There are many, many bad directors who keep somehow finding big movies to direct: McG, Brett Ratner, Scott Stewart. But one of the most baffling is Mark Steven Johnson. The rare example of a filmmaker who seems to get worse rather than better, he started off, after penning the likes of "Grumpy Old Men" and "Jack Frost," by directing the sickly "Simon Birch." He then landed the big job of helming Fox's "Daredevil"--no great shakes, but "Hiroshima Mon Amour" compared to his next superhero flick, "Ghost Rider." Last year, he proved there was no genre that he couldn't suck at…...

Taken director Pierre Morel is getting closer to directing his next film for Us audiences, but the question now beckons ... will it be an action packed ghost story or an action packed alien invasion flick?
As per The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog:
"The French director, who came to Hollywood’s attention with the hit Liam Neeson action movie Taken, is making a presentation this afternoon to Universal outlining his take on Hasbro board game adaptation Ouija.
The studio has already heard a presentation from Sylvain White, and Scott Stewart and John Moore have also been having conversations about directing the supernatural thriller centered on the spirit board that is used to communicate with the dead.
Morel is also in talks to direct Warner Bros.’s Edf, aka Earth Defense Force, a giant alien invasion movie which is being produced by Sam Raimi and Bill Block, head of Qed International,...

We bow to anyone who can come up with a worse idea for a Hollywood tentpole blockbuster like "Ouija Board: The Movie." Hasbro must be looking for an excuse to get us to kiss their Converse, however, as they are prepared to throw Yankees money at adapting the game into a full length feature, with $80-100 million being the magic number to get this thing on movie screens nationwide. And like every big budget tentpole announced in the last month, a number of directors are vying for the job. The studio's contestants? -Scott Stewart. Stewart is an FX guy who…...

Who would have thought a little movie based upon a Parker Brothers board game that supposedly enables you to communicate with the dead could cause such a stir in Hollywood!
According to Deadline New York three candidates in the mix for the directing gig at the moment are front-runner and Taken helmer Pierre Morel, The Losers helmer Sylvain White, and even Scott Stewart (Legion Priest).
From a previous report ...
While the Ouija movie could be a traditional horror picture (think pretty young things haunted by strange occurrences on a creepy sleepover), it's actually being developed as an action-adventure in the vein of National Treasure. Michael Bay's production company, Platinum Dunes, and several "Lost" writers are behind it. The Morel discussions underscore the adventure scope of the film; the director's 2009 phenomenon had plenty of high-speed chases and action.

Color me excited about this new Rise of the Apes movie. According to 20th Century Fox's Twitter account, the upcoming reboot of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes now has actor Andy Serkis attached to it. Serkis is most famous for playing Gollum in the Lord of the Rings cycle and recently played punk rocker Ian Dury in Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll. Serkis will play Caesar, the leader of an ape rebellion against the humans that have imprisoned them and treated them like slaves at worst and second-class citizens at best. At least, that's what would be true if they're using Conquest of the Planet of the Apes as a template for their remake, which I suspect they are based on the film's plot.
This is great news. While the film didn't get the prestige director it could have--i think a Pierre Morel directed Apes or...

Those following the career of Paul Bettany might be wondering whatever happened to the man who stared into the dark abyss of our souls in Gangster Number One all those years ago.
He established himself instantly with his portrayal of a young Malcolm McDowell in Paul McGuigan’s film, and while he has dipped his toes in the rom com pool occasionally, he has often looked to distance himself from the mainstream and in taking roles such as Priest he is doing just that.
Since his last film Legion took an Icarusian plunge from favour at the box office, he remains undaunted and has reunited with director Scott Stewart for this new film which is currently shooting.
Take a look here for a brief history of the film Preist, along with the very first shots of Paul Bettany in character, and then scroll down for more on set shots of the man of bloodied cloth.

Entertainment Weekly has premiered the first photo from Priest, the graphic novel adaptation starring Paul Bettany.
Bettany plays a vampire-hunting man of the cloth in Priest (due out in 2011), set in a dystopian future where the bloodsuckers are confined to reservations. “In our world, priests are like Jedi Knights with special powers and training,” explains director Scott Stewart (Legion).
“Our vampires are more feral and disturbing than, say, the teen-angst vampires of Twilight or the sexy vampires of True Blood. Those vampires are metaphors. Ours aren’t.”
The official synopsis of the graphic novel:
“In the frontier of the American west, a veil of evil threatens to engulf humanity. Servants of the fallen archangel Temozarela are paving the way for their dark lord’s resurrection.
One man stands in the way of the apocalypse—Ivan Isaacs—a fallen priest who sold his soul to the devil Belial for the power to fight evil.

We haven't really heard or seen much from Scott Stewart's Priest since the set visit video that aired during the Canadian version of Entertainment Tonight in March (watch it here). Over the weekend, the first production photo featuring Paul Bettany was released online (discovered by BloodyDisgusting). See the full image after the jump. Official Plot Synopsis: Priest is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. Paul Bettany is Priest, a legendary warrior priest during the last Vampire War, who now lives in obscurity among the other human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities controlled by the Church. But when his 18-year-old niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires in the desolate wastelands outside, Priest breaks his sacred vows and ventures out to find her and seek vengeance upon those responsible, especially their brutal leader (Karl Urban). Priest is joined on his crusade...

There have been plenty of behind-the-scenes looks at Paul Bettany going to and from the set of his new horror/comic book movie “Priest”, but here’s the official look at the film from EW, who is doing one of those “first look” gallery showcases that they do every now and then, always with these tiny ass pictures because they’re apparently trying to save on bandwidth or some such. Honestly, I don’t know who makes the decisions over there, but they suck. Paul Bettany and director Scott Stewart (Legion) have teamed up once again to bring the TokyoPop comic book Priest to the big screen, and the first official photo from the film has been released, which you can check out to your left.
The film is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire and follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.
So how does this all play out? "In our world, priests are like Jedi Knights with special powers and training," Stewart told EW. "Our vampires are more feral and disturbing than, say, the teen-angst vampires of 'Twilight' or the sexy vampires of 'True Blood.' Those vampires are metaphors. Ours aren't."
What?! No washboard abs? No reciting poetry by moonlight? No vegetarianism?
We like the sounds of it already.

Following their collaboration on the poorly received Legion, Paul Bettany and director Scott Stewart have reunited with another religious themed horrorshow for their take on Hyung Min-woo’s comic series Priest, which at its heart is a blend of cowboys, vampires and a host of hellbent craziness.
A behind the scenes clip surfaced a few months ago but the trail went cold until today when a single image from the film appeared online.
Bettany stars with Karl Urban, Christopher Plummer, Brad Dourif, Maggie Q and Cam Gigandet and in Entertainment Weekly director Stewart is quoted thusly,
In our world, priests are like Jedi Knights with special powers and training.
Our vampires are more feral and disturbing than, say, the teen-angst vampires of Twilight or the sexy vampires of True Blood. Those vampires are metaphors. Ours aren’t.
That’ll be news to True Blood star Stephen Moyer who also appears in the film.

Entertainment Weekly has got its hand on the first official still from "Priest" starring Paul Bettany. The production photo captures the lead actor next to a bald-headed man, who could be a vampire or has been bitten by vampire, considering his pale skin.
Explaining about the character in the film, director Scott Stewart says, "In our world, priests are like Jedi Knights with special powers and training." He then compares the vampires in his movie with the bloodsuckers in "Twilight" film series and hit TV show "True Blood", claiming "Our vampires are more feral and disturbing than, say, the teen-angst vampires of 'Twilight' or the sexy vampires of 'True Blood'. Those vampires are metaphors. Ours aren't."

The question remains ... will we ever see Priest? Given how many times the release date has been shuffled (it now stands at May 13th, 2011, but who knows?), it's getting harder and harder to tell. Given that the first image of Paul Bettany as the title character has surfaced in this week's Entertainment Weekly, maybe we have some hope after all.
Priest is an adaptation of a TokyoPop comic book that is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire. Bettany plays a warrior priest who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. It's undergoing a 2D to 3D conversion as we speak.
Look for more on Scott Stewart's Priest starring Bettany, Cam Gigandet (The Unborn, Pandorum, The Roommate, Twilight), Madchen Amick, Stephen Moyer ("True Blood"), Maggie Q., Christopher Plummer, Brad Dourif, and Alan Dale hopefully soon.
