Wolverine #47 Writers: Benjamin Percy & Victor Lavalle | Artist: Geoff Shaw | Colourist: Alex Sinclair | Letters: Cory Petit
As the cover promises Laura takes the lead role for the majority of the issue. And all I can say is it’s about damn time! I have been waiting for her to play a part since the first issue. With the way this story arc has been structured it is effective to have this little detour with Laura in the driving seat. Remember we left the last issue with a strong cliffhanger so to suddenly veer off in this direction shows the strength and the confidence of the writing duo. On the subject of our dynamic duo, after 7 issues I finally noticed that on the cover either Percy or Lavalle’s name is first. Indicating who is the lead, in the case of #47 its Lavalle. I still think it’s more fun to guess though!

I really don’t want to come down too harshly on this series. On a personal level, it just wasn’t for me, but there clearly is an audience for the character. Before I get into what is good and bad about these two final issues I want to reiterate my two biggest grievances with this series. I have mentioned it in every review of every issue so far, but why couldn’t we get an X-23 mini in the current Krakoan Era? To me, it just makes so much more sense. I only found out the other day that she is now going by Talon in the X-Books! She has been part of X-Men since this era launched so a Fall of X tie-in would have been perfect. All of the stuff...

Jim Mickle is doing his victory lap right now after the successful debut of his Netflix comic book adaptation, “Sweet Tooth.” (A series that I personally think is probably the best thing he’s done in his whole career.) Now, it appears he’s sticking with comic book adaptations for his next project, “God Country.”

Humble Bundle is a great way to add some bulk to your digital comics (and games) collection while also doing some good in the world. They offer pay-what-you-want deals that let you divert however much of your purchase you want to charity, and if you spend at certain levels, you get more stuff. Since its inception, they’ve had bundles covering everything from G.I. Joe and Transformers comics to kids books or Top Shelf art books.
The latest bundle covers almost $1600 worth of collected editions from Image Comics, with proceeds being sent to two outstanding charities: the Binc Foundation, the nonprofit helping independent bookstores weather the Covid-related economic downturn; and the Hero Initiative, a nonprofit that helps provide a safety net to comic creators in need. But the question that might jump to mind for an overwhelmed reader is “Is this bundle actually a deal?”

God Country made Donny Cates into an overnight phenomenon only a few months ago. Well, as much as an overnight success a comic book writer can be. He is a person who has worked in the industry for years. That experience paid off as he teamed up with Geoff Shaw to make one of the best books of the year. Considering its success both critically and in sales, it is surprising this book is already coming to an end. They are leaving it on a high note as this is one of the best issues of the year.
Since its onset, this comic about a magical sword that gives its holder the power of a god has been a father and son story. A fact this issue directly points out. Some may take issue with a book that...

We kick off God Country #5 with a history lesson about the fall of the Kingdom of Always and the creation of Valofax. Giving us some much needed exposition as to why the sword is so important to some certain higher gods.
Attum sends his son down to our realm after Balegrim failed in his mission with the sole purpose of bringing back Valofax by any means necessary, what ensues is an epic battle for our would be hero Emmett. However once again the gods have underestimated Emmett and the power he wields. We...

Well my friends it is that time again. God Country is back in our lives and it is back with a thundering crash. So last issue set up the relationship between Emmet Quinlan and his son, whose wife is not exactly pleased with having to look after the Alzheimers stricken old man.
Emmet Quinlan has awoken and he remembers everything! After being caged in his own body for a number of years with this heinous condition, everything returns to Emmet when he wields a God like sword with immense power. However with great power comes a whole bunch of people that want what you have. God Country #2 Sees Emmet visited by one such God who believes him not worthy enough to shoulder this immense burden.

We meet Roy and we are instantly shown that he is having some trouble trying to figure out his priorities between his family and his Alzheimer’s suffering father. There is a...

This week, Legendary Comics takes you to A Town Called Dragon, a new 5-part comic book mini-series from Judd Winick and Geoff Shaw where the last known dragon egg hatches in a small Colorado town. I recently had a chance to catch up with Judd, who talked about the birth of his modern-day dragon story, a non-traditional hero, and he teased what’s coming up in future issues:
Thank you for talking with me about A Town Called Dragon today. Was this an idea you’ve been working on for a while or was it something Legendary brought to you?
Judd Winick: I had been kicking around the idea of basing it around the last dragon and then the last dragon egg. And then I was stuck for the longest time, but a little node if inspiration came in for this element of Northern Exposure meets Jaws, but with a dragon.

A Town Called Dragon General Information Released: September 24th, 2014 Publisher: Legendary Comics Writer: Judd Winick Artist: Geoff Shaw Colorist: Jamie Grant Letter: Sean Konot Book & Logo Designer: John J. Hill Associate Editor: Greg Tumbarello Editor: Bob Schreck Official Website Cbm Interviews Writer: Judd Winick (Available Soon!) Editorial Biases I tend to prefer comic books and graphic novels that are off the beaten path. Even for comics published by mainstream publishers, sometimes you get relatively unique pieces that are not really the norm. We're flooded by superheroes with brightly colored uniforms, exquisitely simple secret identities and a variety of powers, weapons and technology to boot. It's nice sometimes to get something different where the concept of less-is-more almost reigns dominant. Those are the comics I tend to love the most, because they make big statements while understating their premise, their cause, their purpose for telling their story. Whenever I get my...

The people of Dragon, Colorado want to make money off their town’s folkloric namesake, but the community’s scaly legend is a lot more literal than any of them could have imagined. In Legendary Comics’ A Town Called Dragon, a small town faces a big time fire-breathing threat, and we have release details and a look at the cover art for the first two issues.
“Every Town Has Its Secrets. This One Breathes Fire.
Legendary Comics transports you to A Town Called Dragon. On the surface it seems like your average all-American tourist trap, but this snow-covered town hides a burning secret. After centuries of lying buried within the depths of an icy mountain, the world’s last dragon egg finally hatches – endangering modern life as we know it. Now an unlikely group of dangerously unqualified, ordinary citizens must band together, battling the elements – and each other – to slay this menacing creature.

Legendary Comics' new five-issue miniseries A Town Called Dragon kicks off on September 24th, and after showing us a bit of the interior art this past June, the powers-that-be have now unveiled the cover art for Issues #1 and #2.
Geoff Shaw drew these covers plus the interior art for Judd Winick's story, described as an "action-packed modern day myth."

Buzzkill #2
Plot: Donny Cates & Mark Reznicek
Writer: Donny Cates
Artist: Geoff Shaw
Colorist: Lauren Affe
Publisher: Dark Horse
Wow.
Remember the review of Buzzkill #1 where you, dear reader, were told there wasn’t much action? That it didn’t feel like a regular comic? Issue numero dos changes that. Or at least, it changes the former. Thankfully, Buzzkill still doesn’t feel like a typical superhero story. Instead, it’s raw.
Issue #2 kicks off with storytime. It’s been a month since “Ruben” first entered AA and he’s telling them all about what-should-have-been rock bottom. We learn why Nikki left Ruben—she was captured by the wonderfully named Brutal Juice (and two “tremendously rabid Kodiak bears”). She’s rescued and we get the next piece of a puzzle. From issue #1, we know Ruben put some other supervillain in the hospital and wrecked a major city. In this flashback (with...

Buzzkill #1
Plot: Donny Cates & Mark Reznicek
Writer: Donny Cates
Artist: Geoff Shaw
Colorist: Lauren Affe
Publisher: Dark Horse
Imagine Breaking Bad‘s Jesse Pinkman. The attitude, the anger, the frustration, and the desire to do good, even if he’s not so hot at it. Now imagine when Jesse’s high he becomes a superhero. That’s Buzzkill #1. Or at least, it would be if you had to sum it up using topical pop culture references (can you believe there’s only 2 episodes of Breaking Bad left?!). “Ruben,” our hero, is not Jesse Pinkman but he’s just as interesting to watch and we have the benefit of sitting inside his head.
After a showdown in a big city, Ruben decides to put a life of superheroing behind him and head to AA. See, alcohol gives Ruben his superpowers. He needs to drink, maybe even be drunk, to get his powers.

Dark Horse Comics closed out the 2013 C2E2 by announcing five more upcoming projects that should be of interest to genre fans, in particular Witch Hunt, The Occultist, and Itty Bitty Hellboy.
Witch Hunt comes to us from Victor Gischler and Juan Ferreyra while The Occultist heralds the return of Tim Seeley. Itty Bitty Hellboy is by Eisner winners Art Baltazar and Franco Aureliani, and Donny Cates and Mark Reznicek's Buzzkill promises lots of boozin' and bruisin'. Last but not least, the more perverted among you should enjoy the hell out of Alex de Campi's Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight.

Legendary Comics have had a pretty good bag of tricks thus far into Comic-Con.
They've already announced a new series from Mark Waid, Shane Davis and Max Brooks, titled Shadow Walk. Plus they've shown a preview of The Tower Chronicles by Matt Wagner and Simon Bisley. Now they've got one more (for now).
J. Michael Straczynski is teaming up with Legendary Comics with penciler Geoff Shaw and Inker Matt Banning for a project called The Majestic Files.
If you know a thing or two about UFO culture, then you've probably already figured out this has something to do with the Majecstic-12, an alleged secret committie of scientists, military leaders, and government offiicals created to investiage tthe infamous 1947 Roswell crash.
