- Yoshiyuki Tomino was born on November 5, 1941 in Odawara, Japan. He is a writer and director, known for Mobile Suit Z Gundam: A New Translation - Heirs to the Stars (2004), Mobile Suit Z Gundam II: A New Translation - Lovers (2005) and Mobile Suit Gundam (1979).
- Worked with Hayao Miyazaki on Future Boy Conan (1978) during their time at Nippon Animation. It has been recorded that their respective styles and approaches caused them to clash frequently.
- Appears with the famed and notorious rock star Gackt at the premiere of the new 'Kidô senshi Z Gandam - A New Translation III - Love is the Pulse of the Stars' movie on February 23rd at the Yurakuchou Marion Asashi Hall in Tokyo. This film marks the end of the collaboration between the two on this project, but as both men have expressed admoration for the works of the other (and Gackt has long been a fan of the various 'Gundam' series), they each hope to be able to work together on another project in the future.
- The creation of his signature series Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) and the Gundam franchise is depicted (though with comical creative liberties) in the manga Gundam Sousei.
- Came up with the name "gundam" by combining the words "freedom" and "gun" to tell a story about the nature of war and human conflict.
