More details on the War Machine of "Iron Man 2" have been spilled. Dropping by MTV recently, Sam Rockwell who will be seen as Justin Hammer in the "Iron Man" sequel gave an interesting scoop on the relationship between his Tony Stark's rival character and Don Cheadle's Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes.
Of the two characters' alliance, the 40-year-old actor said, "Don and I, we're working together. He works with me in spite of some of my personality flaws." Calling Hammer "a bit of a shark" in explaining the "personality flaws" remark, he then detailed that "Don's character, Rhodey, needs to work with me. He has no choice. So we team up and we build this fabulous War Machine."
Asked further whether his character might take advantage of the opportunity to try the War Machine armor on, the actor who voiced Darwin in "G-Force" stated that he has no chance to do so. »

Back in April we reported on news from the Sony ShoWest presentation that the studio was developing a script for a third Men in Black movie, something which built on the rumors from over a year ago that franchise stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were interested in suiting up for some alien escapades once more. Fast forward to now and an update has come out that Men In Black 3 has found its writer in the form of Tropic Thunder screenwriter, Etan Cohen (not to be confused with one half of the famous Coen brothers, Ethan).
Variety is reporting that Columbia Pictures (which Sony owns) has tapped Cohen to pen the script, but beyond that no deals have been made for either Smith or Jones to reprise their roles. Although I’d be very surprised if the studio didn’t have talks going on with the two stars »

As we've previously discussed, Justin Theroux's career has taken [1] off [2] after writing Tropic Thunder, and the film's other screenwriter Etan Cohen also seems to be similarly in demand. We heard earlier this year that Men in Black 3 was definitely in development [3], but now according to Variety [4], Columbia Pictures have taken the first step toward making it a reality by hiring Cohen to pen the script. Etan Cohen is a former Mike Judge collaborator, having written for Beavis & Butthead and King of the Hill, in addition to co-writing the screenplay for Judge's Idiocracy. He was also working on the currently shelved Will Ferrell/Sacha Baron Cohen Sherlock Holmes comedy, and the upcoming Candy Land board game movie. So, is this a good thing? And will Cohen be able to come up with a script that is strong enough to convince Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones to sign on for Mib 3? Let's hope so, »

A progress has been made in the development of "Men in Black 3" with the hiring of a writer. The Hollywood Reporter (THR)'s Risky Biz Blog reported that one of the "Tropic Thunder" screenwriters, Etan Cohen, has been brought on board by Sony Pictures to work on the script to the latest installment of the sci-fi comedy series.
THR claimed that the studio has the intention "to continue the franchise's top-tier status" with the addition of Cohen. The latest writer brought to the "Mib" franchise, Cohen is reported to be "deep into his draft" for the third movie. Ed Solomon wrote the script for the first "Mib", and Robert Gordon and Barry Fanaro for the second one.
The scribe aside, the publication suggested that Barry Sonnenfeld, the director of the first two "Mib" is attached to the new film. Still, it noted that no formal deal or offer has been made just yet. »

Robert here, continuing my series of the directors that shaped the past 10 years (Enjoy the first two installments on Scorsese and Bahrani) . The most important directors of the past 10 years aren’t always the most prolific, though this series will require a director to have released at least 2 films. Not to mention some of those featured here may be love ‘em or hate ‘em choices. Something tells me, this weeks entry is one such man: David Lynch.
Number of Films: Two.
Modern Masterpieces: I’m going to go ahead and suggest that both Mulholland Dr. and Inland Empire qualify.
Total Disasters: Though you may feel that both Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire fall here.
Better than you remember: And if you do think that, may I suggest you place them here.
Awards: Nominated for a Best Director Oscar for Mulholland Drive. Won Best Director in Cannes for that same film. »

As I mentioned in a post a couple of days ago [1], there have been a ton of documentaries related to heavy metal lately, and one that sort of fits into that category as well is Alexandra Lipsitz's Air Guitar Nation. Documenting the Us and World Air Guitar Championships from a few years back, the movie is more about performance art than music specifically, but either way it's a lot of fun. Now it looks like the documentary is about to be brought to a wider audience as part of a fictional comedy as well. According to THR's Risky Business Blog [2], Tropic Thunder writer Justin Theroux has signed on to produce a movie for Paramount called simply Air Guitar, set in the world of competitive air guitar. He will not actually be the one writing the script however; those duties will fall to Mike Lisbe and Nate Reger (Just Shoot Me! »

If you've ever held witness to an "air guitar" competition, then you will undoubtedly share in my excitement for this next story. In early 2007, I had the honor of catching Alexandra Lipsitz's ferociously entertaining documentary Air Guitar Nation (read my review) during its extremely limited theatrical run. Later that year, fellow Fat Guy at the Movies Kevin Carr and I attended a regional air guitar competition in Columbus, Ohio and met Dan Crane (aka rocker Bjorn Turoque, pictured above with David "C-Diddy" Jung), one of the stars of the doc. It was an energetic, rockin' affair that has stuck with me ever since. So much so that earlier this year, I decided that the most rockin' double feature of all-time would be a double-bill of Air Guitar Nation and this year's sensation Anvil! The Story of Anvil. Trust me, that two-some of rock odysseys would blow your mind. I tell you that story to tell you »

Tropic Thunder producer Justin Theroux has joined up with Paramount to produce the comedy flick Air Guitar.
Inspired by recent looks at air guitar, including the documentary Air Guitar Nation and the book To Air is Human, the movie will be a humorous take on world of competitive air guitar (yes, there is such a thing).
Mike Lisbe and Nate Reger will be writing the script for Paramount, and while no specific plot has been revealed yet, the movie will likely follow the classic theme of underdog-rising-to-fame.
Air Guitar still has a ways to go before it can hit production, but hopefully as more is revealed about the film it continues to sound as entertaining as it does just as a concept.

Now this sounds like a very fun project. Earlier in the week it was announced (via the Risky Biz Blog) that actor/writer Justin Theroux (who last produced Tropic Thunder) would be signing on to produce Air Guitar, a story set in the competitive world of air guitar. The comedy was originally based on and inspired by the popular documentary Air Guitar Nation and the book To Air Is Human written by Dan Crane, who plays under the name Bjorn Turoque. Paramount has now brought on up-and-coming writers Mike Lisbe and Nate Reger ("Just Shoot Me!", "Teachers") to pen the script with Theroux producing and developing. Theroux is not considering directing or acting in Air Guitar at this time, which means this still needs a director. It was originally a DreamWorks project, but it ended up at Paramount once the studios split. In regards to the story, I'm pretty sure »

Deny it all you want in public, but there is not a man nor woman amongst us who can say they have never picked up that holy instrument that is the air guitar. Whether you do it for a second and then put it away in shame or you spaz out like an epileptic every time you here a great solo, air guitar is like the force: it binds the universe together. Unfortunately, the act still has a social stigma, but now crusader Justin Theroux, writer of Tropic Thunder, is going to make us face our demons. According to Reuters, Theroux has signed on to produce a film not based on bedroom antics, but rather the competitive world of air guitar, which is apparently a real thing. The script will be written by Mike Lisbe and Nate Reger (who have two episodes of Just Shoot Me and one episode of »

I feel like Justin Theroux is becoming some kind of muse to the masses, gently introducing them to the offbeat and cool before moving onto something else. The majority of American moviegoers probably don't know his name, but they feel his influence. Someday, every man in America will start wearing fedoras again, and not really know why. The reason will be Theroux. But first, he plans to hook everyone on Air Guitar, and introduce the masses to the offbeat world that cherishes the talent.
Variety reports that Theroux has signed on to produce Paramount's Air Guitar, a story centered around the self-consciously ironic world of air guitar championships. The project has been in the works at Paramount since 2006 or so, and is cobbled together from the 2006 documentary Air Guitar Nation and Dan Crane's book To Air Is Human. Screenwriting duties originally belonged to Ian Roberts and Jay Martel, but »

I got a fever, and the only prescription is...more air guitar. It's really not, but it's happening anyway. Justin Theroux (writer, director, all around bad-ass) is producing a movie titled Air Guitar. The film will be set in the world of air guitar competitions and feature the colorful characters that participate in them. This is definitely not a documentary, as there was already one in 2006 called Air Guitar Nation. Guitar is being penned by Nate Reger and Mike Lisbe. Both writers have... »

While "Iron Man 2" has been said to pick up Tony Stark's love triangle story, the superhero movie will still primarily focus on the relationship between the man in iron armor and Pepper Potts. During the "Couples Retreat" press junket in Bora Bora, director Jon Favreau laid bare Tony's love life in this "Iron Man" sequel to MTV.
"I think the central relationship is still those two characters," the 42-year-old opened up. "It's still Pepper and Tony." He then continued to explain the part female fatale Natasha Romanoff has in the film. "We introduce Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and she has a dual identity," he said, "so that ends up affecting both the superhero side of things and the personal side of things - as I think all good superhero plotlines do."
As for the inclusion of War Machine, Favreau had this to say, "Then we have Don Cheadle. »

French channel CanalPlus has visited the set of the much awaited "Iron Man 2", and made available the set visit video for viewing pleasure. The nearly eight minutes video goes to inspect the workshop of Tony Stark aka Iron Man with director Jon Favreau being on hand to explain the upgrades the filming team has done to the room and what new invention Stark is working on.
Aside from providing the tour around the workshop, the video also presents the filmmaker talking about this "Iron Man" sequel, specifically on why making it is easier than bringing the first one to the big screen, and on adding Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson. It also offers commentaries from star Robert Downey Jr. on the difficulty of making "Iron Man 2" for him among other things.

Universal Studios has released synopses for some of their major 2010 films and the two that are especially worth reading are “MacGruber” and Ridley Scott’s “Untitled Robin Hood Adventure”. While it might surprise you to hear this, a few people have told me “MacGruber” is going to shock everyone next year as it’s a super-violent, hard-r movie. Also, I’ve heard there are many lines that we’re all going to quote. Did I mention Val Kilmer plays the villain and his name is Dieter Von Cunth? I know, I know–I am just as shocked to report SNL’s “MacGruber” might be a great movie.
As for Ridley Scott’s “Untitled Robin Hood Adventure”, this synopsis is the first real story details I’m hearing about the plot. Since I haven’t watched every version of “Robin Hood”, I’ll let the synopses do the talking, but I »

Sam Rockwell was out promoting his new film Gentlemen Broncos so reporters took the time to ask him a few questions…about Iron Man 2 of course. About playing Tony Stark’s competitor, Justin Hammer, in the upcoming film Rockwell said: He’s a rival of Tony’s – they are competitors in the weapons industry. I team up with Mickey Rourke and we decide we want to take him down and take down the Stark legacy. He’s sort of like a cousin of the Charlie’s Angels character I played. The smarmy cousin. But it’s Mickey – he does the fighting and the kicking ass in the film.”
Alright, I know a lot of you read Charlie’s Angels and had a giant collective groan. However, the first Angels film wasn’t that bad (Did I just lose some geek cred by admitting that?) but more specifically Rockwell turned in a great performance. »

Entertainment Tonight (Et) has just brought forth another set visit video for "Iron Man 2". Focusing mainly on Mickey Rourke and his villainous character, Whiplash, the two minutes plus footage from the set of the highly anticipated "Iron Man" sequel features commentary from director Jon Favreau and fellow cast members, Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle.
"Once we thought of him, we started developing the costume and the design of the character around him," Favreau told Et's Thea Andrews on the casting of Rourke. "His career got very busy as he was doing all the award season stuff and it took some time to make everything work out, but he was enthusiastic from our first meeting. And, I was so glad that it worked out. Now he's a very formidable adversary to Robert Downey Jr."
Downey Jr. also shared his thought on the joining of the star of "The Wrestler". He said, »

Beside Whiplash, Tony Stark will have another foe known by the name of Justin Hammer to be taken care of in "Iron Man 2", and Sam Rockwell, the actor taking on the role, has described his baddie character to IGN. "He's a rival of Tony's - they are competitors in the weapons industry," Rockwell shared when promoting "Gentlemen Broncos" at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas.
Explaining the relationship between Hammer and Whiplash, the 40-year-old said, "I team up with Mickey Rourke and we decide we want to take him down and take down the Stark legacy." He then compared the baddie to his "Charlie's Angel" character Eric Knox, saying "He's sort of like a cousin of the Charlie's Angels character I played. The smarmy cousin. But it's Mickey - he does the fighting and the kicking ass in the film."
Asked what would be different for "Iron Man" sequel, Rockwell responded by promising more actions. »
