To fans of Bollywood, even the most casual ones, actor-producer-director Aamir Khan needs no introduction. He is one of Indian cinema's most popular actors, and consequently, he is also one of the biggest stars in the world. Here in the United States, he is perhaps still best known to foreign film fans as the star and producer of the extremely successful 2001 release Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India, the first feature shepherded by Khan's production company, Aamir Khan Productions. Khan isn't known for doing a tremendous amount of interviews, so the opportunity to speak with him recently was one that I jumped at. Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan.s production .Peepli Live., which has created an unprecedented buzz despite being a non-commercial movie, has got a mixed start at the ticket windows in terms of advance bookings both in metros and small centres..The advance is nothing good considering that it has no star cast. We have sold only 20 percent of weekend tickets, but we are expecting a bumper weekend because of a trustworthy name like Aamir Khan,. Amit Awasthi, senior manager (Programming and Operations) of Spice Cinemas, told Ians.A source from PVR cinemas said: .The advance is okay but nothing like an Aamir starrer. We are getting a lot of bulk bookings from corporate offices, but on small-scale basis it is yet to pick momentum. Apart from metros, the booking is okay at small centres like Allahabad, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Indore and Ludhiana..Directed by debutant Anusha Rizvi, .Peepli Live. puts the spotlight...

Coming Aug. 13 to theaters in Los Angeles and New York, "Peepli Live" is the directorial debut of Indian journalist-turned-filmmaker Anusha Rizvi. It tells the tale of Natha, an Indian farmer who plans to kill himself in order to reap the benefits of a government program that will compensate his family for his death. However, when the press finds out, Natha and his family are descended upon by the media, as well as the local and national governments, all of whom wish to manipulate his story for their own ends. While chronicling the very real and serious issue of farmer suicides—a problem that has grown at an abysmal rate over the last 20 years—the film is also incredibly funny and as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. It was produced by Indian superstar actor Aamir Khan ("Ghajini," "3 Idiots"), who recently took the time to talk to Back Stage about the film,...
