Beloved Canadian series “Life with Derek” has a spinoff movie. Premiering in 2005, the original sitcom followed the shenanigans of teenage step-siblings Derek [Michael Seater] and Casey [Ashley Leggat] as they jockeyed for top-dog status in the blended family. “Life with Derek” aired for four seasons, but with TV revivals all the rage these days, it was only a matter of time before the comedy received a reboot entitled “Life with Luca”.
“We are that nostalgic show,” Leggat tells Et Canada. “Hindsight is always 20/20, but you look back and we did something really amazing. The amount of people, too, that say ‘I did better in school because of Casey. I used her study method and it helped me get my medical license.’ It’s crazy to me that these characters resonated so much with people.”

Life With Derek sure looks a lot different now! The beloved family sitcom, which aired on Disney Channel from 2005 to 2009, is being rebooted for a movie called Life with Luca. Ashley Leggat, who played Casey McDonald on all four seasons of the show, shared four behind-the-scenes pictures from production, which appears to have already wrapped! "We're backkkk!!! Had the time of my life filming Life With Luca," Ashley tweeted Aug. 31. "I can't wait for you all to see what Derek & Casey have been up to in the last 15 years." In one of the pictures, Michael Seater, who plays Derek, is seen giving her a kiss on the cheek. Predictably, fans of Life With...

Fans of the early 2000s hit family series Life With Derek will be happy to know the cast has reunited onscreen once again! On August 31, the stars of the Disney Channel classic shared photos from the set of a new spinoff movie, Life with Lucas. It continues the trend of beloved ’90s and early 2000s YA shows being rebooted or revived for a modern audience. When we last left the teens, both Derek (Michael Seater) and Casey (Ashley Leggat) had been accepted to the same university, ready to head off to college. The new feature will focus on what has happened to our favorite step-siblings in the last 15 years. Both are now raising families of their own, in completely different ways, of course. Leggat took to Twitter to post photos with her onscreen step-brother and mother, as well as the new kids in the cast. John Ralston, ...

It's been years since Life With Derek, a Canadian sitcom that aired in syndication on Disney Channel, wrapped up, but here we are, debating whether there was incest at the heart of it. Yep, you read that right. The show ran for four seasons from 2005-2009 with a follow-up movie, Vacation With Derek, and told the tale of the Venturi-McDonald clan. The blended family living in Canada included Casey McDonald (Ashley Leggat), Derek Venturi (Michael Seater), their siblings and parents George Venturi (John Ralston) and Nora McDonald (Joy Tanner). A typical sitcom premise, nothing really special here…until you look at the relationship between Casey and Derek. And that's what some Twitter users did. It's sending them...

Thanks to its over-the-top jargon and the self-absorbed nature of many of the people who work within it, the advertising industry is a strong target for satire. The Brief, a new web series from Matt Sadowski and Dustin Brown, provides exactly that. It takes the life experiences of its creative team and uses them to construct a number of ridiculous scenarios set in the agency world.
The Brief stars Jesse Rath and Michael Seater as a copywriter and an art director, respectively. Despite their odd couple relationship, they must work together in order to come out on top in an agency filled with ridiculous characters. Right from the top of the first episode, the jokes fly fast and free; Sadowski’s script is filled with cheeky dialogue that highlights the absurd nature of the characters he has created.

Like a teenaged C.C. Baxter, Brian (Michael Seater) loans his van out to his buddies for sex (to have in, not with), but he’s dying to lose his virginity and get in on the greasy fun. Luckily a popular guy named Tony (Bo Burnham) takes him under his wing, and things go completely off track in Adventures in the Sin Bin. I thought it might have been a hockey movie, too. From the looks of the trailer, it’s as charming and off-kilter as any coming-of-age sex comedy with the added benefit of Jeff Garlin, Tim Blake Nelson and Gillian Jacobs rounding out some roles. Plus, Burnham looks on fire here as a smarmy operator. Check it out for yourself: Adventures in the Sin Bin is the first feature from director Billy Federighi, and it hits theaters October 18th.

Good morning and welcome to the most action-packed episode of Bomb Girls yet. Last week, Kate delved into a life of sin in an attempt to gain more jazz credibility, Betty let Ivan make all kinds of hockey metaphors in the back seat of his car in an attempt to gain some hetero credibility, and Lorna’s son, Eugene arrived home on leave from Europe.
Ok. Right from the get-go I have serious reservations about Eugene, who the show opens dancing in the living room with Sheila. To the untrained eye, the scene is as wholesome as a Rockwell painting, but I’ve found that there is a direct correlation between a man’s assholism and his conviction that everyone he meets needs to see the outline of his penis, and that whole long underwear/temple garb ensemble leaves far too little to the imagination.

Young filmmakers often reference their heroes outright. This isn't a phenomenon exclusive to creatively wayward directors; look at the early films of genuine auteur Paul Thomas Anderson to see wholesale theft from Martin Scorsese and Robert Altman (to name a few). But when the references are a distraction to the point of actively taking away from the enjoyment of the movie, that's when things become a problem. And it's a problem that plagues the otherwise wonderful "Sin Bin," a charming little comedy about a high school kid (Michael Seater) who rents his beat-up van out to his fellow students for sexual liaisons, which owes such a stylistic debt to the films of Wes Anderson that it makes you think somewhat less of the movie. From the beginning, the movie seems to be tipping its hat to Anderson. Examples abound – the super-thick Futura bold font utilized for the title cards; the...

Last week, The CW pulled 18 to Life after just three weeks on the air. The series was confirmed as cancelled but one of the TV show's producers says that the network hasn't given up on the series yet.
18 to Life tells the tale of two best friends who end up getting married at an early age and, to the dismay of their families. The show's cast includes Michael Seater, Stacey Farber, Alain Goulem, Angela Asher, Jesse Rath, Kaniehtiio Horn, Arielle Shiri, Peter Keleghan, Ellen David, Erin Agostino, Carl Alacchi, Samantha Moore, and Raphael Cohen-Demers.
On The CW, the show got off to a poor start in the ratings and the debut ranked in last place for the timeslot. Later installments brought fewer viewers. After last week's pair of episodes, the network decided to pull the show from the schedule, leaving six installments...

This week at Tribeca Flashpoint, we're proud to host an advance screening of the new film Sin Bin with director Billy Federighi. A team of eight Tribeca Flashpoint students and recent graduates recently completed work on this coming-of-age comedy, filmed here in Chicago and starring Michael Seater, Emily Meade and Bo Burnham. Here is the film synopsis from screen writer/producer Chris Storer: Sin Bin is a high school take on The Apartment and the constant quest to find our own personal space. The film explains what happens when Brian, a high school senior, loans out his van, lovingly-referred to as 'the Sin Bin,' to his friends as a spot to bring dates and serve as a portable apartment. While the film is a teen comedy, it quickly turns into a story of friendship, family, and Chicagoland... a...

The CW debuted a new comedy this week called 18 to Life. Like The Bridge, The Listener, and Flashpoint, this series was originally produced for Canadian television. Canadian shows have had mixed success in the Us so, how did this one fare?
The 18 to Life series revolves around Tom (Michael Seater) and Jessie (Stacey Farber), a pair of 18-year-old best friends who have grown up next door to each other. After a game of truth-or-dare gets out of hand, they run away, get married, and eventually move into Tom's family's attic. As a result, the couple's two very different families -- one free-spirited, one uptight --must finally learn how to get along with each other. The rest of the cast includes Peter Keleghan, Ellen David, Alain Goulem, Angela Asher, Arielle Shiri, and Tiio Horn.

It’s getting to that point in the summer where good, new television is hard to come by, which causes us to settle for reruns of Law & Order: Svu just to see how quickly we can guess the crime and criminal (ready, go: rape, creepy co-worker, time!). Sure there’s the great outdoors, but with bugs and humidity, eh, it’s overrated. Fear not, lost and lonely viewers, the CW is attempting to reel your wandering eyes in with the new sitcom 18 to Life, starring Michael Seater (Life with Derek) and Stacey Farber (Degrassi: The Next Generation).

'18 to Life,' the Canadian comedy picked up by The CW to help combat summer's dearth of scripted television, makes its American debut tonight at 9Pm Et.
Starring kiddie TV vets Stacey Farber ('Degrassi: The Next Generation') and Michael Seater ('Life With Derek'), the show follows high school sweethearts who get married on a dare. '18 to Life' is already a hit in its homeland (a second season is filming in Montreal right now), but it's new territory for American audiences.
Will you tune in? Here are five good reasons why we think you should watch:

Perhaps hoping to inject some life into its current Tuesday night line-up of 'One Tree Hill' and 'Life Unexpected' repeats, the CW has snagged the rights to '18 to Life' for a quick Aug. 3 premiere date (9Pm), according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Canadian comedy was developed jointly by the CBS and ABC, but the latter never imported it stateside.
Despite being on a lower-profile network, at least the CBC can be pleased with a Tuesday launch rather than the disastrous Saturday launch CBS recently gave to 'The Bridge.' 'Life Unexpected' has been averaging between 500,000 and 600,000 viewers in that timeslot, so it won't take much for back-to-back half hours of '18' to improve the CW's fortunes.

Get ready to set your DVR, tweeners: On Sept. 3, the Disney Channel will premiere the Jonas Brothers-Demi Lovato movie Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. As long as it's not grape-flavored, I'm in. [MTV] Ice Cube and Woody Harrelson are set to star in Rampart, a movie written by James Ellroy that's centered on police corruption. Cube will play a detective, while Harrelson has bagged the role of a dirty cop. Not to be confused with dirty pop. (Early 2000s flashback!) Sarah Silverman is in talks to star alongside Seth Rogen and Michelle Williams in the dramedy Take This Waltz.

Toronto -- The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. is ready to pick up locally produced single-camera comedy "18 to Life," even with pilot partner ABC out of the picture.
The Montreal-set sitcom, from indie producer Galafilm, portrays 18-year-old neighbors, played by Stacey Farber and Michael Seater, who get married on a dare only to face criticism from their parents and friends.
Last summer, ABC brokered a deal with Alchemy Television for U.S. rights to "18 to Life," marking the first time a Canadian and a U.S. network partnered on a Canadian primetime comedy. But while the U.S. network screened the Canadian pilot, it said Tuesday that it is no longer involved with the project.
Rounding out the sitcom's cast are Peter Keleghan, Al Goulem, Ellen David and newcomers Tommie-Amber Pirie and Ariel Shiri.
Derek Schreyer and Karen Troubetzkoy created and executive produced the sitcom, with Ian Whitehead producing and Peter Wellington directing the pilot.
