Denver may not be a city that attracts the amount of movie industry buzz that centers around our Western neighbors of Telluride, Sundance and Austin, but we do have a solid and fervent community of film lovers here. We don't have a ton of film events, but what we do have is cherished and obsessed over enough to rival the Alamo Drafthouse.
One of these events is the Starz Denver Film Festival, which is going strong in its 32nd year. After partnering with Starz, over the years, we've played host to Crispin Glover, Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy, Will Smith, Ang Lee, and enjoyed every on-the-cusp-of-Oscar movie of the past three seasons. This year is no exception as the festival kicks off this week with Precious, which was produced by the Denver-based Sarah Siegel Magness and Gary Magness. Denver will also get a chance to "meet" the film's buzzed about star, »

They even go one step further to say that The Notebook star Rachel McAdams is at the top of the studio's list, and is about to be cast. - A day before that, The Observer published a guest article by actress Romola Garai, who had to put herself "on tape" for a role in the pic »

Before I start gushing about just how great this cartoon and, by connection, this set are, let’s establish two things. First, for every good thing I have to say about the entire set I include a single footnote: this should be available in a Blu-ray release as well, the animation would be sharper and bolder, the audio would be stunning and the entire package would have had that much more relevance considering the current trends of digital media. Second, this is so much more than just a ‘cartoon’. As is said a few times in the extra features of the series, Justice League may be the greatest superhero animated series to have ever existed. So what does that imply about this complete series set? One of the best ever?

Barely a month after a teaser and a clip, here's the full theatrical trailer for Up In The Air; the eagerly anticipated pairing of star George Clooney and director Jason Reitman. As you'll know by now, Clooney is the morally empty "corporate downsizer" on a mission to collect a million air miles as he travels around eviscerating small businesses, until circumstances start converging to prick his conscience. The new trailer obviously showcases Clooney, doing his wounded Michael Clayton corporate schtick, but it also gives us a good look at Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick as the female leads, and glimpses of what's sure to be sterling support from Jason Bateman, Jk Simmons, and flavour-of-the-year Zach Galifianakis. The mainstream smarts of Reitman's Juno, plus some of the edge of his Thank You For Smoking reapplied, plus Clooney on top of his game, plus sterling co-stars and supporting cast, equals palpable hit. »

I feel as if destiny has connected me with Jason Reitman's latest movie, the high-flying dramedy Up in the Air. I just finished a long week at Fantastic Fest, where I saw George Clooney star in another film, The Men Who Stare at Goats. I also just started planning to cover next month's Austin Film Festival, where Up in the Air is the closing night film. And to top it all off, I've been to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport twice today, transporting various Fantastic Fest house guests who were flying home. Needless to say, I am ready to see this theatrical trailer. Luckily, the folks at Paramount and Apple are obliging my state of readiness this evening, as they've debuted the brand new Up in the Air trailer for all to see. You can watch it below, then head down to the comment section below and let me know what you think of it. If »

Adam Mast reviews the horror that stars Megan 'the body' Fox.
Following an Oscar win for her Juno screenplay, Diablo Cody went on to create The United States of Tara, an immensley entertaining HBO show that just earned star Toni Collette an Emmy. How do you follow that? With a horror movie of course. In Jennifer's Body, Megan Fox plays a teenager named--you guessed it--Jennifer. While at a local bar with her her nerdy girlfriend Needy (Mamma Mia's Amanda Seyfried), Jennifer is bewitched by a top of the charts emo band called Low Shoulder. The band takes a liking to Jennifer, and without missing a beat, the mischievious teen jumps in the band's van leaving a helpless Needy to fend for herself. Later that evening, a bloodied Jennifer shows up at Needy's house. Only she's not the same Jennifer. Before long, this altered teen becomes a man eater--literally!

Up In The Air Directed by Jason Reitman Obscure alt-culture references are nowhere to be found in Jason Reitman`s follow-up to his sharply divisive runaway smash Juno. Instead, Up In the Air turns sharply towards the dramatic, a move that proved mildly disastrous for fellow comedy dynamo Judd Apatow just a few months ago, but which Reitman manages without sacrificing his film`s cohesiveness, largely by keeping an unswerving focus on his themes and generally keeping the proceedings in the realm of the credible. George Clooney, finally looking slightly weathered in a role that calls for it, stars as Ryan Bingham, a legend in the field of outsourced firing, a field that is experiencing a renaissance thanks to economic downturn. It`s Bingham’s job to break the news to the newly sacked when the higher-ups get too squeamish, a job that he takes with relative seriousness without seeming personally ruffled. »

Jennifer's Body Directed by Karyn Kusama Jennifer's Body lands at Tiff carrying with it huge expectations. Diablo Cody returns with her first script since her Oscar -winning Juno, along with director Karyn Kusama (Girlfight), making this a hotly anticipated team up - a fresh change in the male-dominated world of horror cinema. In addition, starlet Megan Fox marks her first high-profile role outside the Transformers films in hopes of proving that her acting skills match up to her looks. Fox plays the titular Jennifer, a sexy she-devil and popular captain of the high school cheerleading squad who transforms into a blood sucking teenage tramp thanks to a Satan-worshiping sacrifice by the hands of touring indie rock group Low Shoulder. Led by lead singer Nikolai (Adam Brody), the band hopes that the sacrifice will bring them success, only their amateurish ways and little experience in the occult sends the ritual in a different direction. »
