It’s hardly worth being upset anymore that cartoons, characters and series that we hold dear from our youth are uniformly exploited by a craven corporate creative industry uniformly dictated by marketing. The fact that those responsible, no more so than wobble-cam buffoon Michael Bay, could fill his Olympic sized swimming pool with money for his various crimes against cinema and memory are indicative of the grotesque rewards 21st century capitalism affords the amoral and artless. Under such circumstances, it is little wonder that a reboot of hit Saturday morning cartoon, Thundercats, has been speculated upon for several years.
Initially it seemed likely that a Paul Sopocy (It’s Alive) script would be turned into a CGI feature, and then a rather specious sounding live action film was suggested. Now, however, Warner Bros- who secured the rights to the series after a sequence of studio mergers in the early 90s-...

Alright, so let's work through a few things here. There is a script that Thundercats Lair, a Thundercats fansite, has gotten their hands on. They claim it's the script that Paul Sopocy wrote for Warner Bros, though he was supposed to have written two, and it’s not clear if this is claiming to be the first or second draft. However, despite this script leaking (if it is in fact the real script), the last we heard from Warners was that the project was shelved for the time being, and...

I was a Thundercats kid. When I had my 8th birthday at the local ground round we had a dude dressed up as Lion-o, and it was pretty sweet. So like a lot of you, news of a Thundercats had me excited, but sadly, our dreams were crushed when word around the campfire was that the movie was a no go. Now though, there.s a new development. A draft of the Thundercats script has hit the net. Insides sources provided Sr with the info that Paul Sopocy has not only finished a first draft of the Thundercats screenplay, but was hired by Warner Bros. to do a rewrite. This information conflicts with what was reported back in December about Thundercats being dropped by WB but in Hollywood you never really know. Their inside source also says Chase Me Productions will produce the project with WB handling the distribution. Here...

Check out the trailer for the It’s Alive remake of the 1974 film, starring Bijou Phillips (Hostel: Part II) as a young mother who’s newborn has a taste for blood. The film is directed by Josef Rusnak (The Thirteenth Floor) and written by Larry Cohen (It’s Alive + sequels helmer), Paul Sopocy and James Portolese. Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about this one. Seems pretty pointless. Also makes me sad for Larry Cohen. Someone just introduced me to his films, The Stuff and God Told Me To which I enjoyed. Oh well. It’s Alive (rated & unrated) arrives in stores on [...]Post from: Screamstress...

We know already that Transformers is big business. We're about to find out if G.I. Joe can accomplish the same thing. And then down the road we'll see a new He-Man movie and ThunderCats, as well. Movieline has scored a glimpse at new concept art from that film, and then ruined it with the most gawdawful website watermark I've ever seen.
Beyond that, though, you do get a good look at what the movie might look like. Movieline says they come from art director Jerry O'Flaherty, who might be in line to direct the film, which currently has no concrete timetable. But if it's as ambitious as some of the concept art, we might be waiting a while.
As for what part of ThunderCats lore we should expect to see, the website says Paul Sopocy's script "was to follow Lion-o’s origin myth from young cub to his...

Everyone has their own '80s cartoon franchise that meant something to them, and mine was ThunderCats: The Rankin/Bass series followed of a race of humanoid felines from the planet Thundera, forced to evacuate after their home comes under siege by the fearsome Mutants of Plun-Darr (who looked a bit like reptilian Ernest Borgnines.) Yes, I still hold a fond place in my heart for Lion-o, Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, Snarf and the rest, and so Warner Bros.' announcement a while back of a Thundercats movie filled me with the warm, fuzzy feelings one typically associates with watching Saturday morning TV while eating peanut-butter-and-grape-jelly sandwiches. The script, written by Paul Sopocy, was to follow Lion-o's origin myth from young cub to his anointment as Lord of the ThunderCats, and was to be directed by veteran art director Jerry O'Flaherty.

The art designer of best-selling video games like Gears of War and Command and Conquer has been signed to helm the previously announced ThunderCats movie.
Variety reports that Jerry O'Flaherty had been looking for a project to take the leap into feature films and the adaptation of the popular 1980s animated series seemed like a perfect fit. O'Flaherty says, "It feels like a natural thing for me to step into. Games have come so far now. The last four years of my life have been about bringing the energy of film making into the video game experience."
Unlike other animated properties that are being translated to the big screen, ThunderCats will be CG-animated. O'Flaherty will work with screenwriter Paul Sopocy on the script which is expected to retell the tale of Lion-o's coming of age as the leader of the heroic humanoid cat team. No mention's been made of voice...
