Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) never left Germany but became internationally respected by his peers during his lifetime and a symbol of pure musicianship for future generations. A virtuoso organist, harpsichordist, and violinist/violist who may have also played lute, as a composer his mastery of counterpoint and fugal writing remain unmatched, yet he was also open to the influences of contemporary Italian and French composers.
Born into a highly musical family in Eisenach, Germany, Bach became organist at the Neukirche in Arnstadt in 1703 at the age of 18. His first major appointment was as court organist to Duke Wilhelm Ernst of Weimar, in 1708; six years later the Duke made him Concertmaster. In 1717 Bach became Kapellmeister and music director to the music-loving Prince Leopold of Anhalt in Cöthen, where Bach wrote much of his greatest secular music. Bach's duties switched to writing choral and organ music for use in church services...

Disney has a knack for creating timeless characters for the big screen, and some of the most popular ones in their repertoire are their Princesses. These include classics like Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, and countless others. JefToon (aka Jeffrey Thomas) took it upon himself to remake these characters into something darker and much more twisted, and in my opinion has succeeded in that goal. You can catch the first set of his Twisted Princess series here, but since then he’s added quite a few more to the series, including his newest one starring Vanellope from Disney’s much loved hit Wreck it Ralph. Frankly its one of the coolest pieces of art I’ve seen in quite a while, and as with every one of these pieces it contains a wonderfully warped short story of how things got so bad, and most of these are pretty entertaining.

As expected, Warner Bros. is starting to give with the clips for Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit Part 1: An Unexpected Journey”. First up: Bilbo (Martin Freeman) gets his very first sword courtesy of Gandalf (Ian McKellen). He’s not too enthusiastic about a sword, though, being a peaceful hobbit and all. Then again, that sword has magical powers and such, so maybe he shouldn’t turn it down so fast… A curious Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a vigorous group of Dwarves to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug. “The Hobbit Part 1: An Unexpected Journey” also stars Richard Armitage, Ken Stott, Graham McTavish, William Kircher, James Nesbitt, Stephen Hunter, Rob Kazinsky, Aidan Turner, Peter Hambleton, John Callen, Jed Brophy, Mark Hadlow, Adam Brown, Cate Blanchett, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Jeffrey Thomas, Mike Mizrahi, Evangeline Lilly, and is directed by Peter Jackson.

Lost In Darkness by Jeffrey Thomas
(Bad Moon Books)
On Halloween night, fourteen-year-old Dana Tower is the victim of an accident that sends her to the brink of death—and beyond. She manages to survive her injuries, and returns to the realm of the living. Yet she doesn’t return alone. Hijacking their way into the mortal world are three malicious entities, Shadow Beings that hunger for the human soul. But a fourth and very different sort of entity crossed over along with the Shadow Beings, and he may be Dana Tower’s only chance to protect herself and her friends from being consumed by the darkness.
In Jeffrey Thomas’s latest effort “Lost In Darkness” from Bad Moon Books he again surprises me with the direction of this novel. What I love about Jeff is his ability and talent to change things up from book to book. He can...

There's something delicious about seeing the good girls go bad. Artist Jeffrey Thomas has a wicked gallery featuring several Disney babes as "dark" Princesses. Nothing like adding a little splash of horror to something sweet and innocent eh? Maybe this is a little unintentional foreshadowing of the Disney buyout of Marvel? Giving our fairy tale princesses a little horror twist! If you thought Princess Jasmin was hot before? Lol!

Up for some a new pic from Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit Part 1: An Unexpected Journey”? Good, because here’s one you haven’t seen before. If you were one of the few who watched The Hobbit trailer online yesterday, congratulations, you watched about two and half minutes worth of Peter Jackson’s genius. Translating text to film is no easy task, and fans were worried once again about if The Hobbit could be brought to life, even with all the financial problems that inflicted the film. But now we got our little movie, and an unexpected journey ahead of us. And I mean that in a good way. Martin Freeman will lead our dwarfs and everyone’s favorite wizard on an adventure of epic proportions.
So rather than find five things I disliked about the trailer, I will give you five reasons why you should like it or you can kick yourself into the fiery depths of Mordor.
5. Middle Earth still looks like Middle Earth
Not much has changed between 2003’s The Return of the King...

Some may not admit it, but we all love a good bit of Disney Princess art here on Cbm. We have seen em sexed up, mashed up with various Super-Heroes, drawn as real as possible etc. But I have never seem them shown in quite the same way as Jeffrey Thomas has here. The artwork is simply awesome, and I love the various "twisted" ways in which he has depicted each character. Also, I must not be as up on my princesses as I thought I was but who on Earth are Kidagakash and Tiana? up your game at Gambling Insider...

Beautiful Hell by Jeffrey Thomas
(Dark Regions Press)
Hades is in upheaval. The Damned are rebelling, and worse, the more human-like breeds of Demons are beginning to sympathize with their plight. The Creator Himself decides to venture into Hades to address this conflict, a conflict which may test His very sanity…and make him a target of assassination. Against this tense background, a Damned man named Frank Lyre and a beautiful winged Demon named Oni act out a passionate love affair, but they too will be swept into a battle that may decide the future of all Creation.
Beautiful Hell is set in the world of Jeffrey Thomas’s short story collection “Voices From Hades”, and the novels “The Fall of Hades” and “Letters From Hades.”
I have to say, I had no idea what to expect when I received “Beautiful Hell” from my good friends over at Dark Region Press.

Man, I don’t envy Peter Jackson directing these Middle Earth movies. They’re monstrous undertakings, to be sure. The only bright side is that he’s already done three of them in the past, and he’s probably learned a lot about shooting them, such as cutting the production into “blocks”. At the beginning of this second Production Diary for “The Hobbit”, they’ve already finished up the first block, with two more to go. The film stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Ken Stott, Graham McTavish, William Kircher, James Nesbitt, Stephen Hunter, Rob Kazinsky, Aidan Turner, Peter Hambleton, John Callen, Jed Brophy, Mark Hadlow, Adam Brown, Cate Blanchett, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Jeffrey Thomas, Mike Mizrahi, and is due out December 19, 2012. No doubt they’ll need all that extra time from production to release date for all the CGI this thing is going to need to get ready for consumption.

While many people (including me) only refer to The Lord of the Rings trilogy as… well, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the subtitles that they’re given are too good for schmucks like myself to disregard when the series is discussed. The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King carry the appropriate sense of epicness that the series requires, while having an important fantasy quality to them. Up until this point, I thought that both parts of The Hobbit would simply be called Part 1 and Part 2 - the movies are coming from one single book, so giving them unique subtitles seemed like an odd choice.
However, a press release says that we’ll be getting those with the two movies, and also manages to reveal their release dates. The first part will be titled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which will be seeing a release on December 14th,...

More pleasing than simply being titled ‘The Hobbit Part’s 1 & 2′ – New Line, MGM and Warner Bros have announced that “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” will officially bow on Dec. 14, 2012 and “The Hobbit: There And Back Again” comes a year later on Dec. 13th, 2013.
Both titles of course go straight back to J.R.R. Tolkien’s groundbreaking 1937 novel and in this writer’s opinion are very appropriate indeed.
An updated cast list (re-printed after the jump) went out with the press release and I believe it contains the first official mention of Christopher Lee returning as Saruman, who at this time in the story was beginning to plot the ring for himself and as we know by The Fellowship of the Ring, his great friend Gandalf was completely oblivious. Can’t wait to see how Jackson handles Lee in this movie and I’m just happy to see him in there as...

No word on the dragon, Smaug, as of yet. However, The Hobbit Blog posted this:
We receive a lot of questions about Smaug, and while it is a bit soon to let the dragon out of the bag, we can point you to this excellent bit of research by Forbes, which has just ranked Smaug in 7th place on the 2011 Forbes Fictional 15 ranking of the richest fictional characters.
As was first reported in the Hollywood Reporter, Andy Serkis, who played the iconic Gollum in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings, has been tapped by Jackson to serve as second unit director on the two Hobbit films, which are now in production in New Zealand. Serkis will, of course, also be reprising his role as Gollum in The Hobbit.

After a few false starts, a minor controversy here or there and a quick trip to the hospital for its director, filming on The Hobbit is finally underway (no, for real this time!). After eight years of countless trials & tribulations, Peter Jackson finally returns to The Shire today as cameras start rolling in New Zealand on The Hobbit. To celebrate what many of us thought we would never see, Jackson has released two images from Bilbo’s newly re-created home on the director’s facebook and I would bookmark and keep a keen eye on that link as Jackson will likely update regularly with all-revealing updates as he did for the King Kong production diaries.
The two part Lord of the Rings prequel epic has been plagued with financial troubles, lawsuits, director departures and even a health scare for the director resulting in surgery for a perforated stomach ulcer, but whilst the leaner and much healthier Jackson looks to have lost his large appetite for food, I’m betting he’s lost none of his hunger for the Tolkien universe.
