Updated With Full List Of Scripts, Writers, And Reps: Catherine The Great, about the rise and life of the famous (sometimes notorious) 18th-Century Russian monarch, was the top vote-getter among 70 scripts chosen for the 2014 Black List of the year’s best un-produced scripts. The screenplay, by Los Angeles writer and producer Kristina Lauren Anderson, was announced as part of an hour-plus process on Twitter and YouTube this morning.
Each of the 70 screenplays on this 10th annual list was chosen by a group of 250 development executives, agents and other Hollywood insiders as among the year’s best un-produced scripts in a process overseen by Franklin Leonard of http://www.blcklst.com. Anderson’s screenplay received 51 votes.
Other notables in the list include writer/actor/director Kenneth Lonergan with Manchester-By-The-Sea, which is being produced by Matt Damon and Chris Moore. Randall Green had two scripts make the list, The Swimsuit Issue and Cartoon Girl.

This year’s Blood List has named the 13 best genre scripts around town, and in its sixth year the annual screenplay contest is expanding its scope to include hot books, TV pilots, and young scribes ripe for signing. Taking top honors in 2014 is sci-fi thriller Bird Box from The Thing and Final Destination 5 scribe Eric Heisserer, an apocalyptic tale of a woman trying to lead her children to safety – all three blindfolded – after monsters descend on earth that turn people insane on sight. Universal set Heisserer to adapt the manuscript from Josh Malerman in 2013 for Mama helmer Andy Muschietti. Previous Blood List alumni include Black Swan, Stoker, Warm Bodies, and the upcoming Blumhouse thriller The Boy Next Door.
Like the Black List naming the top unproduced screenplays circulating around Hollywood, the genre-focused Blood List taps exec votes to determine each year’s best unmade horror, sci-fi, and thriller scripts.

After ditching Max Landis' take on Chronicle 2, Fox has hired a new screenwriter to pen the sequel. The writer's name is Jack Stanley, and he's a relative newcomer.
He wrote spec script for a film called Sweetheart, which tells "the story of a female assassin whose attempt to get out of the biz is thrown awry by her high school reunion." It hit the Black List and helped the writer get his start. He also wrote a werewolf thriller called Silver. Neither of those projects have been produced yet, but they are in the process.
The version that Landis was developing was too dark for the studio, which wanted to take it in a different direction. Landis ultimately created the story, so it would have been great to see his vision of how it continued. Hopefully Stanley is able to deliver a script that fans can enjoy.

"Chronicle 2" is moving forward, and now has a new writer attached.
Deadline reports that Jack Stanley, a 25-year-old Hollywood newcomer with no produced screenplays under his belt yet, has nabbed the job. He'll script the follow-up to the 2012 sci-fi hit, which generated tons of buzz and made more than ten times its $12 million budget at the box office.
Stanley reportedly landed the coveted gig on the strength of one of his screenplays, "Sweetheart," the story of a female assassin that landed on the prestigious Black List, which highlights the top unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. That film is now moving forward, as is another one of his scripts, a werewolf flick called "Silver." It seems it won't be long before everyone knows his name.

Josh Trank's Chronicle seemed like every bit the one-off film, a mini-budgeted surprise that grossed a solid $126 million worldwide. The ending is bleak, but with a sliver of hope that allows viewers to fill in the blanks. But a studio just leaving a potential franchise behind is simply bad business, and Chronicle 2 is on the way, and a new writer is tackling the material. Deadline reports that Jack Stanley has been hired to restart the legend of Chronicle. You're not gonna find Stanley on IMDb: he's strictly new blood, having landed on the Black List for his screenplay Sweetheart. That premise involves a young hitwoman visiting her high school reunion and ending up in a fatal situation. Guess there aren't many movies out there about hitwomen, so sure, if they ever make that movie it would be worth a watch. Currently, Stanley's new script, Silver, is "making the rounds...

Deadline.com is reporting that the powers that be at Twentieth Century Fox have reached out to a yet-to-be-produced writer, Jack Stanley, to pen Chronicle 2 after turning down the original screenwriter's (Max Landis) script for being too dark. While there aren not any writing credits to Stanley’s name, he did write a script titled Sweetheart which made the 2013 Black List of un-produced screenplays. Seeing how the original Chronicle cost 12 million to produce yet made 126 million dollars in box office receipts, it makes total sense that Fox would want to go back to that well and see if it can produce any more box office magic for the studio. But seeing how two of the three leads died in the original movie, Joshua Trank won’t be returning, and the original screenwriter has been replaced, this sequel has an air of “cash grab" to it. The original Chronicle is an...

The movie was not only a coup for Paramount, but for title star Russell Crowe and director Darren Aronofsky: Noah is the highest opening ever for a Crowe-led movie and it earned more than Aronofsky's first movie movies put together!
Divergent took second, adding $25.6 million to its total, which nears the $100 million mark. Divergent actually had more staying power than similar Ya movies, dropping 53% in week two versus, e.g., The Hunger Games, which dropped 62% in its second week in theaters. Muppets Most Wanted took third with $11.3 million, while Mr. Peabody & Sherman came in fourth with $9 million. Since the superhero found-footage film “Chronicle” became a sleeper hit in 2012, director Josh Trank has moved on to the “Fantastic Four” reboot bringing along Michael B. Jordan, and writer Max Landis was dumped by the studio as a result of creative differences, leaving the planned sequel in a stalled state. Now, after nine months, Fox has finally found their new writer. Deadline reports complete unknown -- he has zero produced credits to his name—Jack Stanley to pen the sequel. Stanley caught the attention of the studio after the one-two punch of the specs “Sweetheart”—akin to a female-led version of “Grosse Pointe Blank”—and the werewolf-thriller “Silver.” Although it’s still much too early for the sequel’s plot to be known, Stanley’s take will likely be less ambitious than Landis’ rejected draft if John Landis’ comments last year are to believed. With the original film budgeted at...

After Josh Trank's "Chronicle" earned $126 million worldwide on a budget of $12 million, 20th Century Fox knew that it wanted a sequel. Instead, the studio cast the director to helm its upcoming "Fantastic Four" reboot, which will star "Chronicle" actor Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm. But it seems that Fox is still pushing forward with "Chronicle 2," because Jack Stanley was just hired to write the script. Stanley doesn't have any credits, but has impressed producers with his "Sweetheart" script, which ended up on the Black List of best unproduced screenplays. Max Landis, who wrote the first "Chronicle" movie, actually wrote a script for the sequel, which would have introduced us to the world's first villain. Fox, however, rejected his idea and refused to hired him for the job.

Jack Stanley has been hired to write Chronicle 2.
The newcomer will replace Max Landis on the follow-up to the 2012 found footage hit.
Landis was previously hired to work on the sequel but departed the project after his darker vision for the film clashed with Fox's desire for a movie more similar to the first.
Stanley wrote the 2013 Black List script for Sweetheart - the tale of a hitwoman trying to get out of the business while she attends her high school reunion.
Dane DeHaan, Michael B Jordan and Alex Russell starred in the Josh Trank-directed original.
Chronicle centred around three teenage friends who receive superpowers after encountering a mysterious buried object.
Trank is currently attached to Fox's Fantastic Four reboot.

Chronicle 2 is moving steadily forward, with Fox moving to replace the departed Max Landis with new screenwriter, Jack Stanley. It has been nearly a year since Landis revealed the sequel would be moving forward without him, after he and the studio fell out over the direction the second film should take. According to Landis, the studio’s complaint was that his sequel was too much of a departure from the original, with Fox keen to recapture the feel of the film that performed so well at the box office. Sheldon Turner ("The Longest Yard," "Up in the Air") has been hired to pen the script for the film adaptation of the "Splinter Cell" video game series. Eric Warren Singer ("American Hustle") penned the previous draft with filming aiming to begin in August.
The project marks a reunion of Turner, director Doug Liman and actor Tom Hardy. All three are still attached to a George Mallory biopic at Sony Pictures, but that project is on hold and probably won't film until next year.
Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox has hired 25-year old Jack Stanley to write the script for a follow-up to 2012's "Chronicle". Max Landis penned the first film's script.
Stanley has no produced credits, but penned the spec script "Sweetheart" which made the Black List and has Michael Costigan attached to produce. He also penned the werewolf thriller "Silver".

Max Landis isn't writing Chronicle 2 any more. Instead, Jack Stanley has been hired to take a crack at it...
The success of the movie Chronicle, which returned over $120m at the global box office off a budget of $12m, has meant it's hardly surprising that 20th Century Fox would want a sequel to the movie. But by the looks of things, the mooted Chronicle 2 is going to be lacking some of the core original talent from the first film.
Director Josh Trank for a start is busy on the upcoming reboot of Fantastic Four. Writer Max Landis, meanwhile, had penned a screenplay for Chronicle 2, but not one that the studio liked. Landis reportedly was looking to take the sequel down a darker road, but that wasn't what Fox was necessarily after.

Continuing the original film’s tactic of incorporating fresh new voices in cinema, Chronicle 2 has gained a screenwriter in the form of newcomer Jack Stanley, Deadline reports.
Stanley doesn’t have a single produced film to his name, but he gained some credibility recently with two spec scripts. His first, Sweetheart, centered on a female assassin whose attempts to retire are sidelined by her high school reunion, while his second spec script, Silver, is described as a werewolf thriller. Sweetheart made the Black List, and both scripts are in line to be produced at some point down the road.
The original Chronicle, a found-footage flick that drew acclaim for its innovative approach to the superhero genre, was a huge hit for Fox back in 2012, grossing $126 million worldwide on a $12 million budget, as well as a breakout both for director Josh Trank and screenwriter Max Landis.

Liman previously hired Turner for his Everest film, although that seems now to have fallen by the wayside in the face of the Baltasar Kormakur version (which stars Josh Brolin and John Hawkes and is currently in production at Universal). As with the games, the focus will be Sam Fisher (Hardy), a secret operative for shadowy government organisation Third Echelon, dedicated to taking down terrorists. When you make a film for $12 million and it ends up grossing $126 million, it's a safe bet that there will be a sequel. Well, that's Chronicle. With all the mindless sequels and reboots that Hollywood has churned out over the last few years, it’s always nice when something original and well-written can break through and get a studio release. Unfortunately, many quality scripts can spend years without ever reaching the right executive to give it the green light. In an effort to make the process a little bit better, former production executive Franklin Leonard started The Black List in 2004. Today, the site announced its ninth annual list of the best unproduced scripts.
To come up with the list, nominations are received from over 250 executives. If a film gets 6 nominations, it gets a spot on the list. The more executives that nominate it, the higher on the list it is.
