- Anna Sewell was born on March 20, 1820 in Yarmouth, Norfolk, England, UK. She was a writer, known for Black Beauty (1994), Black Beauty (1933) and Your Obedient Servant (1917). She died on April 25, 1878 in Old Catton, Norfolk, England, UK.
- Sewell did not live to enjoy the enormous success of her book; she died just three months after "Black Beauty" was published. At her funeral her mother, Mary Wright Sewell, noticed that all the horses in the funeral procession were wearing the cruel bearing reins which Black Beauty protests against. Mary insisted that the reins be removed, which they were.
- Now I say that with cruelty and oppression it is everybody's business to interfere when they see it.
