"Your first mission is to come back safe." Cohen Media Group has revealed an official US trailer for another Ukraine war documentary film titled Glory to the Heroes, which will be showing in very limited theaters this December. Directed by Bernard-Henri Lévy, and co-directed by Marc Roussel, this film is a follow-up "sequel" doc to their other film called Slava Ukraini, which opened in theaters in May 2023 earlier this year. That one already opened in the summer, and Bhl decided to return to Ukraine in June to continue filming more. After Russia destroyed the Kakhovka dam in southern Ukraine, he had to go back inside of Ukraine. Another haunting look at what is happening there. Lévy has brought to the world a film that, now more than ever, is a painful reminder that this war is our war and it's time for the West to urgently give Ukraine everything it needs to win.

A sleek theater from Look Dine-In Cinemas opened this weekend in NYC (or reopened at the former Landmark) on West 57th Street. With wood, windows and well-stocked bar, it’s the face of exhibition that wants to grab moviegoers and keep them.

Studio brass wowed theater owners this week with Maverick: Top Gun, Avatar: The Way of Water and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse among other tentpoles. But they were also clear at the just-wrapped CinemaCon that a reviving box office requires a wide breadth of content.
“If we narrow what we bring to theaters, our audience will get smaller,” said Jim Orr, head of domestic theatrical distribution for Universal Pictures. “We need an industry that creates and impacts culture every single weekend [with] personal stories, original ideas,” he said — a sentiment that echoed across the four-day confab in Las Vegas.
Universal, short on superheroes, got plenty of traction with Jurassic World Dominion, Minions: The Rise of Gru and Halloween Ends and films like She Said and Nope. Its specialty distributor, Focus Features, promised to win back elusive older demos with Downton Abbey: A New Era, and showcased a slate including Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris,...

Directors: Jesse Baget, Elias Benavidez, Andrés Borghi, Jay Holben, Mike Kochansky, James Kondelik, Jon Kondelik, Bryan Norton, Antonio Padovan, Ryan Patch, Marc Roussel. Cast: Landon Ackerman and April Adamson. The first All Hallow's Eve came out in 2013. The first film hosted three fearsome short films. Each revolved around a murderous clown. This second release has expanded to eight films. This time the cast and crew have greatly increased, while the wraparound has decreased in importance. This film viewer enjoyed three films more than the rest, including: "A Boy's Life," "The Last Halloween," and "Alexia." These three stood out from the others by focusing on a horrifying and sometimes surprising tone. In the line-up, "The Last Halloween" appears second. This film, completed in 2014, follows four trick-or-treaters. This short quartet are out for candy, during an apocalypse. The locals are not very receptive to their demands for sweets. But, the tables turn as this short crew.

Tagline: "Don't Answer the Door." The first All Hallow's Eve released in 2013. This first film was a horror, short film anthology. The sequel, All Hallow's Eve 2, will follow this precedent, with several more tales of terror. The film hosts at least ten directors. In this outing, The Kondelik Brothers (The Divine Tragedies) and Bryan Norton (Penny Dreadful) will helm two of the eight stories. The stories are titled: "A Boy's Life," "Alexia," "Descent," "Mr. Tricker's Treat," "M is for Masochist," "Jack Attack," "The Offering," and "The Last Halloween." And, a preview of this film's DVD launch is hosted here. The film's wraparound involves a young woman and a sinister VHS tape. The tape shows her scenes of torture and murder. Meanwhile, a pumpkin faced killer is taunting the woman, until he enters her bloody reality. Marc Roussel's "The Last Halloween" was released in late 2014. Fans can see this entire short,...

"The Last Halloween" is a fantastic, eerie award-winning horror short that follows four trick-or-treaters who are going door to door in a post-apocalyptic landscape on Halloween night. It was directed by Marc Roussel, and I really liked the tone and vibe and Halloween spirit of this film. Here's the synopsis that came along with the short:
The city is quiet; the streets, deserted. It doesn’t much feel like Halloween, and yet four young trick-or-treaters – a Ghost, a Devil, a Grim Reaper and a Witch – make their way through the night, door to door and house by house, gathering up an unlikely harvest of kindness amid the devastated wreckage of society’s collapse. In a world where the only rule is that there are no rules anymore, it is perhaps a fitting irony that it should all come down to this… a simple choice between two starkly different options.

Welcome to the third installment of my ongoing series of articles that collects great horror short films.
If you have not already done so, please check out the first two installments of this series “Watch 15 Great Horror Short Films” and its follow-up “Watch 13 More Great Horror Short Films” not only because you’ll love them but also because films and filmmakers mentioned in those articles are referenced in this one.

Qe readers may remember Canadian filmmaker Marc Roussel from his twisted time travel short film Remote (reviewed here). Well, the director has a mysterious new short film out just in time for Halloween called The Last Halloween and he's seen fit to share the whole thing with us all!
The film is based on the short comic "The Last Halloween" by Mark Thibodeau.
Synopsis:
The city is quiet; the streets, deserted. It doesn’t much feel like Halloween, and yet four young trick-or-treaters – a Ghost, a Devil, a Grim Reaper and a Witch – make their way through the night, door to door and house by house, gathering up an unlikely harvest of kindness [Continued ...]...

Just in time for Halloween, director Marc Roussel ("Remote") has just released his short film "The Last Halloween." This film recently screened at Screamfest La. Now, fans of horror can view the entire film here. In "The Last Halloween," several trick or treaters scour the neighbourhood for candy, but they might be after something else, as well. This ten minute film stars Jake Goodman, Julian Richings and Drew Davis. The film is set in a post-apocalyptic landscape. In the future, a deserted city and its residents struggle to survive. Strangely, several trick or treaters move about the small town, looking for sweets. The survivors are barely able to help. And then, these trick or treaters turn violent! "The Last Halloween" has won a few awards. Recently, this title won Best Short Film and Best Editing at the Chicago Horror Film Festival. A quality short film, film fans are encouraged to...

Halloween is my favourite time of year, and so while we don’t normally post trailers for short films (sorry but there is only so much time in a day), I couldn’t resist passing up the opportunity to promote the latest short from Canadian filmmaker Marc Roussel. According to Twitch, Roussel is putting the final buff and polish on his latest film, but so far it is looking spectacular. The film follows four young trick-or-treaters who set out on a door-to-door adventure during what seems to be a post-apocalyptic setting. Adapted from the comic by Mark Thibodeau, The Last Halloween stars Ron Basch, Emily Alatalo, Julian Richings, Angela Besharah, Brendan Heard, Drew Davis, Jake Goodman, Zoe Fraser, Kritty Uranowski, Adrian Griffiths, Alastair Forbes, and Ali Adatia. Watch the teaser below. Enjoy!

While there’s nothing better than a good horror movie theater viewing, we often forget that short films can be just as rewarding. Think about it – you can typically find them for free online, they usually show some of the best up and coming talents in the genre, and most of the time they can be even more creative and original because the filmmakers are also funding the project themselves. I’ve seen some pretty good horror shorts in my day, and I think it’s time I start sharing them with you all – no sense in being greedy!
For my first of many recommendations, I’m looking at our Canadian friends from Fatal Pictures and their tremendous little body-horror short titled Familiar. Running at about twenty-two minutes, I was able to catch Familiar at the New York City Horror Film Festival back in November, and man was I blown away.

Why Watch? A lot of strange things happen in Marc Roussel‘s short film. A guy gets an old Polaroid picture of himself in the mail, a freak snowstorm turns his television into a portal to 1978 and he strikes up a conversation with a young girl living in the past. He also finds out she’s been murdered. There’s no denying the amateur gloss here — the film is probably two more drafts and four professional actors away from being truly outstanding — but it’s also difficult to ignore both the power of the concept and the careful execution. Remote is the kind of movie that draws you in with its curiosities and then delights in getting weirder. It also toys with time travel (and horror tropes) in a way that’s bloody fun. Specifically, that common, powerless feeling that comes with playing audience to someone being killed onscreen. What will it cost? Around...

In his film The Oath of Tobruk, the French writer charts his role in persuading Sarkozy to back the Libyan revolt
As a French public intellectual Bernard-Henri Lévy is a creature perfectly unimaginable in Anglo-Saxon culture. In true Gallic style the philosopher is as famous for his luxuriant steel-grey mane, handmade black suits and crisp white shirts (invariably unbuttoned to reveal startling acreages of tanned flesh) as his prolific literary output and ferocious critiques of socialism.
In all, he is a figure many Britons find quite hard to take seriously; to tell the truth, there are even those in France who find him, despite his undoubted intellect, arrogant and pretentious.
Yet, by his own account – an account that has received no challenge – it was this philosopher who, in March 2011, persuaded the then French president Nicolas Sarkozy to recognise the leaders of the emerging Libyan opposition. And it was Sarkozy, straight...

Marc Roussel is the Canadian director behind various short films. One his latest efforts, Remote (starring: Ron Basch, Sarah Silverthorne, George Komorowski, Peter Racanelli, Julie McCarthy, Nadia Di Carlo, Chris Willis, Ruth Barrett and Don Tjart) is a horror / thriller in which a man communicates via his television set to one of the former tenants of his residency. However, as there conversation progresses, he discovers that she was murdered by a vengeful slasher and it's up to him to try and prevent what happened in the past while in the present. With Remote, Marc Roussel showed that he is capable of directing a competently acted short film with a sleek, professional look on a modest budget. Remote also showed an ability to build and craft suspense through dialogue and the actions that the characters take instead of through editing techniques or gratuitous violence. Perhaps Marc Roussel will carry over these abilities into a feature film?...

Sweet Tooth Movie PosterDirector: Marc Roussel.
Writers: Marc Roussel, Ben Wilkinson, and Mark Thibodeau.
Sweet Tooth is a horror short of five minutes from director Marc Roussel based on the writing of Roussel, Ben Wilkinson and Mark Thibodeau. This film was part of the 24 Hour Toronto Film Challenge for 2006. In this competition, filmmakers have one day to make a short film based on certain elements. The essentials for Sweet Tooth were the use of the word Legend, the prop poison and the theme or plotline of Ghost Story. All three of these subjects are incorporated in this little film, which is both darkly comedic and effective in the film's delivery of the conclusion.
