The long-awaited premiere of Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender is less than a week away, and the first reactions to the series have been trickling out. After original creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante Dimartino exited the project in 2020 due to creative differences, fans were a little apprehensive, but it sounds like the streaming service has largely gotten it right, or, at the very least, it’s better than M. Night Shyamalan’s movie.
Our own Steve Seigh was a big fan, saying, “I had the pleasure of previewing the first seven episodes of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender for JoBlo.com and I’m thrilled to say that it’s fantastic! It’s full of outstanding performances, one-to-one shots from the original, and new elements to get excited about! I say this as a die-hard fan of the original animated series. I wholeheartedly love this version of the show.

Bad guys are always so much cooler than good. Even Bruce Willis at his badasserousest had to face against the likes of Alan Rickman. In Paradise Lost, the most entertaining and interesting character is Lucifer. And such is the case with Lee Tamahori's The Devil's Double, a biopic based on the life of Latif Yahia, an Iraqi soldier forced to live as the double of Uday Hussein. The depiction of Uday Hussein as this demonic imp, this gaptoothed wild monkey who snorts coke from knifepoint, steals schoolgirls off the streets of Baghdad to rape them, and parties to the Rhino Records Razor and Tie "Greaties of the Latey Eighties" soundtrack, is nothing short of mesmerizing. The film becomes this unholy amalgam of The Parent Trap and Scarface. It truly is a mob movie, with the big baddy daddy Saddam loping about like a porn-stachioed Tony Soprano while his unruly...

25 years on from Back To The Future, director Robert Zemeckis is returning to the time travel film with a new picture called Timeless…
As Back To The Future makes a triumphant return to cinemas in celebration of its quarter-century milestone, director Robert Zemeckis is reportedly returning to the theme of temporal travel for a new feature called Timeless.
His first live action feature since 2000's Cast Away (his previous three films, The Polar Express, Beowulf and A Christmas Carol, were computer-generated), Timeless has been described as a "big tent pole picture" by Deadline, and will be written by Mike Thomas, the screenwriter behind the little-seen 2002 Kevin Costner movie Dragonfly and the 2009 Jennifer Anniston/Aaron Eckhart romantic drama, Love Happens.
Having directed the out-and-out classic that is Back To The Future and its sequels, Zemeckis' decision to make another time travel-themed movie is a brave one. Regardless of plot or genre,...

The new remake of The A-Team will put a modern spin on a popular television series of the eighties, bringing nostalgic feelings to old fans of the show while introducing a new generation to one of their fathers' favorites. The A-Team is just the latest in a very long line of classic TV shows that have received a big screen makeover.
The appeal of these small-screen-to-big-screen revamps is twofold. One purpose is to recapture older audiences who grew up on classic TV and who may not go to the movies very often anymore, but the lure of seeing one of the shows they grew up with on a the silver screen might entice them to visit their local theater. The second advantage is that Hollywood executives always feel safer using proven ideas rather than gambling on new ones, hence the reason so many sequels are made.

The eighth annual Rondo Hatton Awards have come to pass, and we have all the results for you, including one winner who we're kind of shocked about ... us!
That's right, kids, your love has carried us over once again, and we're both proud and humbled to announce that Dread Central has won the Rondo Award for "Best Website". Honestly? We were honored just to have been nominated. Being up against twenty-nine other quality sites, we never thought we'd win. You guys have no idea how much this means to us as we've always considered the Rondos to be reserved only for the very best in our genre. To be revered as one of "those" for even just a fleeting moment is something we consider to be prestigious in the highest regard.
But make no mistake ... even though technically we are the actual recipients of it, this award belongs very much...

When I interviewed Berke Breathed a few years back, I asked him if there would finally by a comprehensive Bloom County collection like the recently available Calvin & Hobbes and Peanuts volumes. Breathed was dismissive of the idea, claiming that no one wanted to read the strip, that it was no longer relevant, and it just wasn’t going to happen. Well, a few years have gone by,...
