related question at the Running Wilde panel came in, it was a couple of minutes. The comparisons are inevitable: new Fox comedy series Running Wilde was created by Arrested alums Mitch Hurwitz, Will Arnett and Jim Vallely and stars Arnett, with another Arrested actor, David Cross, recently joining the cast in a recasting. "We very much loved Arrested Development, we miss it and that's why we still want to make the movie, Hurwitz said, adding after the session that the script for the movie is halfway done. "But this is a different project, and it has a different set of rules to it." Addressing the fact that, with Wilde, he is looking to do a romantic comedy with wider appeal than the off-beat Arrested, Hurwitz confessed that "I have a fear of success.... a hope of it being cancelled,...

Fox's fall sitcom "Running Wilde" naturally draws comparisons to "Arrested Development," but not because they're anything alike.
The sitcom stars Will Arnett and springs from the comic minds of Arnett, "Arrested Development" creator Mitch Hurwitz and writer Jim Vallely, but don't expect something quite as subversive or full of unlikable characters.
Steven Wilde (Arnett) is a spoiled playboy who has it all ... except the love of his childhood sweetheart Emmy Kadubic (Keri Russell), who's as liberal, eco-friendly and humanitarian as they come. Not exactly a match. Regardless, his efforts are recounted through the eyes of a the 12-year-old girl Puddle (Stefania Owen). The series also co-stars Peter Serafinowicz and David Cross.
"It's different, there's a burden association with 'Arrested Development' that's a high class problem to have," Hurwitz tells the TCA Monday (Aug. 2), although he allays some fears, adding, "We're glad to be working and doing something that...

Slowly but surely, we’re edging our way toward an Arrested Development reunion. I’m not talking about that long-awaited movie, but rather a project in the original medium. Ever since the show was unceremoniously canceled, rumors have circulated that "Arrested Development" would be resurrected via a big-screen adaptation. GQ Magazine spoke to Will Arnett and creator Mitch Hurwitz about their upcoming new series "Running Wilde," and they both went on the record with the official confirmation that you've all been waiting for: the "Arrested Development" movie is a "go."
"Yes, it's happening," Arnett told the magazine, adding that there is an unfinished script and that all the principle cast members have signed on. Many of the series stars have said as much at one point or another. The strongest confirmation came from series creator Hurwitz himself.
"Believe it or not, we have started the script," he said, with we referring to himself and "Arrested" co-executive producer Jim Vallely. "We're taking a little abeyance while we get ['Running Wilde'] up and running. But it is our absolute next priority and we can't wait to do it.

"Arrested Development" is one of those television shows that unfortunately was short-lived but still has a very strong following. Then again, the show did finish up in 2006 so it hasn't been way too long since it was last aired. There's been rumors flying like crazy for years about an "Arrested Development" movie. Is it getting made, is it just merely a thought, none of us knew until now. In an interview with actor Will Arnett and creator Mitchell Hurwitz, they both spill on the fate of the film."Yes, it's happening." He went on, but here's the upshot: there is a script but it is not finished; all of the principle cast members are on board, but there is no timetable to acually make the movie."Believe it or not, we have started the script," Hurwitz told GQ. From the Emmy Award-winning creator of Arrested Development comes a romantic comedy starring Will Arnett as Steve Wilde, a filthy-rich, immature playboy trying desperately to win (or buy) the heart of his childhood sweetheart, Emmy Kadubic (Keri Russell), the uber-liberal humanitarian who got away - all told through the perspective of a 12-year-old girl. The series is written and created by Mitch Hurwitz, Jim Vallely, and Will Arnett. Hurwitz, Vallely, Arnett, Anthony Russo, and Joe Russo serve as executive producers. The Russo brothers (Community) also directed the pilot. I love Arnett and I'm happy to see him in a leading role. Coming tuesdays this fall on Fox.

Something new will be coming to Fox next fall: half-hour, live-action comedy that's actually being given a chance to succeed.
The network will use "Glee" to launch a pair of new comedies -- "Raising Hope" and "Running Wilde" -- in the fall, and will slot another one ("Mixed Signals") in at midseason. Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly says each show has "markers for something good," meaning that they have the potential to grow from what's in their pilots.
With the drama schedule relatively stable -- "House," "Bones" and "Fringe" will all be back in their current timeslots, while "Lie to Me" and "Human Target" will anchor two other nights -- Fox only picked up three shows. We'll discuss two of them below, but the third -- the Steven Spielberg-produced time-travel adventure "Terra Nova," had only talking heads (from Spielberg and exec producers Peter Chernin and Brannon Braga) and conceptual drawings to show.
