Any movie with an opening sequence featuring a close-up of an elephant’s anus spraying diarrhea on hapless bystanders is certainly announcing itself as something, and by the end of the three hours and eight minutes of Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon,” viewers will have been exposed to any number of bodily secretions, including urine, vomit and tears.
The tears come at the film’s climax, no doubt in the hopes that the audience will follow suit, but of all the aforementioned emittances, they feel the least organic to this bloated, hyperbolized and ultimately dreary extravaganza of decadence and nostalgia.
Both a valentine and a poison-pen letter to the American film industry in its infancy, “Babylon” aspires to the grandiosity of “The Last Tycoon” and “The Day of the Locust,” though it more often recalls Ryan Murphy’s embarrassing and wildly ahistorical “Hollywood” miniseries.

One of the issues surrounding Season 4 of the Paramount Network juggernaut Yellowstone was how often it would switch storylines and lose focus. While showrunner Taylor Sheridan may look comfortable in a cowboy hat, creatively, he may have worn too many hats this past year, working on at least three shows concurrently. Season 4 not only spent time setting up proposed spin-off 6666, but often gave flashbacks of the Dutton clan in 1883, basically using Season 4 as advertising for all his other shows (other than Paramount+’s unrelated Mayor of Kingstown). Yet, there might be hope for Yellowstone Season 5.
With the premiere seasons of 1883 and Kingstown essentially finished and under Sheridan’s large-buckled belt, it seems like he can once again focus solely on the visceral story beats to which Yellowstone fans became accustomed. So once Season 5 hits, what can we expect? While there weren’t any massive cliff-hangers similar to the end of...

We’re more than halfway in.
Two more episodes of The X-Files revival (Fox has taken to calling it Season 10 these days, perhaps indicating hope for a future season or two) have come and gone, and brought with them plenty of Wtf moments.
Interestingly, these two episodes could not be more different. One was an off-the-wall, light-hearted, comedy themed X-Files episode that turned out to be the instant classic many had predicted, while the other was a dark, drab monster of the week attempt that did as much wrong as it did right. Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster and Home Again might be seen as a lesson in contrasts, but both are worthy of a second look.
Why? Both had totally insane moments, off-the-wall, bizarre, and completely unexpected scenes that included a scandalous Scully sex scene (imagined, mind you), murder victims being torn limb from limb by a...
