One night, two struggling cartoonists had what turned out to be a billion-dollar idea. What if Frank Miller’s Daredevil had human-sized turtles in it? From that question came the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a quartet of brothers named after Renaissance artists who fought the Shredder and his Foot Clan (a spoof of perpetual Daredevil baddies the Hand). Who could have guessed that the self-published comic Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird created would launch a phenomenon, one that survived its first boom in the late ‘80s and crash in the mid-1990s? It has since gone on to become an enduring pop culture franchise which is still going strong after several decades. Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael have leaped out of the sewers and into every type of media, including video games and toys. Nonetheless, the characters are never more exciting than when they hit the big screen.

"We could've ruled the world together!" Studiocanal UK has revealed a new trailer for the 4K restoration re-release of the campy action classic Red Sonja, which originally opened in July of 1985. The movie was a follow-up to Conan the Destroyer, which was a huge success the year before, so they made another just like it. Directed by Richard Fleischer, the epic 80s fantasy action film Red Sonja has been restored in 4K Uhd with a score from the legendary Academy Award-Winning composer Ennio Morricone. Based on stories by the creator of Conan the Barbarian, Robert E. Howard and featuring new original artwork by the artist Renato Casaro (seen below). The fearless warrior Red Sonja sets out to avenge her family's murder and rid her kingdom from the tyrannical rule of evil Queen Gedren. Long before Ernie Reyes Jr., Jacob Batalon, and other Asian or Asian American entertainers were out there representing their cultures in film and television, there was George Takei. Just like his "Star Trek" co-star Nichelle Nichols did for the Black community, the Japanese actor and activist was out there being a champion for diversity and representation when those things were practically unheard of in Hollywood. And both stars were able to do this thanks to the vision of the series creator Gene Roddenberry.

Many legendary figures in the realm of entertainment have universal appeal. Basically everyone acknowledges that people like Walt Disney, Lucille Ball, Jim Henson, Mary Shelley, Stan Lee, and Whoopi Goldberg can all be considered legends in their own right. But there are plenty of inspiring individuals out there, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, that don't get recognized as often as they should. One such person is Ernie Reyes, Jr.

With barely any warning, a short fan film on the video game Uncharted, starring Nathan Fillion, debuted on YouTube yesterday.
Fillion stars as the game’s central character, Nathan Drake. The film runs for about 15 minutes and also features Stephen Lang as Sully, Micrea Monroe as Elena, Geno Segers as Diego, and Ernie Reyes Jr. as El Tigre. You can watch it below.
Though no trailer nor even a formal announcement preceded the short film’s release, The Next Web pointed out that Fillion teased it subtly on his Instagram over the past week. For instance, he posted a picture of maps and a magnifying glass with the caption “7/16/18” (the short’s release date) several days ago.
Fillion produced the Uncharted fan film with Allan Ungar, Jesse Wheeler, Bruno Marino, and Louis Sallerson, while Alex Lebovici and Steve Ponce executive produced. Wheeler and Ungar wrote the film.

"My employer is not a man you want to cross." After all the support from fans, Nathan Fillion went off and decided to star in his own live-action, unofficial short film for Uncharted. Fillion has teamed up with director Allan Ungar, producing and starring in this homemade short film about Nathan Drake trying to escape unharmed. In addition to Fillion, this stars Stephen Lang as Sully, Geno Segers as Diego, Mircea Monroe as Elena, and Ernie Reyes Jr. as El Tigre. This film plays up the humor and cockiness of Drake, along with his skills of sneakiness and hand-to-hand combat. It's considerably entertaining even though it's very simply put together, which is probably why this work so well. It's all about the character. Watch below. Thanks to Twitter for the tip. Nathan Fillion Tweeted out his thanks to Allan Ungar for “letting us all scratch this itch” he also thanked the fans in the same post and the attachment on that tweet was for a 15-minute short film he made with Ungar titled - Uncharted.
Needless to say I about lost my mind when I saw this posting and dove right on in. For years fans of the game have been asking for a movie based on the Uncharted series and the only person we wanted to see play Nathan Drake was Nathan Fillion. Well at long last he’s done a short film written and directed by allan ungar (Gridlocked) and it is freakin fantastic. Let’s stop all this babbling and get to the film, shall we?
I was starting to think that Fillion would be too old now to play the character, but after watching this I am 100% wrong.

While I'd argue I have a fairly deep knowledge of '80s films, having survived the era the first time through, it seems I somehow missed "The Last Dragon," directed by Michael Schultz. Schultz works non-stop in television these days, and I'd wager that most of the people watching his episodes of "Arrow" or "Hart of Dixie" or "Black-ish" or "Chuck" or "The Mysteries Of Laura" have no idea this is the same guy who made movies like "Car Wash," "Cooley High," "Greased Lightning," "Bustin' Loose," or "Scavenger Hunt." He was one of the few directors to work with Richard Pryor repeatedly, which automatically makes him somewhat of a superhero. It's always strange when you watch a movie for the first time removed completely from the context in which it premiered, especially one that provokes such an enthusiastic cult response from so many people when you mention it. A mere...

Here's a trailer for an awesome-looking martial arts fantasy film called Ninja Apocalypse. The movie was directed by Lloyd Lee Barnett, who has worked on the visual effects for films such as Avatar, Speed Racer, and Spider-Man. Judging from the trailer it looks like there will be some fun humor mixed in with some crazy cool action sequences involving martial arts mixed with magical powers. It looks like it will be a really entertaining, action-packed flick! The movie has a Mortal Kombat kind of feel to it, but it also has zombies! I was invited along to Legoland as part of their bank holiday Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles weekend back in August by Nickelodeon (the show is expected to return to Nick in November). Initially confused by the ridiculous number of short people (many of whom were dressed as Ninja Turtles) surrounding me, I soon became aware that the place was being overrun by a swarm of sherbert-huffing hyperactive children.
Obviously, I was livid. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is for my generation. I tried to explain to them that they were ruining my childhood, but they were so busy enjoying theirs that they hardly paid me any notice, no matter how furiously I screamed. The Legoland staff was similarly disinterested in my distress, but they were practically children themselves.

With Platinum Dunes’ updating of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set to start filming this April, it’s not too soon for people to start making a case for their involvement with the project. Enter Ernie Reyes Jr. Reyes, who served as Donatello’s stunt double in the first Turtles film and played Keno in the sequel, would love the opportunity to serve as the new film’s action choreographer. To make his case, he’s posted a video on Vimeo showcasing the “the angle and velocity that Ernie wants to bring to the Ninja Turtles comeback film.” If this is an adequate representation of what Reyes Jr. has in mind for the finished film, we say hire him now. Sure, the clip features lots of footage from classic action films Reyes Jr. didn’t work on...

If they could effectively pull this off it could be extremely badass. If you've seen The Raid then you know how fast, furious and bone-breakingly brutal this style of fighting can be.
I'd love to see the Ninja Turtles brutally kicking ass like we've never seen them do before, it'd be amazing. I've been very skeptical of this movie since Michael Bay said that the Turtles would be alien, but the awesomeness of this fighting style sparks my interest. What do you think about this kind of martial arts being used in the movie?

Our look back at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies continues with The Secret Of The Ooze, a sequel that raises the budget, and introduces Vanilla Ice…
As an ambitious young writer, I actually wrote an outline for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II. Unfortunately, it was never developed into a full script as I was unable to get it to anyone at the studio before Secret Of The Ooze was in production. I suspect that my difficulties in getting my outline read were due to a lack of Hollywood connections, something I attribute entirely to the fact that I was seven.
Truth be told, it may be for the best that my work stayed unseen by the rest of the world, as I wrote the outline before I’d had a chance to see the first film, starting my version where I assumed it left off – with Shredder helping Krang...

Dwayne Johnson's career is an enigma. It's been mentioned before, most eloquently in Agent Bedhead's career assessment, but he's got all of the tools to be a Hollywood superstar. He's handsome, built like a Greek god, funny, self-effacing, and a pretty decent actor with a natural combination of physical strength and solid comedic timing. He also starred in The Tooth Fairy and The Game Plan, two brutally unfunny films. Go figure. 2003's The Rundown was meant to be Johnson's second big film (the first being the terrible The Scorpion King), and should have firmly established him as the leader of the next generation of action superstars. Instead, it didn't make its money back, and he's inexplicably settled into a series of roles in drab comedies and uninspired family-friendly PG fare.
Which is a shame, because The Rundown is an absolute blast. It's big, dumb, goofy fun, some of the...

Oh hell yes! Early this morning I was sent an email from a reader with a link to an article at a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles blog called GoGreenMachine.org. The post includes details about an open casting call in Hollywood for martial arts experts to audition for "the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, hitting theatres in 2011. We will select the best from the auditions to be a part of the stealth Tmnt nemesis, the Foot Clan." Wait, what, the notorious Foot Clan is coming back for that upcoming live-action movie!? As a big Tmnt geek, this is just plain awesome to hear! Too bad I'm not a martial arts expert. The casting call is asking for anyone 14 years or older (they're going young) to prepare a 30-second martial arts demo. "Judges to include actor and martial arts expert Ernie Reyes, Jr (aka Keno from Tmnt II), Jason Morgan...
