Actor Bobby Deol, who won praise from all quarters for his performance in the blockbuster film ‘Animal’, has said that the director of his debut film, Shekhar Kapur, opted out of the film because of the legacy of his father Dharmendra.
Bobby appeared with his brother Sunny on the latest episode of the streaming comedy show ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’, and opened up on his debut film ‘Barsaat’.
When host Kapil Sharma asked if Bobby or the director was scared to launch him, given the massive popularity of his father Dharmendra and elder brother Sunny Deol, Bobby replied: “Maybe that’s why Shekhar ran away. Shekhar Kapur. He was scared. But then Raj directed the film. But I never thought I was under pressure.”

India’s leading music composer and singer, Shekhar Ravjiani, shared his feelings about the re-imagined track, saying, “Zehnaseeb is a song that is extremely close to my heart. One of the highlights at India’s Cinevesture International Film Festival and market was a frank, philosophical on-stage chat between veteran filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and his singer-songwriter-composer daughter Kaveri.

When asked to reveal something unknown about himself, Shekhar Kapur spoke about his hidden fears, saying that people who think he is cool don’t “see the panic in my head every morning.”
“Fear drives me. I find panic is a huge form of creativity. When I, for example, shoot a film, I plan like a general going to war because you never know where the bullet is coming from. And then when I get to the set… suddenly,...

Singing maestros Shreya Ghoshal and Shekhar Ravjiani’s latest collaborative single ‘Vaari Vaari’ is a beautifully soulful, and emotionally fulfilling romantic song. Mixing up a grounded side with a Bollywood flair, while the music production is as poppy and Bollywood-like as can be, the video and the lyrics are much more rooted and simpler.
Musically, the song is accompanied by an ambient, shoegazing kind of electronic-pop instrumentation with some desi flair, and the duo of Shreya and Shekhar really bring out the emotions.
As such, the song isn’t power packed or anthemic but is instead, a very peaceful and mellow kind of romantic ballad which is perfect for weddings, parties, or just for driving down the road.
The song is vibrant with a different kind of energy which doesn’t pump the blood, but rather tugs at the heartstrings as the chemistry between the two singers is just that much fun and engaging.

The festival of Raksha Bandhan is one of the most awaited festivals for the Indians and the diaspora. The festival, which is celebrated on a full moon day during the Hindu month of Sawan, has a special place in the hearts of all the siblings and cousins.
Cinema, too, has given an ode to the festival in different forms, most notably in the form of relationship dynamics between the characters: a special scene which becomes the essence of storytelling or a song that outlives its artistes and the film itself.
As we celebrate Raksha Bandhan on Wednesday, here are 5 films that celebrate the spirit of this ocassion:

Shekhar Ravjiani, India’s leading singer and composer has won hearts all over the world once again with his spectacular new single, ‘Kasam Se’ – the 10th song released under Shekhar’s own record label Garuudaa Musiic which he launched earlier this year.
Mellifluous and heart-warming, ‘Kasam Se’ is a Hindi Pop song composed and produced by Shekhar Ravjiani and sung by Shekhar Ravjiani and Arijit Singh with poignant lyrics written by Priya Saraiya.
‘Kasam Se’ speaks of the kind of love that lights up the world when two souls complete each other. The song describes the restlessness of a young man who is deeply in love and lost without the one who completes him. All he asks is that she promises to always stay by his side today and forever.
‘Kasam Se’ is not just another love song; it’s an ode to love itself.

The Salman Khan-starrer sports-drama film ‘Sultan’ clocked seven years of its release on Thursday. As much as the film connected with the audience at large, it also boasted of an amazing soundtrack.
Papon, who sang ‘Bulleya’ from the film, has shared that the song’s original version was quite different compared to the final output.
Celebrating seven years of the song, Papon said, “I am truly grateful for the love and support that Bulleya has received over the past years. I would like to mention Vishal Shekhar, who composed the track and Irshad Kamil, who wrote the beautiful lyrics. It was interesting how they approached the song for me.”
The singer shared that the composers had a very different perspective towards the song. He recollected that while he was singing the song, Vishal and Shekhar took a break and had a conversation with him.
“They said, ‘Bro, let’s just think about it.

Many Asians continue to embrace arranged marriages in the sub-continent. Even in the UK, modern arranged marriages involve a variety of matchmaking practices where each family tailors its own version to suit modern identities and ambitions.
For the sizeable migrant population comprising Indians and Pakistanis, it may not be a homogeneous tradition, though by and large it remains the preferred choice.
At the heart of the story is an enterprising London-based filmmaker Zoe (Lily James), who proposes to make a documentary about Muslims and their obsession with arranged marriages. "Or assisted marriages," as her neighbour and friend Kazim (Shahzad Latif) explains.

Shekhar Suman has entertained the ‘Bigg Boss 16’ contestants with his Mc Stan avatar in the ‘Bigg Bulletin with Shekhar Suman’ segment of the reality show. He took a dig at the contestants and roasted them through his rap, saying: “Kyunki socha na tha aisa din aayega, Shekhar Suman Mc Stan ban jaayega.’
The senior actor pointed towards Shalin Bhanot and the way he created chemistry with both Tina Datta and Sumbul Touqeer. He also commented on Archana Gautam, saying she used a treatment for hair length but used it on her tongue and now it has grown.
He sarcastically made comments as she kept arguing with one or the other contestants and never followed the rules set by Bigg Boss.
Shekhar also commented on Shalin, saying that he is making connections with Tina, Sumbul and Soundarya Sharma.
His unique rapping style left everyone in splits.

Fans of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, one of Bollywood’s most enduring films have slammed the decision to cast the main male character as a white man in the upcoming Broadway musical adaptation.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, known as Ddlj, is being adapted for Broadway as Come Fall in Love – The Ddlj Musical.
When the film was released in 1995, written and directed by Aditya Chopra, it starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as Raj and Simran, a lovestruck young couple who must win over family and friends opposed to their union. The film made a total of 60million worldwide, became the highest-grossing Indian film of 1995 and is still shown in cinemas today.
Chopra will make his stage directing debut with the musical. However, the decision to cast a white man Austin Colby in the title role – and rename him as Rog – has led some critics to accuse the musical producers of “whitewashing.

What comes to your mind when you hear the word Sanam? As a Bollywood music lover, I think of none other than India’s Fantastic Four who have clocked a whopping 2.7 million subscribers (and counting!) at their YouTube channel, thanks to their wonderful renditions of retro classic hits, modern hits and original compositions.
The fantastic four comprise of brothers Sanam Puri (lead vocals) and Samar Puri (lead guitar), Venky S (bass guitar) and Keshav Dhanraj (drums). I would say they are India’s most commercially successful band, and they have enthralled audiences in various concerts both internationally and in India. As a band, Sanam have also succeeded in bridging the gap between the younger and older generations, through their retro renditions.
I have been fortunate enough to have a chat with the band, to gauge their thoughts on current music trends, whose music they like listening to, and much more!

When Shekhar Suman made critical remarks about Akshay Kumar vis-a-vis Chandni Chowk To China little did he know it would blow up into such a huge point of debate. In a reconciliatory gesture, Shekhar sent an SMS on Thursday morning apologizing to Akshay. "It was never my intention to offend Akshay. And if I've done that, then I've no hesitation in saying sorry. Akshay is too much of a good soul for me to hurt him. He should've realized my comments had nothing personal about them." Shekhar is taken aback by the backlash to his tongue-lash. "I never knew my opinion would matter so much. I reacted as an outraged viewer. I've always admired Akshay Kumar's resilient climb from the bottom rung to the top of ladder. In fact I tell my son Adhyayan that Akshay Kumar is a role model to follow. Self-made superstar." Sadly a section of Akshay's...

Bappi Lahiri is never short of surprises. Just when his new self-rendered number 'India Se Aaya Mera Dost' in Chandni Chowk To China hit the charts, he springs another surprise. "I've an unreleased song with Boy George 'When Will You Learn From Your Tears & Suffering' coming up for release very shortly." The song was recorded for a film called Deewana Hoon Main Tera some time ago. "But the song was delayed. We're ready with it now. It's a fusion song. I do raga, Boy George does pop. We had so much fun doing the song together. Boy George was filled with masti. You'll love the track." Bappi Lahiri is surprised to know Boy George is incarcerated. "Oh! What happened? Why is he in jail? When I collaborated with him he was perfectly normal. At that time he was a brilliant singer and a good human being. I don't know about his personal life.

Its Kaante Ki Takkar finale and it promises to be bigger and better than you have ever seen so far. So after we saw David Dhawan last week, this time there are the four jodis who are making us roll with laughter but guess what…even the judges are joining in the masti. The four jodis…that is Krushna and Kamya duo on the Suman’s side and Urvashi and Ali duo on the Puran side, but to add more dhamaka to this finale even the judges are stepping on the stage to perform. So, Shekhar is giving company to Urvashi and Archana to Ali. Shekhar and Urvashi, in their act, play themselves (remember.

Kaante Ki Takkar has reached its high point with four jodis running in the league. Jodis Krushna-Sudesh, Kamya-Rajeev were part of the Suman’s fighting it out opposite with the Puran’s - Ali-Kashif and Urvashi-Shakeel. The competition is fierce… but to give a fair verdict we have the baap of comedy David Dhawan as the celebrity judge.
David Dhawan made a simple entry without any hungama… this did not impress host Shruti Sheth as compared to the judges Archana and Shekhar’s royal entry for the Finale. And so Shruti urged David to come in.
