2016 was a tough one.
It’s not like nothing good happened this year (especially if you’re a Cubs fan), but after twelve months of tough times, heartbreaking losses, and a bitterly contested election, many of us are facing down the new year feeling a little drained.
But, while it may not have been easy on the soul, the year was actually pretty great for music.

It would be impossible to list all the songs that lifted us up, and helped us get through the year, so we’ll just do 16.
Here are some of the songs that saved 2016. (Warning: Nsfw lyrics in some of the songs).

Mariah Carey released "Music Box" on Aug. 31, 1993. The singer's third studio album, it was met with mixed reviews. Entertainment Weekly said the melodies sounded a "tad familiar," while Rolling Stone criticized the lyrics for being "made up entirely of pop and soul clichés." The New York Times awarded "Box" a favorable review, saying it has "an even sharper focus than Ms. Carey's previous two best-selling albums."
"Music Box" debuted at No. 2 and remained among Billboard's Top 10 albums for 31 weeks.
It was the first time Carey worked with Babyface. The producer was brought on to make "Music Box" sound more like pop than Carey's previous albums had. Her first two releases, 1990's "Mariah Carey" and 1991's "Emotions," took heavy cues from R&B and gospel music.

"Dreamlover" was the lead single, becoming Carey's biggest hit to date. It remained No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for eight weeks.

More than a dozen musicians, singers, TV personalities and actors came together to re-record Chaka Khan's 'Super Life' in memory of murdered teen, Trayvon Martin. Now that's a cause worth singing about! Celebrities Chaka Khan, Eric Benet, X Factor finalist Stacy Francis, Kelly Price, Kenny Latimore, Terry Crews, Angela Bassett and more joined forces on March 25 at Hollywood's Henson recording studios to re-recorded "Super Life," while thousands of marchers took to the streets in support of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed 17-year-old boy shot to death by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida. The song's lyrics, from Chaka's 2007 album Funk This, are eerily similar to Trayvon's tragic story. "A mama's cryin' 'Cause another young man has gone and died / He's not some statistic / He's another awesome destiny denied." "We take it all so lightly / How did we get so 'climatized / On the 9 o'clock news nightly / Genocide of babies / I can't believe my eyes.

How did you get involved with Uncf's "An Evening with the Stars"?
It came about through a series of conversations, managers and people getting to know what's important to clients and day-to-day business. And I was asked to be a part of it and I said yes, because it's important. Not only am I a father, but it's so important for kids to be educated.

Could Whitney Houston have predicted her own death?
Just days before the songstress was found dead in her hotel room on Feb. 11, friends said Houston said she "wanted to see Jesus" and "felt her time was coming," TMZ reports.
In addition, Houston was reportedly discussing Bible passages, including Matthew: 3:16 and Matthew 3:17, which read:
As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.
Houston began her career by singing gospel music with her mother, Cissy Houston, at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J.
Church members mourned her death on Feb. 12 by praying for her family.
Gospel singer Marvin Winans will deliver the eulogy at Houston's funeral on Feb.

What a difference a couple days can make. Ryan Seacrest was able to talk to Whitney Houston's close friend Kelly Price on the red carpet before tonight's big awards show, and as Seacrest held her hand, the Grammy nominee fought back tears as she remembered the last moments spent with Houston and how Price heard the devastating news of Houston's death. On Thursday night, Houston joined Price on stage during the latter's pre-Grammy concert. Kelly Price was the last person to perform with Whitney Houston, who died Saturday (Feb. 11) -- a little more than 24 hours before the Grammy Awards ceremony -- and she's a total trooper for facing the red carpet at Sunday night's event.
She got lucky when she was paired up with E! host Ryan Seacrest for an interview.
"Singing with Whitney to me has always been just an honor," Price tells Seacrest. "She was the premiere artist to me. She was amazing. In my heart I was praying it was an Internet hoax and to explain it."
Price then talked about where she was when she found out about Houston's death.
"I was at the Grammy gift suite and it just got real weird," says Price. "My manager took me to my car and told me what happened. We were supposed to meet up at Clive Davis' party last night.

Amber Riley has a memory of Whitney Houston she will never forget, as the Glee star told us moments go outside the Staples Center before tonight's Grammy Awards. She met the late singer for the first time just this past Thursday: "I didn't need her to take a picture with me," Riley told me, describing the encounter at a Kelly Price event in Los Angeles. "I didn't need an autograph. The fact that she even acknowledged that I was standing there was enough for me." Riley actually performs "I Will Always Love You" on Glee this Tuesday. (The show was taped last month and may now turn into a Houston tribute.) She's also performed "I Look to You" on the hit musical...
