First Teaser for ‘Season of the Witch’

23 October 2009 11:15 AM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Halloween is officially 8 days away (7 if you celebrate on the 30th), so it would make sense for a studio like Lionsgate to put out lots of genre films to coincide with the spookiest of holidays, right? Wrong, because according to them, March is the new Halloween. Whatever that means.

There is a brand new teaser out for Season of the Witch, starring Ron Perlman, Stephen Campbell Moore (The Bank Job), Ulrich Thomsen (Hitman), and yes, Nic Cage. Also, don’t be surprised that a film about witches isn’t coming out around Halloween, because director Dominic Sena’s last film, Whiteout, sat on the shelf for nearly a year before a soft release.

Though October is considered a dead financial month for films, it was nice that the trailer tried to cover it up by proclaiming that “Halloween is for Amateurs.” March isn’t a much better time, but it »

IGN have posted the new trailer for Nicolas Cage’s Season of the Witch. Cage seems to have a new movie coming out every week but the usual question we have to ask whenever his name is attached to anything is, ‘is it any good?!’.

Season of the Witch is directed by Dominic Sena who has previously brought us Gone in Sixty Seconds and Swordfish. He’s recently directed Whiteout which starred Kate Beckinsale, cost $35m to make and has recouped $12m at the box office. Not great figures eh! We’ll have to see how this new movie gets on. Neil Marshall’s Centurion Continues to Look Utterly Badass

5 October 2009 10:51 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

If Louis Leterrier’s remake of “Clash of the Titans” is going to be big-budget Hollywood fun and adventure-heavy, Neil Marshall’s “Centurion” is going to be dark and brooding and violent as hell. Or at least, that’s what I’m guessing given the two men’s previous efforts. Leterrier just doesn’t seem to have the “grit” thing in him, while Marshall doesn’t do anything that doesn’t involve blood and guts and good guys doing very bad things in very bloody ways. Two new images from Marshall’s “Centurion” via Empire. Britain, A.D. 117. Quintus Dias, the sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus’ legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the Earth and destroy their leader, Gorlacon. Bier Wants 'Revenge' in Denmark

20 August 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- I guess there certainly is an advantage in being a filmmaker who works abroad and in the Hollywood/indewood system - when a project isn't moving quick enough, you pack your bags, jump on a plane and shoot a movie in your native tongue - which is what Susanne Bier is doing according to Variety. The trade reports the Working Title comedy with Hugh Grant project she was attached to fell apart. Known for her suffocating, unrelenting dramas I've been a fan of Bier's work since Dogme days, she'll be working once again with Anders Thomas Jensen (a prolific scribe who doesn't know what writer's block is) with whom she collaborated on Brothers amongst others. The Revenge stars Mikael Persbrandt and a pair of Danish actors in Trine Dyrholm and Ulrich Thomsen ho aren't afraid to get in touch with their feelings. The drama set in Kenya and Denmark »

Despite striking out with both audiences and critics Hitman managed to rake in over $100 million at the worldwide box-office on a modest $24 million budget, and thus Fox looks to be moving ahead with a sequel. According to the folks over at IESB, the studio has signed on Kyle Ward to write the script for the next installment of the action series. Apparently Ward is one of Hollywood’s “hottest, young writers”, having written the upcoming thriller Fiasco Heights and the video game adaptation Kane & Lynch. The first film, which was based on the popular video game franchise of the same name, centered on a gun-for-hire known only as Agent 47 who is hired by a group known as 'The Organization' which ultimately entangles him in a political conspiracy.
