Law & Order: Svu’s Tamara Tunie Takes Us Inside Her Moving Organized Crime Reunion With Chris Meloni
Medical examiner Melinda Warner was only on screen for a few minutes of Thursday’s Law & Order: Organized Crime, but the short scene carried a lot of meaning for longtime Svu fans.
Not only was Tamara Tunie’s return the first time we’ve seen onetime Svu series regular Warner since Svu‘s 500th episode, it marked a quiet moment of… dare we say friendship between the coroner and the ever-more-reflective cop? The scene also allowed Tunie and series lead Chris Meloni, who are friends in real life, a chance to mix it up in the morgue once more.

Tamara Tunie is back in the Law & Order franchise this week with her guest spot on Organized Crime, reuniting her with Christopher Meloni (Detective Elliot Stabler) after 12 years. Tunie debuted as medical examiner Melinda Warner in Svu Season 2 and became a series regular in Season 7. She exited in Season 12 (the last time Meloni appeared on Svu before the launch of the spinoff) but continued to make guest spots. She was last seen in Svu‘s 500th episode in 2021. In the January 25 Organized Crime episode, “Deliver Us From Evil,” after a deadly bombing claims the life of a spiritual leader, Stabler meets with an officer who’s convinced the crime is part of a larger conspiracy. Tensions rise within the task force as Jet (Ainsley Seiger) struggles to get her team on board with Vargas’ (Tate Ellington) program. Plus, Stabler welcomes his older brother Randall (Dean Norris) to town. Below,...

And after the Season 4 premiere set up Randall’s introduction, the first footage of him is revealed in the promo for Episode 2, “Deliver Us From Evil,” airing January 25. At the end of the premiere, Stabler finds his mother Bernadette (Ellen Burstyn) searching for tickets — and she pleads with him to look but thinks he’s Randall. She can’t remember where she’s going. “Don’t touch me,” she tells him. “I don’t need you. I need Randall. I need your brother. Where is Randall?” Now, in the promo, which you can watch above, we not only get a look at Svu...

In 1985 Whitney Houston took the music world by storm with her record-setting self-titled debut album. The diamond-certified release included three Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers: “Saving All My Love For You,” “How Will I Know” and “Greatest Love of All.” Two years later, with a sophomore disc simply titled “Whitney,” she became the first woman to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart. Four more number ones – “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)”, “Didn’t We Almost Have It All,” “So Emotional” and “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” made her the first artist (and only to this day) to have seven consecutive number one singles.
The legendary diva’s musical success continued through “I’m Your Baby Tonight” in 1990, with two more number one singles including the title track and “All the Man That I Need,” but it was her foray into film that shot Houston’s career into another stratosphere.

Whitney Houston had “the Voice.” It was trained, expressive, and clear. She didn’t write the songs she sang, but interpreted them, capturing the imagination of a generation. The first triple RIAA Diamond-certified-selling Black artist, Houston broke records set by the Beatles, Elvis, and Sinatra, which had nothing to do with racial divides. Now streaming on Netflix, I Wanna Dance with Somebody stars British actress Naomi Ackie, who plays Houston as a harried artist, only taking her time during performance, but rushed on and off the stage.
Directed by Kasi Lemmons and written by Anthony McCarten (Bohemian Rhapsody), the musical biopic captures the melody of Houston’s life but also speeds the beat. It misses the rests between notes. Most of the erroneous materials come from narrative streamlining. For instance, Houston wasn’t discovered because her mother, the ever-professional Cissy Houston (Tamara Tunie), showed up at a club like Sweetwaters pretending to have laryngitis.

Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody is a movie directed by Kasi Lemmons starring Naomi Ackie.
Today we saw this biopic about the always great Whitney Houston… according to some, the singer deserved something better than this; and for others… a good chance to remember her always.
A tribute to the singer born in Newark.
About the Movie Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody
Another biopic? Unfortunately, yes. This genre calls for more respect for the biography than a more developed introspection of the characters and frequently settles for composing works that revolve around more or less famous fragments and lose out (almost always) in the general balance, forcing respecto ver creation.
Many are born as failures.
With all our respects (totally) for the singer, we are of the opinion that this is a movie that although it is faithful to the biography, does not manage to transmit...

The Devil’s Advocate is a horror movie directed by Taylor Hackford starring Al Pacino, Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron.
About the Movie The Devil’s Advocate
The Devil’s Advocate has Al Pacino at his best and if we want to see him in his Italian acting that is so personal, this is the movie to watch: he dances Flamenco style and whatever they throw at him and invoques the rage of God. Keanu Reeves is… passably good but don´t forget this actor has worked with Coppola and Scorsese so he must be pretty special… and Charlize Theron who is great in the role of the wife of lawyer Kevin Lomax.
Storyline (let´s hope this is not a Spoiler Alert): our star is a unscrupulos lawyer that doesn´t hesitate in defending supposed (more than guilty) pedophiles to pocket some good cash. With these high morals, there is only...

“Music was a part of her life from the time she was a very young child,” says Tamara Tunie while discussing her portrayal of Cissy Houston in the Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Cissy is a Grammy-winning gospel music legend, Whitney’s mother and the aunt of Dionne Warwick. “Her family was steeped in music. The family organically learned that this was a very talented group of siblings that then became quite famous gospel singers.”

Brian De Palma's energetic 1998 neo-noir/mystery "Snake Eyes" bears a lot of the filmmaker's famously serpentine aesthetic hallmarks. De Palma employs numerous split-screens, for instance, as well as long tracking shots and Pov scenes to mete out carefully eschewed information at just the right pace. Nicolas Cage plays an Atlantic City police detective who is visiting a friend, a naval commander played by Gary Sinise, while attending a high-profile boxing match. When one of the boxers is shot by a sniper (!), Cage springs into action immediately begins investigating who was where in a crowded arena. He zeroes in on a mysterious femme fatale in white (Carla Gugino). Naturally, the screenplay, by David Koepp, goes places a viewer doesn't expect. Luis Guzmán, Tamara Tunie, and Kevin Dunn play supporting roles.

Naomi Ackie gives audiences a glimpse into the life of Whitney Houston in director Kasi Lemmons’ new biopic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” and the new film is packed with a number of Houston’s hits.
Working with movement coach Polly Bennett and vocal coaches Tangela Large, Bridgette Jackson and Denise Woods, Ackie also underwent physical transformation with the help of numerous wigs and false teeth to cover the natural gap in her two front teeth.
Ackie doesn’t sing most songs in the film — she lip syncs to Houston’s perfect tracks instead — but she mimics Houston’s style of singing with great detail. She steps in for performances by Houston that were not recorded, such as “Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah” and “Jesus Loves Me” from her choir-singing days. Stanley Tucci wants to stress how important costume changes are – especially the wigs.
The actor spoke with Yahoo! News about the transformation process into Whitney Houston’s legendary manager Clive Davis for the upcoming biopic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”.
“There were some wonderful designers on the film, including my friend Anne Morgan. She created all the wigs and was there to put them on me,” he explained.

For Tucci, who describes himself as a “physical actor”, getting the costume exactly right was crucial to his character building.
“Sometimes we would do three different eras in one day. All that stuff – the wigs, padding etc – makes a big difference to me because I’m a physical actor and when you have all that, you change physically and instantly you change everything inside as well,” he added.

The holidays started early in Tinseltown (and elsewhere), beginning with James Cameron missing his own “Avatar: The Way of Water” Hollywood premiere, knocked down with a bout of Covid and moving on to New York’s first look at “Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Santa turned up at Christina Moore and John Ducey’s “I Believe in Santa” Netflix premiere and there was even a Christmas Con! With a little over a week left in 2022, it looks like the cinematic musical “biopic” of the year will be Elvis, so who’s next…oh, wait, we’ve got another one sneaking in just under the wire. And it turns out that this singer (according to many music charts and lists) had more hits than the King or the “Fab Four”. And all after “E” had “left the building”, er…planet. Aside from success, she certainly had enough drama in her short life for a feature film (actually she was the focus of a cable TV flick and a supporting player in three others). So after the gifts are unwrapped you may want to head to the multiplex for an eye and ear-full of Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

Plot: The life of Whitney Houston (Naomi Ackie), from her early days as an up-and-comer to her eventual run as a superstar and drug-fuelled decline.
Review: I Wanna Dance with Somebody is a mixed bag as far as music biopics go. While it follows the familiar beats and doesn’t shy away from the darker side of Houston’s life and career, the film is perhaps too devoted to Houston’s music to work as a compelling drama. Of the 144-minute running time, conservatively, forty (or more) minutes are devoted to lengthy restagings of Houston’s live performances. Given that Houston’s real vocals were used, that means star Noami Ackie is given little to do but mime to these performances. While Houston’s once-in-a-generation voice obviously can’t be imitated, it leaves Ackie too little time to inhabit the part effectively.
Ackie’s performance suffers partly because Houston is...

For starters, she’d run in similar circles to the iconic musician in the ‘80s and early ‘90s, back when Lemmons was acting in films like School Daze and The Silence of the Lambs. After transitioning to filmmaking with her remarkable debut Eve’s Bayou, she met with Whitney to pitch a screenplay she’d written for her about the International Sweethearts of Rhythm, a trailblazing all-women swing and jazz group in the ‘30s and ‘40s,...

I Wanna Dance with Somebody review: The first authorised biopic turns Whitney Houston into a product
When Whitney Houston died in 2012, in a drug-related accidental drowning at age 48, the search for an explanation took on a desperate edge. Tell-all memoirs were published by her inner circle. Documentaries – 2017’s Whitney: Can I Be Me and 2018’s Whitney among them – functioned more like space probes. A Lifetime series directed by Houston’s Waiting to Exhale co-star, Angela Bassett, came across as earnest but slight. Most of these positioned Houston as an Icarus plummeting back down to Earth, with an outsized focus on her latter years of addiction, her fading vocal range, and her tabloid domination.
She’d become one of the many, cautionary tales that haunt pop culture’s margins, all at the expense of that miraculous talent that once earned her the nickname “The Voice”. So, it’s hard to fault Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody, the first biopic authorised by her estate, for its attempt to recentre her legacy.

Directed by Kasi Lemmons, written by Anthony McCarten, Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody is the new biopic on the singer’s life. Her history is full of dense material and naturally some things have to be left out for the sake of time, but 2.5 hours isn’t enough to do the story justice. The movie stars Naomi Ackie, Stanley Tucci, Nafessa Williams, and Ashton Sanders.
The film starts with Whitney (Naomi Ackie) singing in the church choir run by her mother Cissy (Tamara Tunie), who also has a small band she performs with where Whitney sings back up. While chilling in the park listening to music the young singer meets Robyn (Nafessa Williams), a young girl from her neighborhood who she befriends. A friend of the family brings Arista Records CEO Clive Davis (Stanley Tucci) to a show where Cissy is supposed to lead, but she pushes...

Naomi Ackie is excellent in the title role and the film delivers all the singer’s big hits, but it swerves the difficult questions
Whitney Houston has already been the subject of two startling and effectively competing documentaries: Nick Broomfield’s Whitney: Can I Be Me? from 2017 and Kevin Macdonald’s Whitney, which was released a year later. Each in its own way was hamstrung by legal issues and family pressure, although Broomfield’s was perhaps the more judicious and insightful. Now here is a music biopic on very traditional lines from screenwriter Anthony McCarten and director Kasi Lemmons: a smoothly watchable and well performed piece of work. It is almost a 144-minute narrative montage, and very avoidant on key issues – seemingly deferring to everyone who is still alive and suing.

Hollywood pop-music biopics tend to be about artists who go back a long way. “Bohemian Rhapsody” felt rooted in a fresher, less done-to-death-by-biopics era — though when the Freddie Mercury drama came out, its title song was already 43 years old. “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” which tells the exultant and tragic story of Whitney Houston, feels different. Houston’s first album was released in 1985, and maybe because her triumphs and travails were chronicled, right as they were happening, by a newly emerging entertainment-media-gossip complex, the film feels like it’s telling a story that never went away. Yet as you watch, you may realize how much there is to the story you didn’t know, and how transporting it is. “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” is the kind of lavishly impassioned all-stops-out biopic you either give into or you don’t — and if you do, you may find yourself getting so emotional,...

Among the many winning qualities of Kasi Lemmons’ Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody is that unlike most musical biopics, which tend to hurtle through frustrating fragments of the hits that leave you wanting more, this one serves up many generous performance interludes. It’s fitting that in a portrait of the woman considered the greatest voice of her generation, we hear that voice in all its full-throated glory. The power, self-possession, the joy and even spiritual wealth in every vocal probably has a lot to do with this feeling less like a tragic rise-and-fall saga than a celebration of an enduring icon to whom fame wasn’t always kind.
That doesn’t mean that Lemmons and screenwriter Anthony McCarten — cornering the market in the musical bio-drama after Bohemian Rhapsody and the Neil Diamond Broadway jukebox assembly A Beautiful Noise — gloss over...

Engineered to satisfy the nostalgia of adoring fans, the Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” unfurls as an inventory of touchstone moments in the gifted singer’s tumultuous career — a greatest hits album if you will.
With Naomi Ackie (“Small Axe”) in the central role and veteran director Kasi Lemmons (“Eve’s Bayou”) at the helm, the generally by-the-numbers execution and structure still yields some goosebumps-inducing highlights that evoke Houston’s stage presence.
The screenplay by Anthony McCarten, a sought-after biopic writer whose recent credits include the utterly conventional but awards-friendly “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Darkest Hour,” drops us into the timeline in 1983 when Houston shared her privileged pipes with her congregation and at a local New Jersey club with her mother, Cissy (Tamara Tunie).
Unexpectedly — considering how McCarten’s film on the Queen vocalist sanitized his sexuality — Houston’s romantic attraction for women is established from the early scenes,...

“Memory is a selection of images, some elusive, others imprinted indelibly on the brain,” says the film’s narrator, voiced by Tamara Tunie. Kasi Lemmons’ eerie, Southern Gothic directorial feature debut, “Eve’s Bayou,” is as elusive twenty-five years later as it was in 1997.

“Good Night Oppy” lived up to its name. The space doc about rovers on Mars took the top honors at the 7th Annual Critics Choice Awards in midtown Manhattan. The move from Brooklyn (where the show had been produced for the last six years) was an upgrade. “Take a look around the Edison Ballroom,” ‘Oppy’ filmmaker Ryan White said. “It was a theater for over 60 years and did ‘Oh Calcutta’ for 13 years. Totally nude with sex-related sketches written by Sam Shepard, Samuel Beckett, Jules Feiffer and John Lennon.” Okay, yes, this place in the Edison Hotel is cooler.

The second trailer for the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic, "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," dropped today, and we've already got goosebumps. Directed by the brilliant Kasi Lemmons, this celebration of one of the greatest vocalists to ever walk the earth is the latest biopic from the producers who created the Academy Award-winning film about Freddie Mercury, "Bohemian Rhapsody." Whitney Houston's life has been at the center of public speculation for decades, and her untimely death only exacerbated tabloid obsessions. Fortunately, based on everything we know about "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," Lemmons' film starring Naomi Ackie is an empathetic look at the woman remembered as "The Voice."
The new trailer intercuts footage from the film against the sound of Whitney Houston belting out "I Will Always Love You," a surefire way to pull on the emotional heartstrings of anyone watching. There are shots of crowds cheering her name, Oprah Winfrey introducing her to an audience,...

It's still hard to imagine how musical biopics can exist in a post "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" world, but the last few years have been bursting with big-budget biopics centered on some of the most iconic performers in music history. Jennifer Hudson belted her face off as Aretha Franklin in "Respect," Taron Egerton was downright dazzling as Elton John in "Rocketman," Austin Butler may be looking at an Oscar nomination for his turn in "Elvis," following a trend set by Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury in "Bohemian Rhapsody." Now, the queen of R&b is getting a high-profile film of her own, with Naomi Ackie as Whitney Houston.
The upcoming film "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" comes from "Bohemian Rhapsody" screenwriter Anthony McCarten and groundbreaking director Kasi Lemmons, with Ackie lip-syncing to Houston's unbelievable voice while embodying the remarkably talented woman the world lost too soon. The...

If being the most decorated female singer of all time and being dubbed “The Voice” aren’t honorific enough, Whitney Houston is now getting the biopic treatment. Now, the first trailer for I Wanna Dance With Somebody has dropped, showcasing Houston in all of her glory.
The trailer for I Wanna Dance with Somebody opens with Whitney Houston being forced to take the stage after her mother can’t perform. With famed record producer Clive Davis in the audience, Houston is soon in the spotlight. Guided by early single “How Will I Know”, various clips show Houston as both a commanding presence and the target of scrutiny for not making “black enough” music. Another key highlight is her performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl Xxv, one of the most iconic renditions of the song.
