Festival guests will include director Jim Sheridan and actress Ruth Negga.
Netflix-acquired war-drama The Siege of Jadotville - which tells the true story of a battalion under attack in the Congo in the 1960s - leads a strong line-up of Irish cinema at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh (July 5 - 10).
The film stars Jamie Dornan as Commandant Pat Quinlan, who led an Irish battalion of United Nations soldiers during a tense stand-off against local troops and foreign mercenaries in the Congo in 1961.
The Parallel Film-produced title, a directorial debut by Richie Smyth based on the novel by Irish journalist Declan Power, will have a special screening at the Fleadh.
It is one of several Irish films that will bow at the Fleadh, which runs from July 5th-10th. The festival will also focus on world cinema and Finnish cinema. Guests include director Jim Sheridan, actress Ruth Negga and screenwriter Kirsten Smith.

10. Blackboard Jungle
Billed as "a brass-knuckle punch in its startling revelation of teenage savages" and based on the book of the same name by Evan Hunter – aka crime writer Ed McBain – who drew on his own experiences as a teacher in the Bronx – Blackboard Jungle ushered in the age of the teenage delinquent. In London, Brooks's film attracted crowds of Teddy Boys, who slashed cinema seats, danced in the aisles and actually started a riot.
The reason for such shocking behaviour wasn't so much the film's content, which today garners a more sober 12 rating, but because of the use of...

Clearly figuring that the comic chemistry of Anna Faris and Ryan Reynolds worked in Just Friends, Universal wants to pair them for Tmi. Tmi - "too much information" - will focus on a couple who discover that while honesty is usually the best policy for a healthy relationship, learning too much about your significant other or their habits can be a dangerous thing. Currently, that's all the info on the film, besides the fact that Kirsten Smith and Marc Klein have penned the script and Reynolds will be an executive...

There were so many things to love about the 1999 movie 10 Things I Hate About You. In the same way Amy Heckerling turned Jane Austen's Emma into the masterpiece that is Clueless, Karen Lutz and Kirsten Smith turned Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew into 10 Things.
To start with, Julia Stiles is a babe. I'm sad to not have seen her in anything good lately, but at least I have fond memories of her pouty-face wearing overalls.
Then we had Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt working side by side to ultimately win the affections of the Stratford sisters. Heath was and Joseph still is worthy of my lesbian attraction.
I can't say it was a surprise to hear that this movie was being made into a TV show — most things are being reduced, reused and recycled these days. I will be surprised if this ends up being any good.

To mark the release of Sony Pictures Classics' "Rachel Getting Married," we've thrown together what we think are some of the best wedding toasts seen in film. "Rachel Getting Married" stars Anne Hathaway, Debra Winger, Rosemarie DeWitt, Bill Irwin, Mather Zickel, Anna Deavere Smith, Anisa George and Tunde Adebimpe. Hathaway has grown up from the "Princess Diary" days and shows her true value as an actress who is most adaptable. Anne's had her time with some of the best of Hollywood, most recently in this summer's strong performer "Get Smart" starring Steve Carell. From comedy, family, drama, horror, animated, romance and more, Hathaway is the poster child for talent and versatility. What's "Rachel Getting Married" about? This is a contemporary drama with an aggressive sense of humor about the return of an estranged daughter to the family home for her sister's wedding. Kym's (Hathaway) reemergence throws a wrench into the family dynamics,...
