We're not going to lie - when we found out that Zoe Birkett was entering the Big Brother house earlier this week, the Digital Spy office got very excited indeed. What a blast from the past - and how much the "little podgy kid from Pop Idol with the dreadlocks" (her words, not ours) has grown up in the last 13 years. But it got us thinking - what happened to the other contestants? We put on our deerstalker, pulled out our magnifying glass and started digging...

Hitchcock’s War Face
By Raymond Benson
Alfred Hitchcock’s 1940 film Foreign Correspondent is often underrated or forgotten when it comes to lists of the director’s “best” films. In fact, it was nominated for an Oscar Best Picture the same year as Rebecca (which won), and, personally, I think it’s the better movie. It’s certainly more of a “Hitchcock film” than Rebecca, as it is one of those cross-country espionage adventure-thrillers along the lines of The 39 Steps, Saboteur, and North by Northwest.
It was the director’s second Hollywood movie. Although Hitchcock was contracted to David O. Selznick (who produced Rebecca), Hitch’s deal allowed Selznick to “farm out” the director to other studios and producers, for a piece of Hitchcock’s salary, of course. In this case, Foreign Correspondent was produced by Walter Wanger (who had also produced John Ford’s Stagecoach). It’s interesting that...

The future of ITV’s Dancing On Ice has been put in jeopardy, after the studio they normally use was booked for the new Harry Potter movie.
The reality TV show is normally filmed in Elstree Studios, in the same complex that contains the Big Brother house and the ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ set. However The Sun claims that this year it has been booked for filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two.
An insider told the newspaper: “This has thrown a spanner in the works.
“We need a massive space for the show. There are only so many studios that can accommodate us and most are booked.
“We’ve been looking at Pinewood Studios, where they film James Bond, but they are looking pretty booked out. We may need to build our own rink somewhere, which would not be cheap.”

A fat Take That tribute band caused a major security alert at Elstree yesterday when someone overheard them saying they wanted to break into the Big Brother house.
Gary Lardow, Blobbie Williams, Howard McDonald’s, Jason Chocolate Orange and Mark Growin were filming at nearby studios when they talked about scaling the garden wall and performing for housemates. Someone passed their supposed intentions onto producers, who then called the police.
Take Fat member Blobbie Williams told The Sun:
“We were having a drink in the hotel bar and I said it would be funny if we got into the Big Brother garden and performed for the housemates.
“Someone overheard us and told the producers. The next day we were hauled in and told that we had caused a breach of security.”
Blobbie said: “We had to assure them that it had all been a joke. As if five fat blokes could get over the wall!

Faye Tozer has claimed that pop band Steps are "closer friends" now than when they were together. The pop collective - which featured Tozer, Claire Richards, 'H', Lee Latchford-Evans and Lisa Scott-Lee - scored 14 consecutive top five singles before splitting in 2001. Tozer said that the five-piece now regularly speak and email each other, admitting that old tensions are now "water under the bridge" for the band. "I would say that we are probably closer friends now than when we were together because we have more in common," she told Digital Spy. "There is water under the bridge from back in the day and we are very supportive of each other. The girls have got kids now, so that makes it important to stay in touch. It's not something that we can brush aside because the band was such a huge part (more)...

Beth Grant, Los AngelesLine-Item BudgetingI am in the throes of readying for a "personal appearance" trip for the Human Rights Campaign in Cleveland. Then on to the Wilmington, N.C., Azalea Festival; East Carolina University; and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. As soon as I return, I leave for San Diego to begin rehearsals for Mark V. Olsen's new play, Cornelia, at the Old Globe. While preparing for my trip, I am writing this column and my speech for Hrc, rewriting my script, continuing to have business appointments, and consulting with the filmmakers of Herpes Boy, the independent comedy I helped produce last summer. We now have a website, Herpes Boy; a terrific trailer; and a film. We are submitting to festivals and looking for the perfect salesperson.I am also helping my daughter pack for her camping trip and attempting to eat well and exercise,...
