Entertainer famous for his comedy, songs and patter
Worked in a double act with Leslie Holmes, billed as "The Two Leslies".
During World War I, he served as a private in the London Scottish Regiment and the Royal Army Medical Corps in France and Salonika, and was awarded the Silver War Badge.
Music hall comedian, variety and radio performer and writer of nonsense songs, on stage from the age of fourteen. Well-known numbers include "Jollity Farm", "Ain't it Grand to be Blooming well Dead" and "He Played his Ukulele as the Ship Went Down".
He appeared with Avril Angers in a documentary 'Notice to Quit'.
