Sometimes the past just won’t let you go. In Netflix’s “Dead Boy Detectives,” ghosts wreak havoc and reckon with unfinished business, and it’s up to Edwin Payne (George Rextrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) to help them move on. The best friends are also a formidable detective agency where Edwin provides “the brains” and Charles provides “the brawn.”

After spending decades in development hell, a live-action adaptation of the Neil Gaiman comic book series The Sandman actually made it into production and was released into the world as a Netflix series in August of 2022. (Read our review Here.) Season 2 of the show went into production last year, then had to be put on pause for a while due to the writers and actors strikes. Thankfully, The Sandman season 2 was able to resume production as soon as those strikes came to an end – and now, during an interview with Collider, cast member Kirby Howell-Baptiste has confirmed that the new episodes will bring more Death to the screen. Death being the character she plays on the show.
Of course, it wouldn’t be difficult for the new season to feature “more Death,” since Death was only in one episode of the first season. But Howell-Baptiste said that in addition to being present in more episodes,...

Andrew Garfield spoke to an audience rich in Spider-Man fans about his career at the Red Sea Film Festival Thursday, sitting alongside Saudi producer and Red Sea Film Foundation CEO Mohammed Al Turki. The two have known each other since Garfield starred in Ramin Bahrani’s 2014 drama “99 Homes,” which Al Turki produced. “I’m currently out of work,” Garfield quipped. “So I’m just here to talk to Mo really.”
“I’m 40 years old now and I still get absolutely petrified,” Garfield said. “I have terrible impostor syndrome. I didn’t know it was a viable option to be an actor. I loved being an athlete. I hated school. I wasn’t strong enough to be a rugby player. It was my mother who suggested I look at doing something creative.”

Andrew Garfield shared insights into his early days in Hollywood, experiences working on the Spider-Man franchise and thoughts about Red Sea International Festival Festival during his masterclass at the festival today.
He shared the stage with Saudi producer and Red Sea Film Foundation head Mohammed Al Turki, an old friend whom he’d worked with on indie feature 99 Homes in 2014. Directed by Iranian-us filmmaker Ramin Bahrani, 99 Homes was set during the recession period of the late 2000s when many Americans were losing their homes.
“It was an interesting group of us making that film,” Garfield remembered. “There was Ramin who was an American filmmaker but of a very different cultural heritage, then Mo of Saudi heritage and me of English heritage. So there was this melting pot bunch of people who felt maybe like they were outsiders in a certain way, telling a story about what it is to be an outsider.

Gwendoline Christie is always a formidable, striking presence on screen. Most recently, she starred alongside Jenna Ortega in Netflix's "Wednesday" as Larissa Weems, the principal of Nevermore Academy where Ortega's titular heroine goes to school. Before that, Christie appeared as Lucifer in the streamer's "The Sandman" series, which was renewed last fall. Fans, of course, first fell in love with her as the greatest knight in Westeros, Ser Brienne of Tarth, in "Game of Thrones," and she brought her sword-fighting skills to outer space for the Star Wars sequel trilogy, where she played Captain Phasma. And while her acting chops are top-notch, there's another reason Christie makes such an impact in everything she appears in: her incredibly tall height.
How tall is Christie? The 44-year-old actor clocks in at 6'3" (191 centimeters in the metric system). Her "Wednesday" costars really help emphasize her height, too: Ortega and Christina Ricci...

Pop the cork and celebrate Haley Bennett in Widow Clicquot, a fast-paced and sexy biopic of the woman known as Madame “Veuve” Clicquot, or by her actual full name, Barbe Nicole Ponsardin-Clicquot, who triumphed over all odds to become the force that created and brought to the world the leading brand of champagne. The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.
Serving as a producer with her Cyrano director Joe Wright (along with Christina Weiss Lurie), and taking on the title role, Bennett anchors a plush and gorgeous period film set against the vineyards in France circa 1800, with a story that begins with Barbe Nicole at age 26, widowed by the sudden tragic death of her husband Francois Clicquot (Tom Sturridge) who, though manic and excitable, managed to build a dream of a vineyard and the creation of a new champagne and was joined by his wife and mother of their daughter in the quest.

The first thing we learn at the start of Thomas Napper’s Widow Clicquot is that Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot (Haley Bennett) loved her husband François (Tom Sturridge). The second thing we learn is that the vineyard that held his name was synonymous with himself. Not just in death––as the film begins with Barbe dressing for his funeral––but in life too. It is where he spent all his time. Where he welcomed his new wife into every breath he took. And where he will live on in her memory as she preserves the vines to ensure he’s never forgotten.
To say all this would suggest the film is about François. That he permeates every single moment, however, is less about his impact on the world than his impact on her. It’s Barbe who left a mark: she’s the one who revolutionized the champagne industry during Napoleon’s trade embargoes,...

The last time Haley Bennett starred in a gloriously romantic period piece, it was Joe Wright’s daring musical re-imagining of “Cyrano de Bergerac,” 2021’s “Cyrano.” She’s back in lavish gowns and rapturously beautiful settings in “Widow Clicquot,” Thomas Napper’s ode to (in no particular order) champagne, doomed romance and girl power. If it’s neither as bold nor as swooning as “Cyrano,” it does provide additional evidence that Bennett slips easily into the 19th century as both an object of beauty and a force of nature.
The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it is one of a number of wildly varied films in which women claim power that had been denied to them in patriarchal societies. But the gender-driven power struggles in “Widow Clicquot” are in some ways the most conventional part of the film, which can soar in one...

‘Widow Clicquot’ Review: Haley Bennett in Champagne Biopic with More Personal Than Professional Fizz
Like the elixirs that Barbe-Nicole (Haley Bennett) so carefully tends to at her vineyard, Widow Clicquot takes time to come into its fullest potential. Initially, it appears a sticky-sweet tale of love, as manifested by its heroine’s determination to carry on the vision of her late husband François (Tom Sturridge). But it takes on added layers as Barbe-Nicole reveals the breadth of her ambition, and as her rosy recollections of her marriage give way to thornier ones — ultimately yielding a drama that feels more substantive than its 89-minute run time might suggest, if not quite rich enough to leave its own lasting legacy.
Rooted in the history behind the still-renowned champagne Veuve Clicquot, Widow Clicquot arrives amid a bumper crop of biopics about brands. Like most of the others, it’s not exactly a commercial, but does have the PR-friendly side effect of bolstering the company’s image.

The Girl’s star, Sienna Miller, is pregnant with her second child.
Miller was seen taking a vacation in Ibiza wearing a brown bikini, as photographers noticed her large baby bump.
Last year, she revealed that she froze her eggs when she turned 40 years old to avoid the “pressure” of having more children.
“Biology is incredibly cruel on women in that decade – that’s the headline, or it certainly was for me,” she told Elle UK. “Then I got to 40 and I froze some eggs. Having been really focused on the need to have another baby, I’m just like, if it happens, it happens. That kind of existential threat has dissipated.”
Before enjoying the beach in Ibiza, she was spotted with her 26-year-old boyfriend, Oli Green, in St. Tropez.

A situation like this hasn’t happened in Hollywood since 1960. As we already know, the Writers Guild of America has been on strike since May 2, and two and a half months later, there are still zero signs that the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) are close to reaching a new, fair deal.
Although the Directors Guild of America (DGA) came to an agreement with AMPTP about a new contract last month, the same can’t be said for Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA), who decided to go on strike starting on July 13. For the first time since 1960, both the writers and actors are collectively on strike, which basically freezes the entire Hollywood industry as we know it.
Apart from a few productions like ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘Dune: The Sisterhood,’ which are hiring mostly British actors who aren’t part of the strike, every...

Gwendoline Christie has had another great year on television, with scene-stealing turns in both drama and comedy series. After appearing in Netflix’s acclaimed adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s “The Sandman,” the “Game of Thrones” star was featured in another Netflix hit, the widely popular “Wednesday.”
“The Sandman” follows Tom Sturridge as Morpheus, the personification of dreams who escapes from an occult ritual after 106 years and tries to re-establish his realm, the Dreaming. Christie plays Lucifer Morningstar, the ruler of Hell, and the show’s iteration of the Devil. Tom Ellis‘ “Lucifer” took a more liberal approach in its adaptation of Gaiman’s character, but Christie’s iteration is far closer to the version found in Gaiman’s original work.
Episode four features a scene wherein Morpheus visits hell and talks with Lucifer. It’s a fantastic example of Christie’s portrayal of the devil, as she turns any preconceptions...

Season 1 of Netflix's "The Sandman" wasn't quite the great Neil Gaiman adaptation some of the storyteller's fans have been waiting for. It nevertheless set the series (which is far from strictly a fantasy drama) on the path to becoming the next best thing to reading Gaiman's original comics. That it was able to stay faithful to the spirit of its source material while including some welcome modifications -- some of which, admittedly, were more superficial than others in the way they modernize the "Sandman" universe -- is all the more reason to remain hopeful about the show's future.
Of course, it also helps that Gaiman's earlier "Sandman" comic books (which formed the basis of season 1) are generally agreed to be the weakest of the lot, compared to what comes after. With the best of the saga of Morpheus still on the horizon, fans have been...

Andrew Garfield and Eddie Redmayne had a hard time pulling it together at the 2023 SAG Awards. The longtime friends reunited at the award show in Los Angeles on Feb. 26, laughing while posing for photos on the red carpet. At one point, Redmayne cracked Garfield up as he appeared to make some sort of cheeky remark while pointing his finger.
The actors have been friends since before they were famous. Redmayne actually lived with Jamie Dornan early on in his career, and Garfield was a frequent visitor, along with Robert Pattinson, Charlie Cox, and Tom Sturridge. Exclusive: WME Independent has unveiled the first image of Haley Bennett in the upcoming 19th Century champagne drama Clicquot ahead of launching sales on the title at the European Film Market.
Bennett stars in the titular role of Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot, who is popularly known in France as the “Grande Dame of Champagne”.
This real-life historic figure defied convention to take over her late husband’s fledgling wine business in Reims in 1805 after being widowed at the age of 27.

2022 has been an extraordinary year for television. The pandemic forced many shows down to shorter schedules or Zoom-based episodes in 2020, which had lasting effects well into 2021, but this year feels almost like a roaring television comeback. There were so many great shows this year that I genuinely had a difficult time narrowing the list down to just 20 entries. We have been blessed with a wealth of excellent entertainment from regular networks, cable, and streaming, and now it's time to celebrate (and rank) the best of the best.
This has been an especially great year for genre TV, with an abundance of extraordinary new science fiction, fantasy, and horror shows, plus terrific new seasons from returning favorites like "What We Do in the Shadows" and "The Boys." There were so many good shows that I had to leave out some greats, like "Star Trek: Lower Decks," "Mythic Quest," and "The White Lotus.

“I’m someone that prefers to react to what’s in front of me, rather than going out with an aspiration or ambition of what I could play,” reveals Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne in our recent webchat. He plays serial killer Charles Cullin in “The Good Nurse,” which made its Netflix debut on October 26. “This script arrived in my hands six years ago and I knew [director Tobias Lindholm‘s] work. When I read the script it had the label of true crime, but as it unraveled it seemed almost genre-less. It refused to be boxed.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

“The Sandman” is a “fascinating project” to work on, reveals costume designer Sarah Arthur in Gold Derby’s Meet the Experts panel. The Netflix series is based on the DC Comics written by Neil Gaiman, and stars Tom Sturridge as the titular supernatural character who goes by the names Lord Morpheus and Dream. “We covered everything” in terms of genres, Arthur tells us, from Victorian to contemporary to fantasy to horror, etc. “It was all intermingled in each episode, so it was a huge task but fantastic from a costume designer’s point of view.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
