Ufc
Coming off a Pay-per-View that was really only saved by its main event (Ufc 179) and a pair of Ufc Fight Nights in a single weekend that couldn’t have been more different (the exciting Fight Night 55 and disappointing Fight Night 56), the Ufc returns with a conundrum of a card at Ufc 180. Plagued by injuries that saw Diego Sanchez and Joe Lauzon, amongst others, both depart from the card, and a critical injury to headliner and heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, Ufc 180 has lost a lot of its shine – but there are still three key fights that have major relevance to the featherweight, welterweight and heavyweight divisions.
Not the least of these is the heavyweight division, where an interim heavyweight champion will be crowned. Since defeating Brock Lesnar years ago, Cain Velasquez has fought only two men, a total of five times between them: Antonio Silva (twice), and Junior Dos Santos...

We’ve had a lull in the world of the Ufc over the past few weeks, and while there have been Bellator and Wsof events to fill the gap, in general, much more has happened outside of the cage than inside it. Most of this is due to the cancellation of Ufc 176, which was to kick off August, but even still, there was to be a week without an event on the schedule, something that is becoming more and more of a rarity with the promotion these days.
Well, the calm before the storm is over, as the Ufc returns next weekend, this time in Bangor, Maine, with Ufc Fight Night: Bader vs. Saint Preux, numerically Ufc Fight Night 47. Following that, the promotion will once against hold two events in a single day a week later, with Ufc Fight Night: Bisping vs. Le and Ufc Fight Night: Henderson vs. Dos...

There’s a silver lining in last Saturday’s main card loss of fighter Ross Pearson.
As the fallout from Ufc Fight Night 42 continues – Jason High being cut from the Ufc for shoving a ref, questions surrounding drug testing and judging, and a supposed fish hook by Bryan Caraway that was not caught on camera – the Ufc has stepped in to right at least one wrong.
According to a report on Ufc.com, the promotion will pay co-main event fighter Ross Pearson his win bonus, despite having lost the match.
Pearson lost a controversial decision to Diego Sanchez at the event, with judges seeing the bout 30-27 and 29-28 for Sanchez, while a single judge watched the same fight the rest of the world did, scoring a 30-27 for Pearson.

Questions have been raised about drug testing preformed at Ufc Fight Night 42.
The issue of testing at the event has been brought into question by Dean Amasinger, the former Ultimate Fighter contestant from Nottingham, England, who was in Ross Pearson’s corner for his controversial bout with Diego Sanchez this past weekend. Amasinger has gone on record to state that while at the event, Pearson, who was tested, happened to get a glimpse at the list of fighters due for drug testing that night. The testing, handled by the New Mexico State Athletic Commission, was supposed to be random, however, not a single New Mexico based fighter, nor any fighter training under the Jackson-Winklejohn training camp, which is based in New Mexico, appeared on the list. Pearson reported the news back to his team mate, who relayed the news in comments to MMAJunkie.

Hot off a controversial split decision at Ufc Fight Night 42, Diego Sanchez has offered Ross Pearson a rematch.
Saturday’s 3-round lightweight bout between the two was yet another example of questionable judging in the Mma world. Calls for reform have gone unanswered for years in the Mma community; the sport uses the 10-point must system adopted from boxing, and far too often, judges selected by local athletic commissions struggle to apply the scoring system to Mma bouts, or worse, are not familiar enough with the sport to be Mma judges in the first place.
Thus while Sanchez walked away with the win Saturday, most fans and media members saw the bout in favor of Ross “The Real Deal” Pearson – as did one judge, who scored it 30-27 for the Real Deal. A second judge scored the bout 29-28 Sanchez, and a third, straining all credibility, gave a 30-27 to Sanchez.

Benson “Smooth” Henderson continued to roll over anyone not named “Anthony Pettis” at Ufc Fight Night 42 Saturday.
In the main event of last night’s Ufc Fight Night 42: Henderson vs. Khabilov, former lightweight champ Benson “Smooth” Henderson faced off against Russian born sambo fighter Rustan Khabilov in a fight that showed the smooth one deserves to stay in the title mix at 155, while original Ultimate Fighter Diego “The Dream” Sanchez attempted to bring back his “Nightmare” persona for a home town brawl against Ross Pearson, earning a controversial split decision in the co-headling fight.
Ufc Fight Night 42 saw the main card open with a Bantamweight scrap between Bryan Caraway and Érik Pérez. Caraway controlled in the opening stanza, while Pérez came out with an energetic takedown early in the second only to see it reversed by his opponent. Caraway then managed to control from his opponent’s back, sinking...

Earlier this week, WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan sat down with Wgrd 97.9 radio in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he talked about his WWE career. The interview was conducted by Shaffee, who is a knowledgeable wrestling fan that spoke to Bryan about his wrestling past, his start in WWE and of course about what’s happening in WWE right now.
In the interview, Bryan speaks about a lot of things relating to his current run in WWE. There were definitely parts of the interview where Bryan was in character a lot, but part of his appeal is that he’s a very real guy that isn’t playing an over the top character either.
Bryan spoke about how the “Yes” chant started after he won the World Title for the first time as a way to anger the fans because he had turned heel at that point. In...

A former Miss Venezuela and her ex-husband were shot to death in front of their five year old daughter on Jan. 6. Now her family is speaking out, saying they pleaded with her to leave her scary and dangerous home country before her tragic death.
Monica Spear, 29, was shot to death while on vacation with her ex-husband, Thomas Henry Berry, 39, and their daughter Maya. Monica’s brother, Ricardo Spear Mootz, says the family wanted Monica to stay out of the country, which already has a reported 70 murders in the first week of 2104. “She loved her country too much,” he said.

Think about how you feel after Bruce Buffer announces a split decision. Think about the chances that the two judges that happened to agree also agreed with you. Think very seriously about the emotions that run through your body after you watch a fight for 15 to 25 minutes only to have the judges disagree on the outcome. If those emotions that you’re feeling range anywhere from negative to psychotic rage, you may want to stop reading this article now because the future of Mma may alarm you.
If you have decided to keep reading, you are about to find out what 2013 has in store for you as a fight fan in terms of the dreaded split decision. And the results are anything but exciting.
No one in the fight game knows better about split decisions than Leonard Garcia: when I spoke with Mr. Garcia last he said that recalling a...

The Ufc returns to Japan this weekend with another Fuel TV card and, in truth, this one is pretty freaking stacked from top to bottom. For the complete preview of the card, including Facebook prelims, fellow WhatCulture.com columnist, Mitchell Stucky, joined me on the Getting Lucky Mma Podcast (E030). Main card preview below.
Main Card Preview
Dong Hyun Kim (16-2-1, 1) vs. Siyar Bahadurzada (21-4-1), Ww: Kim is a world class grappler and judoka, which was evident in his utter dismantling of Paulo Thiago, Bjj black belt, on the ground back at Ufc: Macao. The only people to defeat Kim are Demian Maia, the best Bjj master in all of mixed martial arts, and Carlos Condit, a fighter that is surprisingly effective in his offense from the guard and extremely well rounded in all areas.
Siyar makes a great story as an Afghan fighter with tremendous power, 11 KOs.

Last time Quinton "Rampage" Jackson lost a fight in the Octagon (a July 2008 war with Forrest Griffin) all hell broke loose. Fueled by energy drinks, a lack of sleep, and God knows what else, Rampage led police on a high speed chase through the streets and even onto the sidewalks of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach, California. After a three round shellacking at the hands of Rashad Evans, I hope someone has Rampage's keys.
The two Ultimate Fighter coaches feuded for almost an entire calendar year, including several tense face-to-face confrontations that seemed on the brink of becoming physical. After all the banter and promises of epic levels of violence, the actual fight was a strategic and strangely clinical affair. Evans used his speed and superior athleticism to avoid Jackson's power shots and take the former champion to the mat at will.

Anderson Silva Doesn't Care What You Think
Something happened during the third round of the Anderson Silva-Demian Maia middleweight title fight that pushed the main event into the Twilight Zone.
For the next 10 minutes Silva juked, jived, danced, ran, hid behind the referee and generally mocked Maia all the while fans rained down boos. Anderson was a predator, playing with his wounded prey and the crowd demanded that he finish the fight out of common decency, or at least act like he cared about being there.
At one moment, I fully expected Rod Serling to step out from behind the curtain with a cigarette in his hand to pass along a wise parable of a man destroying his reputation through his own hubris.
Depending upon who you read, Anderson is either a horrible jerk for "clowning around" or Silva is a supremely talented, yet woefully misunderstood martial artist.

Ufc Undisputed 2010 is already being billed as the top contender for fighting games for this year. With Brock Lesner as its headliner and over 100 members of the Ufc roster playable in the game, it may feature the most unique number of matchups on any fighting game released this year.
And as last year’s titled has shown us, it isn’t about mastering combos like Down-to-Right + Strong Punch like the classic Street Fighter II days and racking up overblown combos. It is about innovative gameplay and strategy both on the players and developers part.
Ever trying to improve on their fighting systems like they did with the SmackDown vs. Raw series, Thq has announced some additional features making their debut in this year’s Ufc Undisputed 2010:
Full upper body and head movement with a new Sway System New Posture System that allows for stronger, fight-ending strikes from the ground...

With playoff implications hanging in the balance in the NFL, hot stove moves happening all over baseball and the grand spectacle of the Army/Navy football game, it was an excellent weekend for sports. But anybody who caught Ufc 107 on pay-per-view on Saturday night (December 12) was treated to the best set of performances of the weekend. The show was excellent from top to bottom (save for the typically dull Jon Fitch fight), and featured impressive performances from Frank Mir (who tapped out fellow heavyweight Cheick Kongo in just over a minute), Kenny Florian (who made Clay Guida bleed like a stuck pig before choking him out) and B.J. Penn, who put up a good argument for himself as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He took a skilled wrestler and striker in Diego Sanchez and made him completely impotent. Penn beat on him solidly for four rounds, and the...
