While TikTok has long been a conduit for comedy, its live platform is getting set to debut its first fully produced sketch comedy series, the Sam Grey-backed Stapleview.
Beginning Thursday, the show will stream along with a dedicated channel on TikTok Live, with subsequent distribution across social media. The official announcement of the venture describes Stapleview as “a modern take on sketch comedy and variety show formats featuring a collection of popular individual content creators.”
Grey, who is Stapleview’s creator and executive producer, is a former manager and producer at Management 360 and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video. He executive produced Tina Fey feature comedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and the upcoming comedy Sacramento. His late father, Brad Grey, was a noted comedy manager who went on to become CEO of Paramount Pictures.

Exclusive: Fox continues to draw on animation as a major source of development with workplace comedy Greater Good from American Dad co-creator Mike Barker and Comedy Bang! Bang! director Stoney Sharp its latest bet.
The network has committed to a script for the animated comedy, which is being developed internally at Fox Entertainment. Barker and Sharp will act as writers and exec producers on the project.
It comes a day after Deadline revealed that The Simpsons and Bob’s Burger network was developing hybrid animated-single-cam comedy Demi-God with Bella and the Bulldogs writer Katie Greenway.

It’s a workplace comedy about an international team of highly qualified but socially remedial misfits working and living in a hi-tech laboratory in the middle of rural Oklahoma. Comedy Central wants to turn comedian James Davis into its next homegrown star. The network has ordered a new series set to be created by and star Davis. His weekly show, still untitled, will premiere in January 2017.
Davis already stars in Comedy Central’s most-watched Snapchat original series, “Swag-a-Saurus with James Davis.”
