’There is no point in releasing 25 movies a year. We need to be selective,’ says Belga’s Patrick Vandenbosch.
Patrick Vandenbosch, chief executive of leading Benelux distributor Belga, has outlined the company’s new strategy following its acquisition this week of Marc Punt’s Amsterdam-based distributor Independent Films.
Belga previously had a 50/50 partnership with Independent and released its films in the Netherlands through the company, while Independent’s films were released in Belgium through Belga. Now, Belga has taken over the Dutch outfit entirely.

Director Mark Punt delivers something a little bit different from Belgium with his brand new Bowling Balls: A slapstick biker action comedy. With Belgium an increasingly major player on the international arthouse circuit it's certainly not the sort of thing international audiences may expect to see from the nation but Punt - one of the heads of an overtly commercial film distributor in the region, they handle the Twilight and Hunger Games films, among others - approaches his own directing work with a decidedly more audience focused orientation than most, financing his pictures almost entirely outside of the government backed support systems. The result? Something that wouldn't look out of place in the Farrelly Brothers catalog.Check out the trailer below!...
