Line-up includes new features by Dario Argento, Jacob Tierney and Fantasia alumni Rob Grant and Kerry Prior.
Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival has announced the Off-Frontières selection for this year’s Frontières International Co-Production Market.
The line-up of 12 projects features projects from Canada, Mexico and the UK, among others, and includes the next features from Dario Argento and Jacob Tierney as well as follow-up features from Fantasia alumni Rob Grant, Pat Kiely, Kerry Prior and Olivier Sabino.
Stephanie Trepanier, Frontières creative director, told Screen: “The Off-Frontières line-up of project always allows us to include more projects we believe in, but couldn’t fit in the official 12-projects selection because of quota limitations or because the project is more advanced than the scope we set for the official Frontières line-up.

It’s not possible to define or categorize the work of writer-director Michael Almereyda in simple terms. Turning in interesting, arresting film work since the early 1980s, across a number of disciplines, he moves between genres with ease and develops passionate projects. Up until now, his most well-known film has been 2000′s Hamlet, starring Ethan Hawke, although that may well change once his upcoming project, The Experimenter, is in the can.
Starring Peter Sarsgaard (Blue Jasmine), the film tells the story of famous social psychologist Stanley Milgram, who designed the Obedience Experiments at Yale University in 1961. The experiments observed the responses of people who were made to believe they were sending painful electric shocks to strangers. The producers of this independent project – Uri Singer, Fabio Golombek, Aimee Schoof and Isen Robbins – explained that The Experimenter will encompass much more than just one set of research, however:

Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave pulled a five finger discount at the 2014 Indie Spirit Awards grabbing hardware in the Best Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress and Best Cinematography categories. Apart from the larceny in the Best Doc category, the winners in the above mention category (excluding Bobbitt’s work) and the double win pairing of Leto and McConaughey along with Cate Blanchett’s perf win in Blue Jasmine will likely repeat itself less than 24 hours later at tomorrow’s Academy Awards celebrations obviously begging many to ponder the following: who needs the 86th Academy Awards when we have the Indie Spirit Awards? While today’s most pleasurable wins come from the truly indie kudos for Best First Feature (Ryan Coogler for Frutivale Station) the John Cassavetes award for Chad Hartigan’s This is Martin Bonner, and the Piaget Producers Award to Ain’t Them Bodies Saints...

A film that just might be this year's award's season sleeper, given that virtually no one is talking about it right now - especially when conversations are had about black actors who might be in the running for performance trophies. If Sundance’s principle mission is to showcase future filmmaking talent, then they’ll probably want to stamp their film fest laurels on this French born, Filmmaker Magazine Top 25 New Faces (Summer ’12) talent’s debut pic with who many agree might be one of those helmers that moves from a curriculum vitae of eye-popping commercials and video clips (most notably Niggas in Paris) to getting tons of feature film offers after his first try. Alexandre Moors appears to have finished principle photography somewhere in 2011 – meaning that there may have been a lot of progress (2012 Independent Filmmaker Labs) since he gave us this early snippet. Loaded with faces we’ve seen at previous Sundance editions: Joey Lauren Adams, Tim Blake Nelson, Leo Fitzpatrick, and Isaiah Washington (who takes on the role of John Allen Muhammad) this should be positioned for the fest via the huge team of producers.

Isaiah Washington is set to play John Allen Williams in Alexandre Moors' thriller "Blue Caprice" which deals with the sniper attacks that terrorized the Washington, DC, area in October 2002 says The Live Feed.
Williams went a shooting spree with a young accomplice that took the lives of at least ten randomly selected people. The pair were caught when the blue Chevy Caprice car they used was recognised. Williams was executed in 2009.
Isen Robbins and Aimee Schoof are producing. Shooting begins late next month in New York City.

This is a milestone: it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that a live-action adaptation of Last Blood, a webcomic first published on Keenspot back in 2006, is in the works with Simon Hunter (The Mutant Chronicles) directing with an anticipated 2012 release. To our knowledge, this is the furthest any webcomic has gone towards being adapted into a feature film.
The premise is amazingly simple: After zombies take over the Earth, vampires must protect the last surviving humans so they can live off their blood. Wackiness, as they say, ensues.
Last Blood will be produced by Ironclad exec producer Christian Arnold-Beutel as well as Red Giant Media’s Aimee Schoof, Isen Robbins and Benny R. Powell, and Chris and Bobby Crosby. The Crosby siblings created the graphic novel with illustrator Owen Gieni, and Bobby Crosby wrote the script with Nick V. Sterling.
