The likes of King Barrett and Neville are impressing in the WWE right now but the history of British wrestling goes back much further than the occasional breakthroughs in Connecticut.
Audiences of 18 million people watched World of Sport at its peak and enjoyed some of the most fascinating characters in the history of the sport.
Perhaps the most remarkable was Les Kellett. "He was never the top man, but he was always the one people talked about and the one people wanted to see," screenwriter and director Harvey Auzorst tells us, explaining how his film Kellett came to be in development.
Impressed by the script for Auzorst's Blackpool-based Rat Pack Sands, wrestling legend and current Nxt general manager William Regal vouched for Auzorst among the famously close-knit British wrestling community.

Dr Who comics have been around for quite some time, with Who comic strips going back as far as the 1960′s. I have happy memories of reading Dr Who Weekly from Marvel in the early 1980′s, and always felt the Doctor was a natural character for the comic book form. Until recently the TV show adventures of the good Doctor were usually hampered by poor special effects (I grew up assuming most planets looked like chalk quarries), whereas in comics, you have an unlimited special effects budget. To work at his best, the Doctor needs that.
Now Titan Comics have taken on the job of publishing the new adventures of the Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth incarnations of the Doctor. This particular volume collects together the first ever comic book adventures of the Peter Capaldi Twelfth Doctor,...

We were won over by Titan Comics' Tenth Doctor and Eleventh Doctor comics when they arrived in July, offering a thoroughly well written and beautifully illustrated return to the world of the previous Doctor Who incarnations that felt just like episodes of the television show, only with bigger and better-looking monsters.
Our chief criticism was their initial scope - both located on Earth in relatively parochial settings. Comics offer an easy chance to transcend BBC budgetary constraints, and with Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #1, big budget is just what we get.
Part one of the story 'Terrorforming', by writer Robbie Morrison (Nikolai Dante), artist Dave Taylor (Judge Dredd) and colourist Hi-Fi, takes Peter Capaldi's Doctor and companion Clara (Jenna Coleman) to a distant ice world which turns out to be far less icy than they had expected. What they discover is a tropical terraforming project going awry and...

After reviewing Wytches #1 last week, I got an email from Nerdly editor Phil Wheat along the lines off “how would you like to review Titan Comics stuff for me?”. Eventually I calmed down enough to reply, and here I am reviewing a much looked forward to issue of Doctor Who. More importantly, the first issue for Peter Capaldi’s incarnation.
The story starts with the Doctor and Clara going off to the frozen planet of Isen VI so she can learn to ski and he can sit inside and drink Bovril. However, when they there they find the Isen VI is now a tropical jungle, terraformed by the filthy rich Kano Dollar to impress his wife-to-be and off course, people in power for as yet unknown reasons. But it soon transpires that what’s behind the terraforming is...

For decades, Britain has been known across the world for producing some truly great wrestlers. Although just a small island nation with a population of 60 million, the worldwide impact of British stars has been profound. I have previously stated, when appearing on the Bwc British Wrestling Roundup show on Challenge TV here in the UK, that I genuinely believe that British wrestlers are the best in the world. When you consider our nation’s small size and the number of Brits who have made a global impression on the wrestling world, compared to the size of other wrestling countries, it is an excellent rate ‘per capita’. The British style, technical and mat based, has become slightly diluted as the American influence has crossed the Atlantic over the past two decades, but it has enjoyed a renaissance to a degree through the popularity of some of the wrestlers listed in this article.

A former Deal or No Deal contestant has admitted to six counts of benefit fraud.
Caroline Banana, 40, won £95,000 on the Channel 4 game show in 2011.
However, she did not declare her winnings in official forms, and continued to claim income support, housing benefit and council tax benefit.
Prosecutor Trevor Vernon told North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court: "The trigger to the whole episode was Miss Banana completing an income support application on April 12, 2011.
"To the question, 'Is there money owed to you or your children?' she ticked 'no' on that form.
"This was quite clearly not the case because in March that year she won the £95,000 and was awaiting payment of that money and that payment was due in May."
Banana had claimed a total of £6,147.92 in payments that she was not entitled to between April 8, 2011 and March 23, 2012.
Judge David Taylor ordered a pre-sentence report on Banana, ahead of passing sentence...

Screen Australia says it has not mismanaged its finances by spending its annual production funding in just six months - a state of affairs which it says reflects the strength of the local film industry.
The government screen agency revealed in mid-December 2012 that it had spent its entire annual $42 million drama production allocation due to the unprecedented number of quality feature film and television projects seeking support. The shock announcement was reminiscent of the agency's abrupt decision to cut its investment cap in 2009 while several films were mid-financed. That decision.threw several major Australian productions into dissaray including The Tree and the biggest box office hit of.2010, Tomorrow When the War Began (Omnilab Media had to increase its investment at the last minute to ensure production).
Overspending on such a scale has never occurred before, even going back to the era of Screen Australia.s predecessor funding arm, the Film Finance Corporation.

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.
Shall we see who is the fariest of them all? Oh indeedy, let’s do!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

Dread Central recently caught up with director, musician, screenwriter, and actor Creep Creepersin - the man behind such B-feature romps as Orgy of Blood and Vaginal Holocaust - to find out what he’s been up to, and it seems that the historically prolific amount of macabre material leaking from his sleeve hasn’t ebbed one bit given his current productions.
“I’m doing Brides of Sodom with Domiziano Arcangeli’s new company, Empire Films, and Sterling Entertainment,” Creepersin, who’s currently shooting the flick over the course of eight days in Southern California, told us. “This is one of the biggest projects that Sterling or myself have had anything to do with. It’s a post-apocalyptic vampire film. We are shooting on two Reds and trying to come up with some weird trick photography shit. It’s gonna be a lot like Orgy of Blood but a little bit more like an Argento-dream sequence.

Meg: Hell’S Aquarium by Steve Alten (Variance, hc, 342 pp, $27.95)
For this fourth novel in his blood-drenched Meg saga, Alten brings us not just one live Carcharodon megalodon, the giant, prehistoric antecedent of today’s Great White Shark, but Seven of them: Angel, her ex-mate Scarface, their five daughters (Belle, Lizzy, Mary Kate, Ashley, Angelica). That’s one hungry horde. Alten also serves up a large cast of lunchable humans—many named after die-hard fans of his books who nabbed this honor in website contests by promising to promote Alten’s work. That’s marketing genius! However, a slight silliness does set in whenever Alten introduces a “character” and we get a graph recounting their (presumably true) background—and then they die two pages later or we otherwise never hear of them again.
