Everyone seems to have a personal story about Paul Reubens, aka Pee-wee Herman. And those stories seem always to revolve around birthdays. I didn’t know Reubens, but apparently half of the people on my Facebook timeline did, because they’re all sharing memories about the lengths Reubens would go to every year to celebrate their big day.
“He loved to make your birthday special,” wrote Joel Stillerman, the former MTV and AMC exec who played a role in helping “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” get made, and later worked with him on the film “Blow.” “The texts, memes, videos and gifs would start in the morning and continue all day until you were in tears, and disbelief that anyone could pull this off. Because you knew that it wasn’t just you.”
Quite honestly, seeing the number of people just on my social media timeline who have a similar Paul Reubens story...

How does Reese Witherspoon find time to breathe? Because the 43-year-old actress has so, so may projects in the works. In addition to starring in and executive producing Big Little Lies alongside Nicole Kidman, as well as an upcoming Apple TV series with Jennifer Aniston, the actress is teaming up with yet another powerhouse star: Kerry Washington. The women are currently shooting a limited series based on Celeste Ng's widely popular bestseller, Little Fires Everywhere. While a premiere date is likely still far, far in the future, here's what we know.
What Is Little Fires Everywhere About?
The novel takes place in a wealthy Ohio community in the '90s and hinges around a falling out between two families: the Warrens and the Richardsons. Witherspoon's character, Elena, is the uptight matriarch of the latter, which is a picture-perfect, all-American family that includes her lawyer husband and their four high school-age kids.

Heather Moosnick is joining Hulu as senior VP of content partnerships, exiting YouTube’s content team after more than five years where she most recently led the programming-deals team for YouTube TV.
At Hulu, Moosnick will oversee the streaming provider’s content acquisition strategy for live TV and on-demand programming, spanning full library series and movies to current network TV shows as well as “emerging content opportunities,” according to the company.
Her hiring comes five months after CEO Randy Freer reorganized Hulu’s content teams as part of a broader management shakeup. With the exit of chief content officer Joel Stillerman and elimination of the Cco position, Hulu’s content team was split into two groups: Senior VP of content Craig Erwich continues to run originals and also manages relationships with creators, producers and studios; now Moosnick will head the group that handles content licensing and acquisitions.
Moosnick is set to join Hulu on Nov.

Heather Moosnick has been named Svp, Content Partnerships, for Hulu. She will spearhead Hulu’s content acquisitions across live and on-demand programming — from full library series and movies to current network TV shows and emerging content. Moosnick, who most recently oversaw content partnerships for Google’s YouTube TV and Google Fiber, will start November 12 and will report to Hulu CEO Randy Freer.
Hulu’s original content and acquisitions were originally together in a single content operation, first overseen by Svp Content Craig Erwich and then, when both areas grew, especially originals, under Chief Content Officer Joel Stillerman. In the June restructuring when Stillerman exited, the two areas were separated. The content business was reorganized into two groups: original programming, overseen by Svp Original Content Erwich, and a content partnerships group, which was initially without a leader. Hulu announced today an executive overhaul that includes the departure of content chief Joel Stillerman, as the company restructures around four new divisions: subscribers, technology, content, and advertising.
To that end, Stillerman, who joined Hulu as chief content officer last June, is departing the company amid two new hires. Dan Phillips has been named chief technology officer and Jaya Kolhatkar has been named chief data officer -- a newly-created role.
Stillerman formerly served as the programming head at AMC, where he developed The Walking Dead and Better Caul Saul. At Hulu, he was instrumental in greenlighting George Clooney’s Catch-22 limited series adaptation and Kerry Washington’s Little Fires Everywhere.

Hulu’s Chief Content Officer Joel Stillerman is out, after just a year on the job. Stillerman’s exit is part of a restructuring at the streaming service, as content and distribution have now been divided into two separate groups: content partnerships and originals.

During the Hulu Upfront presentation (via io9), Blumhouse founder Jason Blum said that each episode in the series will be the length of a film and each other will be directed by a different filmmaker. As for the content of the episodes:
The series starts with "The Body," about a hitman who uses social media to make his latest conquest extra special, followed by November’s "Flesh & Blood," which focuses on a teenager with agoraphobia who thinks her dad is a killer. Blum also teased episodes around a pageant winner on New Year’s Day and an overprotective mom for Mother’s Day. He said no holiday is off limits.

Hulu experienced a transformative year in 2017, leading up to the Primetime Emmy Awards that changed everything for the streamer. “The Handmaid’s Tale” won the ultimate prize, Outstanding Drama, giving Hulu the honors of first streamer to take home an outstanding series Emmy — before rivals Netflix and Amazon.
The service also ended the year under new management, as Randy Freer replaced exiting boss Mike Hopkins as the new CEO, while Joel Stillerman left AMC to take on the top programming job. Freer and Stillerman are tasked with expanding Hulu’s scope, and the pressure’s now on to develop more hits that can join “Handmaid’s Tale” in the cultural conversation. But heading into 2018, Freer and Stillerman will also be front and center as the Walt Disney Co. acquisition of Fox’s production assets will include its stake in Hulu. While many Svod platforms struggled in 2017, Hulu had an undeniably good year, bolstered by the critical and awards season success of its dystopian drama The Handmaid's Tale. Now that the calendar has moved into 2018, Hulu is looking to continue gathering momentum, and among other strategies, it plans to roll out "emerging content" that could feature digital creators.
Joel Stillerman, who joined Hulu as its Chief Creative Officer last May, discussed his company's original programming roadmap during Variety‘s Entertainment Summit at CES. As he explained, future original programming will fall into three categories: "core content" will double down on the success Hulu has had so far, "brand elevating" projects will look to engender additional praise, and "emerging content" will offer up shorter videos led by digital talent.
While Netflix and Amazon are commonly thought of as Hulu's biggest competitors, emerging content would take cues from the leaders in short-form online video.

Even if some of their films haven’t been your cup of tea, none of us can deny the force in the industry that Blumhouse Productions has become. In the past decade or so, they’ve enthralled audiences with new franchises such as Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Ouija, The Purge and, my personal favorite, Sinister, to name but a few.
But now, they’re aiming to find new ways of keeping us awake at night, this time via the growing digital streaming market. In fact, they’re pairing with the immensely popular platform Hulu for what Variety describes as being a “new series, part of the Hulu Originals slate, [which] will deliver viewers 12 self-contained stories — a new episode premiering each month over one year.”
Currently, details remain scarce, but despite each episode telling a standalone tale, a connective device is to be expected. Thus, this anthology could end up feeling like Tales from the Darkside...

The Walking Dead series has been a wild and interesting ride. For the most part, it's been a great show, but it's definitely had some bumps in the road on its journey. The last episode saw a big ratings drop, but that isn't worrying AMC CEO Josh Sapan. During a conference call with Wall Street analysts (via Deadline), he said the zombie drama has "a good shot to remain a top performer for many more years, if not decades." He went on to say:

David Madden may be exactly the executive that AMC needs right now. Madden, who has just been hired as the new president of original programming for AMC, Sundance TV and AMC Studios, is well-liked, creative, and has done it all as a producer, studio executive, and network boss.
The mandate for Madden (who recently stepped down as Fox Entertainment president) is clear: Like most outlets, AMC Networks is hungry to produce — and own — more of its own content. That’s why, in addition to overseeing programming for AMC, the exec will also do the same for Sundance TV and AMC Studios — the shingle tasked with producing more programming for the AMC Networks suite, which also includes BBC America and IFC.

As the networks prepare to launch their new fall TV seasons, Fox is making a change at the top. Michael Thorn has been named Fox’s new entertainment president, replacing David Madden, who is exiting the network after three years and is rumored to be in contention for the top AMC programming job (which has been empty since Joel Stillerman moved to Hulu).
Thorn was most recently executive vice president of development at 20th Century Fox TV, where he worked on series including the NBC hit “This Is Us,” as well as Fox’s “Empire,” ABC’s “Speechless” and CBS’ “Life in Pieces.” He reports to Fox TV Group chairmen/CEOs Gary Newman and Dana Walden, who announced the appointment on Wednesday morning.
“We’ve worked with Michael for the past decade, and in terms of creative chops and leadership skills, he’s one of the best,” Newman and Walden said in a joint statement.

Hulu’s ready to go beast mode, and has recruited AMC’s programming chief to help it grow its footprint as one of TV’s key streaming services.
Joel Stillerman, who spent nearly 10 years at AMC Networks – most recently as president of original programming and development for AMC and Sundance TV – has been named Hulu’s first-ever chief content officer.
Stillerman’s mandate? Come up with a content strategy that will grow Hulu’s advertising revenue (don’t forget, unlike Netflix, a good chunk of Hulu’s users see ads) and subscriber growth.
Hulu’s subscriber base was around 12 million last year, and at its upfront presentation last week, the company reported 47 million total unique viewers. But it still has a way to go to catch up to competitors Netflix and Amazon: According to eMarketer, Netflix boasts around 128 million individual users this year, while Amazon has around 85.3 million viewers.
