She was working as a secretary when she wrote "Looking For Mr.
Goodbar", which was published in 1975 and based on the story of a young
Catholic elementary school teacher who picked up men in singles bars
and was ultimately murdered by one of them. It became a bestseller and
was ultimately made into a critically acclaimed movie.
