As the day inches closer when his version of the DC Universe will finally launch to fans worldwide, the superhero franchise’s Studios’ co-ceo James Gunn seems to be doing everything in his power to keep fans’ interest piqued in his upcoming Superman movie without revealing too much. That being said, he even celebrated ‘Superman Day’ recently, wishing his fans the same!

But as much as he has succeeded in keeping the fans of the superhero universe from all across the globe on their toes through his super-frequent teasing and updates on everything, he still seems to be lagging. This comes after a majority of the fan reaction to his wishes on this day is ostensibly demanding the very thing that he just won’t give us: The final reveal of Kal-El’s superhero suit.

Having old comic books can sometimes be a very lucrative business if you’re not a fan or collector yourself. Imagine finding a very old comic book that your grandfather or great-grandfather kept in good shape… a title from the 1930s, 1940s, or 1950s. Then imagine that it is a first-edition print and also that copies are very hard to find, if not impossible. You yourself don’t like comics and are not a fan, so you decide to sell them, as you think that you can earn some money off of it. And bam… you suddenly have $6 million! Yes, that is the price for which the most expensive comic book of all time, Action Comics #1 (June 1938), was sold during an auction by Heritage.

Some years ago, Josh Gad received an out of the blue email from Frank Miller, someone whom he had never met.
The legendary comic creator behind The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City asked Gad, the stage and screen actor who is also the voice of Olaf in Disney’s Frozen movies, if he would be interested in writing a comic book. Miller believed Gad would be good at it.
“I was petrified,” Gad tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I didn’t think I was capable of it. Conceptually, I didn’t have a way into it and make personal and create something worthy of people’s time.” He politely replied to Miller and declined his invitation.
In the intervening years, however, Gad found his voice, so to speak. Though Miller is not involved, the actor now has co-written a comic that will be published by indie powerhouse Dark Horse Comics starting June.

Superman has leapt a world record in a single bound. An issue of Action Comic No. 1, which introduced the world to the Kryptonian hero, sold at auction for a record $6 million Thursday, making it the most valuable comic book in the world.
It tops an issue of 1939’s Superman No. 1, which sold for $5.3 million in 2022. Before that, the most valuable comic in the world was a copy of 1962’s Amazing Fantasy No. 15, the first appearance of Spider-Man, which sold for $3.6 million in 2021.
Action Comics No. 1 is exceedingly rare, with just 78 copies tracked by Cgc, the service that authenticates and grades the condition of comic books. The service believes there are around 100 in existence total out of 200,000 initially printed by National Allied Publications, a forerunner of DC Comics.
The copy sold on Thursday has a grade of 8.5 out of 10, meaning it’s in excellent condition for a comic of its age.

With cameras rolling on James Gunn’s Superman, the director took to social media to share a special moment and show off a pretty cool gift from people tied directly to the legacy of the character.
James Gunn posted a photo of himself with the grandsons of Jerry Siegel – the famed co-creator (along with Joe Shuster) of Superman – who gifted him an edition of Action Comics #1, where the Man of Steel was first introduced. “A gift from Jerry Siegel’s grandsons Michael and James Larson – a reprint of the first issue of Action Comics signed by Jerry. It’s been great having Mike and Jim around keeping Jerry’s spirit alive in the birth of the Dcu! Here we all were on the day of the cast read through.” That’s a nice gesture from the fellas and shows that there is faith within the family for the project and future of DC.

Now that almost every popular celebrity in Hollywood seems to be migrating toward superhero franchises, mostly the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Universe, many might expect Adam Sandler to follow suit. This is especially true as he is unarguably one of the most popular and influential figures in the entertainment industry.

But even if he does get cast into either one of the franchises, which character could he best embody? Well, while there may not be many roles that would suit him (even though Sandler could quite perfectly embody any character), there is one supervillain from the Dcu who is equal parts maniacal as well as ridiculous enough for Sandler: Mister Mxyzptlk.

Superman: Legacy is now just Superman, director and DC studio chief James Gunn has revealed.
“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on Superman today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday,” Gunn wrote on Instagram this afternoon. “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was Superman. Making our way to you July 2025.”
The first title in a revamped DC slate overseen by Gunn and Peter Safran, Superman will follow the superhero of the same name as he looks to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

A legal fight is brewing over the upcoming Road House remake, with the original film’s screenwriter suing Amazon Studios.
R. Lance Hill, in a lawsuit filed Tuesday in California federal court, accuses MGM Studios and its parent, Amazon, of copyright infringement for refusing to license his 1986 screenplay after he allegedly clawed back the rights to his work. He seeks a court order blocking the release of the movie.
According to the complaint, Amazon instituted a self-imposed deadline to complete the remake. To meet this deadline, which was threatened by the actors strike, the suit claims Amazon resorted to using generative artificial intelligence to replicate the voices of the movie’s actors in violation of the collective bargaining agreements of SAG-AFTRA and the Director’s Guild of America.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios said the lawsuit is “completely without merit” and that “numerous allegations are categorically false.

“With great power comes great responsibility” might be the most important line in superhero fiction. It crystalizes a theme present in the best superhero stories even before Spider-Man‘s debut in 1962’s Amazing Fantasy #15, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s Superman tales and Bill Parker, and C.C. Beck’s Captain Marvel adventures. The line transforms superhero stories from mere power fantasies to stories about service and care, about empowering others instead of consolidating power for yourself.
So when a member of Las Arañas, Madame Web‘s ill-advised magical natives, tells Cass Webb (Dakota Johnson), “When you take on the responsibility, great power will come,” it’s clear the production team has lost the plot.
Director S.J. Clarkson, who co-wrote the script with Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Claire Parker, and certainly a boardroom of IP lawyers, intends the line to break Cass out of her...

Created in 1938 by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, Superman may not have been the first costumed crime fighter of the comics world (Lee Falk's "The Phantom" hit the funny pages two years earlier), but he quickly became the exemplar of the American superhero — due in large part to the timing of his arrival.
After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor compelled the United States to officially enter World War II, kids were desperate to believe the world wasn't on the verge of becoming a fascist hellhole; and people were well aware that, to avoid this outcome, hundreds of thousands of young Americans were going to get blown to pieces on foreign soil. Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro says there are only a few "universal characters" in fiction, such as Pinocchio, Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes, and Tarzan. IndieWire has reached out to representatives of Warner Bros. for comment.
According to Deadline, the casting process for Luthor began after the SAG-AFTRA strike ended on November 9, with casting on pause since the strike began in July. However, Hoult was in the mix for “Superman: Legacy” beforehand; the actor previously auditioned for the lead role of Clark Kent during early screen tests for the film. Warners already is in business with Hoult on Clint Eastwood’s Juror No. 2, and he also starred in the 2015 Warner Bros. blockbuster, Mad Max: Fury Road, which made over $380M at the global box office and won six Oscars.

Warners already is in business with Hoult on Clint Eastwood’s Juror No. 2, and he also starred in the 2015 Warner Bros. blockbuster, Mad Max: Fury Road, which made over $380M at the global box office and won six Oscars.
Deadline reported last week that Venezuelan actress María Gabriela de Faría landed the role of villain The Engineer.
Hoult follows in the line of such actors as Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey and Jesse Eisenberg who’ve portrayed Luthor onscreen in the Warner Bros. Superman franchise.

Following months of audition tapes and in-person screen tests, Warner Bros and DC Studios have their new Clark Kent and Lois Lane. David Corenswet has been set to play Superman while Rachel Brosnahan is on board to play Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.
The decision comes after the two were among the few selected to test in front of DC co-chairs Peter Safran and Gunn (who is directing) in full costume and makeup for the parts.
The tests took place over two days with the men; one of the days saw the three actors in full Superman attire. Sources close to the situation said that each actor had closed test deals that would expire after two business weeks, so clearly all parties wanted this sorted out before a potential SAG-AFTRA strike, which could go into effect at midnight June 30.

Roy Thomas was hired by Stan Lee in 1965 and succeeded him as Marvel editor-in-chief in 1972 when Lee became the publisher. Here, Thomas examines Stan Lee, the new documentary on Disney+ that has sparked debate over who deserves primary credit for the success of the Marvel Universe and its heroes — Lee or close collaborators such as artists Jack Kirby, whose son Neil has expressed disappointment in the documentary’s sidelining of his father’s contributions.
“Stan Lee was his own greatest creation.”
That’s a line that’s often tossed around these days — the more so since Stan died in late 2018 and isn’t around to respond in person to it — and there’s an argument to be made for it, as anyone who watches the new David Gelb documentary Stan Lee, now streaming on Disney+, can testify.

One of the joys of growing up in the 1960s is that you were treated to cartoons from earlier eras, long before limited animation filled the Saturday morning airwaves. Among those gems were the work of Max and Dave Fleischer, including Popeye, Gulliver’s Travels and, of course, Superman. Since then, they have fallen into public domain and were widely available, but never in the best condition.

The modern superhero movie would not exist without the version of Superman limned by Christopher Reeve in Warner Bros.’ 1978 smash “Superman.”
First created in 1938 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster for Action Comics, the Man of Steel became a pop-culture mainstay with the syn- dicated “Adventures of Superman” TV series in the 1950s. But it wasn’t until DC Comics moved into the world of Warner Bros. and Reeve donned the last son of Krypton’s blue-and-red tights for the Richard Donner-directed “Superman” that bringing a comic book superhero to life on the big screen was seen as blockbuster business. And the spoils were considerable: In the moment, “Superman” ranked as WB’s highest-grossing movie ever.
For the next two decades, Warner Bros. dominated superhero cinema, especially after Tim Bur- ton’s “Batman” in 1989 launched the Caped Crusader as the dark and brooding yin to Superman’s virtuous and hopeful yang.
