CBS has canceled both the police procedural “East New York” and “True Lies” after just one season.
According to sources, the decision to cancel the series came down to CBS haggling with the series’ studio Warner Bros. Television over the show’s budget, which included CBS asking that the cast of the show not get the customary pay increases going into the second season. It has previously been reported that CBS has renewed other shows on its lineup, like the comedy “Bob Hearts Abishola,” after asking the cast to take pay cuts or by shifting series regulars to recurring status.
The drama series starred Amanda Warren as deputy inspector Regina Haywood, the newly promoted boss of the 74th Precinct in East New York, a working-class neighborhood on the edge of Brooklyn in the midst of social upheaval and the early seeds of gentrification. There will be no second season for CBS’ True Lies. The network has canceled the reboot of James Cameron’s hit 1994 action comedy movie after one season. The news comes ahead of the show’s Season 1 finale on May 17.
The decision is not surprising. True Lies has not been able to find an audience, ranking as CBS’ lowest-rated scripted series of the season. Its ratings remained relatively steady, indicating a loyal core audience, but they stayed low.

It took an extra day but True Lies, which had been expected to get a nod yesterday, along with CBS’ other new series orders, is officially picked up to series. As Deadline reported yesterday, the reboot of James Cameron’s hit 1994 action comedy movie, from Matt Nix, McG, Cameron and 20th Television, is targeted for midseason. It joins CBS’ other newly picked up hourlong series, Fire Country, East New York and So Help Me Todd, which are expected to be on the fall schedule.
It is no surprise that CBS and True Lies studio 20th Television needed an extra day to hammer out a deal given the companies’ complicated history over the last decade. This is 20th TV’s first hourlong series order at CBS in 12 years, since dramedy Chaos, whose initial series pickup dramatically fell through after the two sides could not agree on a deal. Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence and her "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" director Francis Lawrence are re-teaming for the James Cameron-produced true story tale "The Dive" for Lightstorm Entertainment.
The tragic true story tale deals with Francisco 'Pipin' Ferraras and Audrey Mestre, a married couple who competed to travel as deep as possible underwater on a single breath of air.
Lawrence will play Mestre, who died during an attempt to beat her own world record of 557.7 feet. Ferraras paid tribute to his late wife by diving to the same depth in an attempt that was filmed by Cameron.
Rae Sanchini and Barry Josephson will also produce.

David Goyer is a busy man. After guiding the stories of The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, Batman Vs. Superman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s upcoming take on Sandman, he is now being lined up to write the treatment for a big screen remake of 1966 sci-fi classic, Fantastic Voyage.
The movie is being made by Twentieth Century Fox and James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, with Cameron, Jon Landau, and Rae Sanchini all set to produce along with Goyer.
Shane Salerno, Cormac and Marianne Wibberly, and Laeta Kalogridis are among those who have taken a crack at developing Fantastic Voyage over the years, and while we haven’t heard much about the project since 2011, Goyer’s involvement promises to kick-start the project.
The studio is hoping that Fantastic Voyage will be an event-sized tentpole for them (and potentially a new franchise), and it has been placed on the fast track following the acquisition of Goyer.

James Cameron has been attempting to float a new version of 1960s sci-fi adventure Fantastic Voyage for years now. But despite a variety of actors and directors flirting with the idea, the remake has remained frustratingly locked in development hell. Cameron has now turned to Dark Knight/Man Of Steel writer David Goyer to crack at least the treatment, which is giving the 20th Century Fox project a shot to the arm.The original saw a group of scientists miniaturized and injected into the body of an ailing politician in an attempt to sort out his health issues via their tiny submarine. Of course, the mission doesn’t go as smoothly as planned, and the team faces threats from without (the body naturally deploys its defenses against the intruders) and within (it turns out there’s a traitor among them). What exactly will happen in the new version, which Cameron...

David Goyer ("Man of Steel," "Batman Begins") has been tapped to write the treatment for a remake of 1966 sci-fi classic "Fantastic Voyage" at James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox.

A while before “John Carter” set Disney’s bank accounts on fire with its financial woes, a comic book adaptation by the name of “Green Lantern” had a similar situation, failing to generate much box office heat in the overcrowded summer of 2011. Much in the way Disney has done with “John Carter,” a lot of the blame was shifted to the helmer -- in the case of “Green Lantern” it was “Casino Royale” director Martin Campbell. Though if “John Carter” helmer Andrew Stanton can follow in the footsteps of Campbell as he emerges from the wreckage of his own box office flop, perhaps he’ll be doing alright for himself. While it was practically a given Campbell wouldn’t be returning to guide Hal Jordan through a “Green Lantern 2,” he’s already lined up an impressive slate of work, taking over for Joe Carnahan on the thriller “Umbra” as well...

Exclusive: 20th Century Fox has attached Martin Campbell to direct and J. Michael Straczynski (Changeling) to write The Dive, the true, tragic love story of freediver Francisco “Pipin” Ferraras and his wife Audrey Mestre. The pic was originally a James Cameron-directing vehicle and he and his Lightstorm team of Jon Landau and Rae Sanchini are producing with Barry Josephson. Pic tells the story of two pre-eminent free-divers who, with but a breath of air in their lungs, plunged to unimaginable depths before swimming back to the surface. Mestre died during an attempt to better her world record to 557.7 feet. From a submersible, Cameron filmed Ferraras as he did a tribute dive in memory of his late wife, plunging to the depth that cost her life.

Yay, time to wait 4 to 5 years for James Cameron’s next film! Again! Woohoo!
James Cameron is lazy. There, I said it. I know the technology to make his films are complex and take a lot of time to make, but come on; does it always have to take 5 years to make a film? Seriously, ever since Titanic, Jim has taken his time with the making of the films. Then again, if I was as rich as James Cameron, I guess I wouldn’t want to work either. But after much speculation on what he would do next he has announced his next projects. Cameron’s next couple films will be Avatar 2 and 3, due out in December 2014 and December 2015, respectively.
So this basically means that both Battle Angle Alita and his Cleopatra project will be put on the back burner. And in Cleopatra’s case, it will probably have to find a new director.

The biggest movie in the world is getting not one, but two sequels! Deadline is reporting that in order to make these sequels happen, Cameron is leaving Sony Pictures' "Cleopatra" with Angelina Jolie attached to star as the Queen of the Nile.
The director will instead focus on making "Avatar 2 and 3" for Fox and will shoot both movies back-to-back for December 2014 and 2015 releases. See Fox's complete "Avatar" press release below.
So why did Cameron dumped Sony and stay with Fox for his "Avatar" films? Deadline revealed that the director "is telling Hollywood that Fox made a "huge" donation to his environmental green fund, and in return he committed to making the Avatar sequel and threequel his next films."

It's official, the next two films James Cameron will direct is Avatar parts 2 and 3. So it looks like he and Fox were able to work out a deal, which is what Cameron was waiting for before he officially announced it. So prepare to travel back to Pandora, but not any time soon. These films are going to take a while to develop. There was a possibility that Cameron would be directing Angelina Jolie's Cleopatra film, but it looks like that's not going to happen now.
Cameron will start writing the scripts for the two films early next year. He want's to start production on them in late 2011. After Cameron is done writing the scripts he will decide on whether or not he will direct the films back to back. The second film is targeting a release date of December 2014, and the third film will be released in December of 2015.

James Cameron has committed to directing the Avatar sequels because Fox donated a bunch of money to his environmental green fund, Deadline reports. It seems like a rash decision to dedicate a half-decade of your life for, but passion is not a weak trait for Cameron. The director was looking at his Cleopatra 3D project with Angelina Jolie, but had to drop it for this. He aims to shoot Avatar 2 & 3 back-to-back starting in late 2011 for a 2014 release, followed by a 2015 debut for the third. Check out the full press release below.

Hot news people! Thanks to Deadline, we now know that James Cameron’s next movies will be Avatar 2 and Avatar 3. According to the news released by Fox earlier today.
According to the release, Avatar 2 will be with us December 2014 with Avatar 3 fallowing December 2015. Both seems a very very long way away but when you consider how long the first movie took to make, it’s sort of understandable. Production is scheduled to begin late 2011.
This now puts the rumours about him directing Cleopatra as his next project to bed. Last week I was at an event with him there and he seemed very unsure as to what was going to happen but now we know the truth (and he may have known then anyway!). Keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks with content from the trip!
So what do you think about this news? Are you...
