On Friday, June 7, during CBS’ telecast “The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards,” ABC’s “General Hospital” once again broke its record for the most wins in the Outstanding Daytime Drama Series category, taking home the award for the fourth consecutive year and 17th time overall.
In addition to winning the night’s top prize, “General Hospital” also received awards for Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Writing teams. Actor Robert Gossett won his second consecutive Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor for his role as Marshall Ashford on the drama series.
The writing win for “General Hospital” marked the first time in 15 years the show has taken home the award and the show’s first win under the penmanship of former head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor.

While it was announced in January that “General Hospital” had replaced co-head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor with new co-head writers Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahey, it looks like Van Etten at least is officially back in the writer’s room at the ABC daytime drama series.
During the Tuesday, May 14 episode, Van Etten’s name appeared in the credits for the first time since mid-March, this time as a breakdown writer.
Savvy fans had an inkling that Van Etten returned to the series when actress Alley Mills let the news slip during a video interview with journalist Michael Fairman in late April.
At the time, Mills was discussing her second consecutive Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series for her portrayal of Heather Webber on the series. She won her first-ever Emmy in December 2023 for her work.

I’ve loved a lot of gay characters over the years and Brendan Brady is probably one of my favorites. Because of his dark history and edgy style he’s unique among gay soap characters in just about every respect, and I like that the show takes chances with this bad boy. And it goes without saying that actor Emmett Scanlan is brilliant in the role. But I haven’t been happy with the way he’s been written for the past several months, mostly because it’s the same material we’ve already been through with Brendan, giving the character little chance for growth and leaving the continuing impression the show isn’t sure how to write for him.
I had hoped we might see something fresh for this character when Ash decided to do a thesis on Brendan. It looked as if the...

There's been an unusual and unexpected casting switch on 'Days of Our Lives,' with Emmy-award winning actress Natalia Livingston being replaced by Tamara Braun.
What's strange is that Livingston was let go because the writers changed the character of Taylor Walker, and Natalia's not the right actress for the part anymore. Braun, who has excelled in bad girl roles, apparently is. Braun's first airdate will be in April.
'Days' co-executive producer Gary Tomlin talked to Soap Opera Digest about the change, saying, "It was decided to take the character ... in a new direction. Natalia Livingston is an amazing actress and a consummate professional. She is a class act and everyone at the studio adores her."
Braun, like Livingston, is an award-winner. In fact, Braun won the Daytime Emmy as Ava Vitali on 'Days' in 2009. Presumably, fans won't mind that...
